Yeah, I'm afraid you're right. I don't see any way set set a property on a
range of characters
in a native input control. If the app doesn't strictly need copy/paste you
could probably use a
LC field instead.

Re: Progressive Web App (PWA)

2020-02-16 Thread Ingar Roggen via use-livecode
Hi, Paul, thanks for the answer - and questions.
I hope that it is possible to design webpages with functionalities specially
adapted to screens of mobiles, so that they can be used easily with mobiles
without writing (and downloading?) special apps for the purpose. And that there
are some examples at hand. Therefore my S.O.S.

Wiipedia defines a PWA as:
"A progressive web application is a type of application software delivered
through the web, built using common web technologies including HTML, CSS and
JavaScript. It is intended to work on any platform that uses a
standards-compliant browser."

So, you when you speak of a PWA written in LiveCode, you are either talking
about using LiveCode server to generate HTML5, CSS3 and Javascript that forms
some application?

OR

You are talking about using the HTML build option for LiveCode standalones. For
this latter, there have been a bunch of samples posted to this list in the past.

Should I forget HC? Honestly?

2019-01-25 Thread Ingar Roggen via use-livecode
Hi, all of you!
Twice I have asked through this list for help to get an idea about how much it
would cost «to make HC great again», that is, to facilitate its use by means of
an LC-app. I may not succeed in getting a Norwegian sponsor, but again I might.
But certainly not without an approximate suggestion of the price. My email at
the University of Oslo is ingar.rog...@sosiologi.uio.no. Why not give it a try?

Yes, and I will reiterate that Hypercard was optimized to use cards as records
in a database. Livecode is not. If your apps are of this nature, you will want
to move the data in your cards to some other storage method, then have one card
per "form" in your stack, loading the data as needed.

It isn't difficult. open file for a low level file, then repeat with i = 1 to
the number of cards of stack writing the pertinent data to a
tab or comma delimited file, or a database if you have gotten that far with the
database API.

"That can't be done" wins always, because the only limit for LC is the sky
(more exactly, sadly, the sky below the 65535-limit for all coordinates).

But there's a lot of features that are not done with LC's bitmap objects.
Even in a comparison with the paint features of HC some are missing (which
of course can be done, because the limit ...).

2018-12-01 Thread Ingar Roggen via use-livecode
I recognize the importance of asking adequate questions. I don’t know if the
one about MacPaint (MP) belongs to that group. But I use MP all the time with
SheepShaver and believe that the partial scriptability of MP perhaps was HC’s
greatest contribution to interactive use of words and images in thinking. It’s
a question of coordinating logic and imagination. Ingar

wonder if it has become easier to port HC-stacks to LiveCode? Do you know if
there are any apps for that? And if not, would it be difficult to write them?

Re: LC & Java

2018-05-30 Thread Ingar Roggen via use-livecode
The eminent historical fact is that HyperCard (still) is psycologically (and
intellectually) magical, while RunTime, and also LiveCode, it seems, attempt to
reduce all of it to technicalities. And although we live by technicalities,
