Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Announce: piCorePlayer 8.0.0

2021-12-10 Thread jasc

Thank you all for the replies - they gave me the confidence to go for
it, but not before backing up the whole card, of course. ;)

I performed an 8.0.0 > 8.1.0 Insitu update on my 3 partition setup and
am happy to report that it worked without a hitch.

It appears that all my pCP settings survived, as did the partition
scheme, as did the LMS data on partition 3.

The screenshot below showing the partitions is from after the update to
8.1.0, and you can see that Labels, LBA Start, LBA End, Size are
identical to before the update (see my previous post).

Thanks as always for this stellar piece of software!

Best regards,
jasc

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Announce: piCorePlayer 8.0.0

2021-12-09 Thread jasc

I am running pCP 8.0.0 and am considering an Insitu update to 8.1.0.

My setup has 3 partitions - Boot, Root, Data (for LMS data), see below

The Insitu update warning reads:

- Assume an insitu update will overwrite ALL the data on your SD
  card.
- Any user modified or added files may be lost or overwritten.

Q: Will the Insitu update just overwrite the Boot, Root partitions and
leave the Data partition intact? Or will it literally overwrite the
whole card and revert back to the standard Boot, Root partition scheme?

Many thanks,

Thank you again, Ronnie.

I will give it a go, as per the above, but will have to find the time.

For the record, I got a response from Audiophonics themselves, who had
this to say, referring to insufficient / irregular Python support in
pCP:

Hello out there,

Does anyone have the original 2016 Audiophonics RaspDAC with

- Sabre V3 ES9023
- Power Button
- Winstar OLED 16x2 Display

fully working with pCP 7.0.0, Power Button and Display functionality?

If yes, any help to get it up and running (particularly Power Button and
Display) would be greatly appreciated. I am hoping for the Jackpot in
form of a downloadable image, but realize that is far fetched... so,
happy to dive in with any pointers on required packages, scripts, etc.

Thanks and best,

Hi,

On pCP Main Page > pCP Updates > Patch Update

-Patch pCP current version extensions
This will check for updated pcp extensions and update if needed.
pCP Version will remain unchanged-

Is there a place one can look to see if patches are available, and if so
what they fix, add or update? (i.e. a changelog to view without actually
invoking the function)

My pCP info:

- piCorePlayer v6.1.0
- www v0009
- linux 4.19.122-pcpCore_v8
- piCore v10.3pCP
- Squeezelite v1.9.6-1206-pCP

Thanks and best,

Thanks for the clarification Paul, you are right: Upon re-examination,
this power supply connected directly to the iSabre DAC which in turn
then passed on power to the RPi.

For the record, I am currently using an iFi iPower 5V PSU with the RPi 4
and will then stick with that. I admit I'm somewhat susceptible to the
"audiophile" snake-oil as regards wall-wart power supply noise and its
purported effects on sound quality - which surely exist - but everyone's
mileage may vary depending upon their particular situation...

In 2017, I bought the following power supply for an RPi 3 + iSabre DAC
audio project - can anyone tell me if it can be used with the RPi 4 /
8GB without bricking it? (of course with the required USB C adapter):

AUDIOPHONICS Linear Regulated Power Supply EMI RFI Filter 6V 3.5A 25VA

Specifically, I am uncertain if the *6V 3.5A 25VA* will do any damage to
the RPi 4.

This is the setting I now have to achieve the behavior you are
describing: LMS does not automatically check for updates on its own,
only when manually triggered by the "Check for updates now" CTA - and if
it finds a newer build, will automatically download it, thereby enabling
pCP's admin console update function. It seems worth it to mention in the
"more >" tooltip that auto downloads must be enabled in LMS itself for
this function to work.

Going forward, I will check here for any available updates
http://downloads.slimdevices.com/nightly/index.php?ver=8.0,read the Git
Commit Log to see if there is something in it for me, and if so, update
via the above process.

On a related note, can anyone say if the update packages
logitechmediaserver-8.0.0--noCPAN.tgz accumulate over time, if
yes in what directory, or are they removed after installation?

Thanks and best,
jasc

Hello,

I am trying to update my LMS 8.0.0 Nightly via the LMS tab > "Nightly
Update" button, and receive the following message despite an update
being available since today:

-No Update Found
No Update file was found, Please check LMS Server configuration.-

LMS Settings:

Advanced > Software Updates
Don't check for software updates
Do not automatically download updates

Installed:

Logitech Media Server Version: 8.0.0 - 1594451286 (July 11
2020)

Available:

logitechmediaserver-8.0.0-1595835082-noCPAN.tgz (July 27
2020)

Manually checking within LMS itself successfully reports the new Nightly
build.

I have intentionally deactivated the update settings in LMS to have
manual control over the process, ideally via the pCP interface.

Am I missing something?

Many thanks,
jasc
