Thank you all for the replies - they gave me the confidence to go for it, but not before backing up the whole card, of course. ;)
I performed an 8.0.0 > 8.1.0 Insitu update on my 3 partition setup and am happy to report that it worked without a hitch. It appears that all my pCP settings survived, as did the partition scheme, as did the LMS data on partition 3. The screenshot below showing the partitions is from after the update to 8.1.0, and you can see that Labels, LBA Start, LBA End, Size are identical to before the update (see my previous post).
