AFAIK there aren't/never have been any Slim Devices/Logitech public
keys for their Debian-style downloads.

It may be paranoid, but this is one reason I'm running Squeezebox
Server sequestered inside a separate VM.

I use kubuntu rather than ubuntu, but I use synaptic as an update
manager.

perhaps the application that ubuntu uses is an ubuntu update manager.
try starting synaptic rather than the ubuntu update manager.

Only a guess...

There haven't been any SBS updates since then! As soon as there are,
you'll have to install them via the terminal.

It also means that you have to untick it on the Update Manager each
time you have a security update, until you bother to install the new
SBS. Since I run the nightly SBS, it's a real pain!

I have also installed Ubuntu 10.10 fresh and have had no problems to
install Squeezebox Server 7.5.3 (ppa: http://debian.slimdevices.com

The only thing I could imagine is that you forgot to install the Mysql

2011-02-03 Thread TomS

no, i did a fresh install of 10.10, added the package details to
sources.list file. 7.5.2 installed fine, 7.5.3 (my first upgrade under
10.10) won't install via gui. I can't find anywhere in the options of
the gui to allow it to proceed, there is just no choice in the msgbox
that comes up saying it won't install.

think you just need to re add the package details into the software
sources section.

i think i just added this line and then it worked again

deb http://debian.slimdevices.com stable main

it is removed when you upgrade to 10.10 from what i remember.

That appears only to work if the key is stored with Ubuntu. I just have
to update the old fashioned way, which is a real pain. The usual crap

That must be recent with Ubuntu, maybe starting with 10.10, because for
years I used to get the same prompt confirming installation of an
unsigned package. I'm on Debian now and it still does the prompt to
allow installation.

in the update manager gui (at least at 10.10), it doesn't ask, it just
tells you it's not going to update it and doesn't let you say "go

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Upgrading to SB 7.5.3 on Ubuntu Lucid (10.10)

2011-01-28 Thread tedfroop

This has been going on for ages. Its because Squeezebox server (and
Squeezecenter and Slimserver before that) are not part of the official
Linux release program and have never been.

Because of this there is no key for the deb package to check to say its
ok to allow this to run as root to install. So it asks you if you
really want to do this.

I have been answering yes to this question ever since I went to linux
back in the SlimServer days.

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Upgrading to SB 7.5.3 on Ubuntu Lucid (10.10)

2011-01-24 Thread TomS

I hit the same problem and so I did a "sudo apt-get upgrade" from a
terminal window, and it prompted me as to whether I wanted to install
the untrusted squeezeboxserver, to which I said yes.

Seems to have worked okay, although it's not an answer as to how to
work around the problem using update manager.

[SlimDevices: Unix] Upgrading to SB 7.5.3 on Ubuntu Lucid (10.10)

2011-01-24 Thread cjbrooker

I#m having problem upgrading Squeezebox Server since I upgraded from
Ubuntu 10.04 to 10.10 a few weeks ago.

The update is listed in the Update Manager but when I click on 'Install
Update' and enter my sudo password I get an error related to
permissions:

Code:

Requires installation of untrusted packages

The action would require the installation of packages from unauthenticated
sources.

  Details
  squeezeboxserver

Is there an authentication key I need to add to the trusted software
providers?
