google translator access via livecode
I am seeking a widget or live script code to translate a single word or at most 256 chrs text from within a stack. I think there is or was Google api livecode could use to talk with the Google translator server via scripting. My ideal use: while moving the cursor over and clicking text the mousetext can be sent to Google and return the translation. Anyone have a sample stack to share? IDE: Accessibility
Nice touch for header/footer allowing size options for readability, thank you! open letter to Kevin, I am prepared to write up a list of Accessibility improvements; but to be honest, I need to know if they will get address within 2 months not 2 or more years later. This is not about just me, but other disabled users of LC. Or anyone who is willing to help make accessibility pull requests and do them, please contact me offlist. Much will be low level OS and at engine level; some will be at scripting level within the IDE. [ANN] Release 8.0.0
Really, wow….the guide….r Using many screenshots of the old dictionary within the new dictionary/guide! Using a screenshot of an ancient marketing model: Revolution 3.0 for the forums! There is no toc to navigate the guide, sometime pretty basic for a guide. Is the screenshots current for the current Revonline? IDE screenshots in the guide still use an older version of LC! OS themes screenshots in guide is way off too! Wait, drawers and sheets have been removed long ago in Mac OS so why in the guide?? Stack decorations, OMG, showing a ten yr old screenshot!! The list goes on and on…. I am at lost for words….or better not say anything to get flamed or get elegantly get chewed on ;-) Kevin, this is the best guide to give in the box — for those who paid 1k or newbies ?? Colin, thank you. I was under the impression I would be able to build personal apps. I see so many messages here how tricky it is to make a iOS app; hence your book will be very helpful. I am looking for is a check list of whats needed to be in place before I start using LC for iOS. I am just confirming missing dictionary info by reading the release notes. I paste in the keywords and nothing comes up. Hello all What is required from Apple, and its cost, to make an iOS app for my own personal use using the community version; how stable is the community version to make an iOS app? Things that make you go Hmmmmm
I rather deal with a software company who is open and direct about their bugs and bug database. For me, feature set is just one reason to get the software, the other is timeliness and thoroughness on handling reported bugs stated publicly and certainly privately too! The classic 'trade secret' argument is too much CYA and often just BS. And the sad cliché 'testing is drain on the budget' is just plain ignorant about how valuable testing is. If someone is going to pay/invest good money and time into a software tool, then they have the right to know well its being maintained. One of the interesting things is how much a company is willing to invest in QA. Stability is a lasting impression that sometimes takes years to repair! I do hope with the huge donations, QA for LC gets what it needs -- now. Just checking on a few bugs of mine...
Anyone else ran into these older bugs of mine: 1. create a huge 3 dim array via a script with lots of data to show, like in the thousands click variable tab --watch how IDE struggles to show the hierarchy via the arrows..eventually, IDE will hang 2. have a folder of 260,000 files set defaultfolder to that folder use files() to get info on each file -- note, rev eventually locks up and fails to respond, and you cant cmd-. out ether, have to force exit Thanks. ___ use-livecode mailing list use-livecode@lists.runrev.com Please visit this url to subscribe, unsubscribe and manage your subscription preferences: http://lists.runrev.com/mailman/listinfo/use-livecode
Re: iOS Control Instantiation problem
I agree fully with you Graham. Its what has been holding me back for doing work with ios. I admire and thank those who can wrestle with the docs and ins/outs of Apple stuff dealing with ios. Here is an idea, provide free (many year agreement) copies of LC mobile to a school/classroom that develops lots of example stacks/docs to help others master developing on mobile lc. It would be a win-win for all. On Apr 10, 2012, at 9:37 AM, Graham Samuel livf...@mac.com wrote: Thanks Chris, very helpful. I have not yet found out how to filter the Console output so that I only see my own 'put' lines, but give me time... IMNSHO the mother ship makes working with iOS unnecessarily difficult by not explaining things like this more clearly. There are a lot of not fully explained things in the iOS release notes - to take a small instance, I had to experiment to work out that iphoneControlGet is a function, not a substitute for the 'get' command. It's a tiny point, but it makes getting familiar with a new environment just that bit more difficult. A much worse one is the description of the use of the scroller control, where they virtually give up explaining it in words and hand you over to an example. This is tough, because the concept is a very unfamiliar one - that the scroller is not a container but a kind of mask or overlay through which you see and control an underlying LC control. I am still struggling with this, especially as it apparently involves the 'unboundedScroll' concept, which itself is very badly explained in the docs, and indeed includes another undocumented concept, the 'clamping' of a scroll. This concept applies to a group, but not to a scrolling list, which is a mystery in itself. By copying the example as closely as possible, I have got something to work, which is not the same as saying I understand it fully. Really none of the three available documents (Release Notes, User Guide, Dictionary) are much use here. Thank goodness for this list and the generosity of people on it. Why him does not use a natural language for programming?
In late 70s, Alan Kay, the spiritual father of the Mac os, Smalltalk, was wrestling with a very powerful and important and yet simple question, How to make a programming language simple enough a child could use but grow in power as the child's intellectual powers grew too? Simula, Smalltalk and later Hypercard tried to come up with ways to address that question. Supporting english-like was key and various ways to perform the same statement function/command was needed too. Btw, Wolfram/Alpha is moving rapidly to provide both vast content and a very powerful natural language way of getting answers and solutions. When, not if, Mathematica supports a much more richer GUI for making interactive standalone apps, you will see another incarnation of HyperCard. Wolfram's CDF file format is a step in that direction. Check out Mathematica Home Edition (300, as apposed to 3,000), with its strange, crazy legal limitations of using it, may in a few years produce apps for mobile and desktop platforms; may finally left those crazy limitations too. ;-) And a footnote, I understand from a few friends who knows well HC early history, Wolfram looked closely into perhaps making Mma, during its early years, language more like HyperTalk and wanting to support Hypercard in some way. Oh and I would love someone to make an external for LC to talk with MathLink, please. Btw, Runrev, if there are coat tails to ride, supporting W/A might be one to consider. ;-) just a few cents... Importing 295 png images...help
Greetings... I have 295 24 bit rgb color png 72 dpi at 1900 x 2200 pixels...It seems LC dies after the 115th image is imported. I have tried both 4.6.4/5.0, both die. I can import roughly 100 images per card, but when I reference as icons for transparent btns all the images, LC still dies. I am stumped. So, great graphic wizards...how can I import all these images? The goal is layering the images to recreate an artistic page and hiding/showing each layer for study how the art was made.
