Me too, to be honest. We know all how success can be relying on 15% of good-sad
tech and 85% of proactive commercial and marketing choices... Alike for most of
us, the RunRev culture is mostly engineering oriented while business incomes

It's not at all the rule of LC-Server to handle HTML, CSS, JS, AJAX for us, nor
PHP or Java does. See the usefull Ralf Bitter's RevIgniter solution for this
(or any of the great JQuery, Mootools, etc... options), if needed. LC-Server is
a professional grade server-side engine, no less, no more...

LC-Server is a mostly amazing great server-side solution "as is". It's, in my
experience, lots most advanced than JBoss, Tomcat or PHP5, in main cases.

It's the sole server-side solution providing us a way to replace the UML / OOP
/ MVC approach with a procedural / functional way to design and code great
"n-tier" solutions "à la LISP". This is the key point witch can push the
LC-Server to become one of the most important server-side solution over the
decade. Why ? Because, in my mind / experience at least, modern "n-tier" apps
need to rely, in about their main architecture, on a "IA + modularity"
paradigm" :

- Instead of "UML / OOP / MVC", i prefer, for my own, think about "data, rules,
inference engine" for the core kernel controller and "semantic data-driven
modularity" for the Business logic modules of my "n-tier" applications. I
designed a global methodology, one year ago, to integrate those concepts in an
adapted way to get the most power we can output from LC-Server. This paper need
to be expanded and revisited and is, unfortunaly, still not available as an
english translated version. You can get its french issue there :
<http://www.sahores-conseil.com/lbpso.pdf> . If some one is interested to work
with me to provide an english translation, thanks to drop me a line off-list ;-)

- LC-server is, along the less usable IBM Rexx, the sole n-tier development
environment letting us design and code, at once, Saas and Web apps build on top
of a "flow algorithm" plan basis, where all the dismemberment of the complexity
of the business logic, the presentation logic and the data processing logic can
be perfectly modeled and represented at once.

- LC server is the sole n-tier development environment letting us code
solutions where the business logic and the presentation logic can be
dynamically build and updated all along the live cycle of the n-tier
application in using a client-side editor and semantic commands our customers
can understand and use them self to update their apps instead of having to ask
again to the computer's guys (ISV or engineering companies) to update the app
by etching in stone the expected change from an update of the app's
specifications rules.

LC-server is a revolutionary way to code a new kind of n-tier apps. After Perl,
after PHP, after Java, etc..., LC-Server puts in the hand of the "n-tier" apps
software development engineering amazing new ways to go and i just hope that
this incredible opportunity will be seen as it merits by enough developers to
provide to the market the needed visibility and let us promote LC-Server a "the
way to go" in the mind of small and big customers.

We just need some more "out of the box" options support :

- HTTPS
- DB updated drivers for PostgreSQL 8.4.3 and above, Oracle
- irev / stacks encryption
- ability to deploy the server elsewhere : on the Linux, BSD and Solaris
platforms, instead of only, for yet, on the RHE Linux / CentOS platforms

and in about product line communication :

- a strategy for effective and proactive press relations from RunRev about its
very undervalued LC-server product
- an real ambitious marketing plan for the LC-Server technology

to get the final solution seen as it can / have to be seen by the market, even
against the big operators of the "n-tier market offer" whose prefer, for yet,
the way to act by etching in stone the expected changes from an update of the
app's specifications rules, giving them the yoke of the largest passive
dependency, the greatest possible own ignorance to keep their customers in the
role of victimized payers as long as they can pay for sad unproductive
development time and low-level work.

About an active example of web applications generator saas build on top of
LC-Server, fill free to visit www.widestep.fr

Along the DiskWarrior disk recovery tool always at hand if needed..., i use the

Lion ?... I did't install its DPs and i suspect i will wait for the final

Hi Mark,

Chrome, is in the last weeks tests i did since Java applets are now supported
on both OS X and Win platforms, more stable than Safari, faster and more
ergonomic than Firefox. Would be useful (and if yes, urgent !) to get the

Andre,

As long as i don't use LC Desktop under Linux, i can't be helpful on this. On
the other hand, if you expect to run the revServer too, i can confirm that it
runs perfectly well under both RHEL and CentOS and, again, perfectly well under
both of the 32 and 64 bits versions of those distributions (CentOS 5.6 is my
current working conf.). You just need to take care to set the SELinux security
demon prefs to "alerts only".

Re: [revServer] should revdelete work

2011-05-04 Thread Pierre Sahores
Yes, if really needed but about the unability of "delete folder" and/or
revdeletefolder, to work against non empty folders, does this need to be seen
as a bug or as a feature ? My vote would go to the second purposal...

Best,

Hi Josep,

Frederic Rinaldi use to translate the Rev 1.1 or 2.0 version of the Runrev

Matthias,

I don't use the revdeletefolder command and can't comment on it but :

delete file (thepath)
delete folder (thepath)

instead, from within my irev libs and it works fine (as long as, in case of
file, the file to delete is not the running irev script it self !).

Re: [NASTY BUG] many commands are maked on the docs as working on RevServer but they do not

2011-04-23 Thread Pierre Sahores
Andre and all,

AFAIK, revServer is, for yet, a great but, still very, very difficult to
market, server-side engine.

Two things would really help us to help RunRev to promote it :

1.- to see the current revserver cgi-engine be marketed as the final GM1
realize of a BSD2 licensed LC cgi way to code "n-tier" apps.
2.- to see the final revserver application's server engine get out of the
RunRev's factory AS SOON AS POSSIBLE as the final GM1 realize as the commercial
version of the LC way to code "n-tier" apps in using password protected stack's
libraries.

Option 1 would greatly help us to defend LC as a credible alternative to Java
and PHP in the open-source community and more (universities, our customers,...).
Option 2 would greatly help us to protect, in a clean and elegant way, our
developments in high-concurency and commercial business environments.

I know how hard the team is always working and giving it's best to protect its
developer's basis interests. I'm not sure, it's always aware that its leak of a
clear visibility and/or strategy about the revserver product commercialization
and support timeline is really the best response some of us can rely on, after
two years of long waiting for the next to come revserver news. I really hope
that announcements and clarifications are planed for the San Jose conference.

Other subject still focused to revServer development : one of the best books i
found around to learn how to integrate revServer and JQuery can be found there :

https://github.com/rmurphey/jqfundamentals

Have a nice time, San Jose's traveller's :

Kind regards,

Pierre

Did you have an eye on SELinux, the security demon witch make our linux servers
very secure in a complementary way the firewalls are working ? Works perfectly
on RHEL and CenrOS and should on Debian 6 too (right testing revserver+postgres
install on it).

CentOS 5.6 works perfectly fine in about revserver+postgresql web driven apps
:-)

On the other hand, i could't run such revserver+postgresql web driven apps
under OpenSuse 11.3 + PG 8.4.7 nor OpenSuse 11.4 + PG 9.0.3 for yet. Did you
went more successfully than me on this ?

Bonne soirée, :D

Did anyone there got the right way to solve this inconstancy and, else, what is
the last PostgreSQL supported version revserver-revdb are known to be able to
run friendly with ?

I expect it was the 2.1.2 version. The 2.1.2 version is, at least, the last one
to work properly under Solaris.

revserver conf for opensuse 10.4 in 3 lines !

2011-03-26 Thread Pierre Sahores
Hi All,

opensuse 10.4 64 bits is a perfect platform for revserver !

To setup revserver against apache2,

1.- we just have to modify or add three lines to
/etc/apache2/edefault-server.conf :

Options Indexes Includes ExecCGI MultiView
AddHandler irev-script .irev
Action irev-script /cgi-bin/revserver

2.- put the revserver engine and its three dependancies directories in the
/srv/www/htdocs/cgi-bin/ directory

3.- set the permissions of the revserver engine to 755

4.- use ldd under bash as root to test the revserver libs dependancies and
install the missing ones (via Yast2) if needed

5.- stick an index.irev test file in the /srv/www/htdocs/ directory ()

and that's all ;-)

Kind Regards,

We can just follow you at 100% on those major points, Richard.

Please RunRev, don't avoid to add the password protected stack's support to
RevServer as soon as possible. Apple is less and less reliable while the web is
more and more ! We need RunRev and RevServer to become as strong as possible on
the web apps networkable markets. Yet would be lots more useful than in one or
two years.

Thanks for caring, MotherShip :-)

At this point, the MacApp Store US $ 99 subscription i signed up some weeks ago
seems just unusable. My plan was to make the widestep.fr saas client editor (LC
app) available for free on the Store with the possibility for the users to
subscribe directly from the www.widestep.fr (ecwid powered) store to optional
services.

I will see if this is still doable in using the Intel AppUp and / or Google
Stores and report how it goes if success is possible in those ways.

Is Apple a trustable company from a developer's point of view at this point ?
Probably not if we just remind what happened over the last 12 months.

Are you sure that the order by + limit clauses used together can't suit exactly
your needs ?

It's a SQL syntax task, not a revDB one and as soon as the query will be OK,

Hello Andre :D

But they should indeed !!!

Instead of making any .irev stuff rely on the non secure FTP protocol, i just
hate because that, the libURL let us play in a very fine way with $_POST_RAW
and it works perfectly well there as a replacement for any kind of FTP targeted
code.

Re: ssh on-rev.com

2011-01-17 Thread Pierre Sahores
Andre and Folks,

I used the same way but, frankly, it was no far from unusable...

On the other hand, i prefer to see the mothership use this policy to avoid
possible sad holes in the on-rev servers security.

But, i would really like to see the same mothership close all our unsecure FTP
accesses and replace them by a FTP-SSL + password + PKEY or SFTP + password +
PKEY accounts access policy.

In between, to control the integrity of my on-rev account files on a daily
basis and along other irev+MD5 dir scan scripts, i make a backup each night and
scan then it from my dev box at home, in using ClamXav to be sure of the full
integrity of my files. (As tested against real corrupted data set i own and use
to choose and update antivirus tools, ClamXav is realy an usefull way to go on
both the windows and os x platforms...)

All the best,

Pierre

pick-up the Store -> Disconnect menu item before quitting.

Re: extract by delimiter

2010-12-28 Thread Pierre Sahores
Tom,

Did you try to open your RSS feed source in using TextWrangler (free) and test
what can be seen in picking the "show tab stops" and "show invisibles" items
from the "text options" menu item ? There is certainly something used as an
(invisible?) delimiter by the RSS readers...

Re: What with all it's features and platforms I sometimes forget

2010-12-27 Thread Pierre Sahores
Geoff,

I really like the way you describe things and follow you on this at 100%. About
the second part of your post, i would like to precise that, because its
semantic consistent syntax, LC let always us reduce the complexity of our code
to its best level (best readability, best execution speed, less errors). I
always mind about LC as the best Turing's machine ever after the original one
and it's not a joke. The chink in the armor is obviously the sole fact that if
the ideas are not clear, the developer will soon be blocked on the spot if
(s)he use C, C + +, PHP, Java, etc... while LC will let (s)he turnaround the
pot longer before (s)he finish to see clearly (or not) in its own ideas.

Kind Regards,

Pierre

Re: "Faces" App error

2010-12-27 Thread Pierre Sahores
Hi Nicolas,

This message is not from LC but from the backend db you use as the result of
your query. It means that you try to use the same value to index 2 different
table records and this is forbidden as expected. As soon a you will replace the
duplicate indexed value by one different value per indexable column, your db
will become able to replace the error message by the values you expected to get
back.

Andre, Giuseppe,

Andre is right, is't ? In this case, LiveCode just push us to do anything we
need at the speed of tough ;-)

Here are some charts out of a PostgreSQL backend as directly requested and
displayed by a LiveCode RIA standalone client in using only standard build-in
commands (no server-side coding, no reports an charts are external
packages even if using them is always best in ROI terms) :

In fact, there are, at least, some dozens of important enterprise-grade
solutions build on top of LiveCode+MySQL, LiveCode+PostgreSQL and
LiveCode+Oracle at work all over the world. But, because, those solutions are
RIA/Web/Web services systems used by middle to world class companies for
internal needs (not available at all to the public internet), it's difficult to
communicate about such project (strong NDA clauses are always bind to such
business contracts). In between some other LC colleagues present on this list,
i worked for years on such projects (LC+PostgreSQL under Linux, LC+Oracle 9i to
10g under Solaris) with great satisfaction and success, even before the
availability of the LiveCode server.

If your question is : is it way to build in a clean and full reliable way a
RIA/Web enterprise-grade solution (ERP-CRM class) in using :

LC RIA clients standalones
and/or Web 1.0, 2.0, HTML5/CSS3 browsable workfows

+

a server-sidde "n-tier" back-end where LiveCode server+ your.irev scripting
will replace all the tasks you could implement in using PHP, Tomcat or JBoss

the response is definitively yes. About LC+PostgreSQL, i always prefer it over
the LC+Oracle alternative each time the customer don't impose a Oracle
preference. As you probably know, the PostgreSQL ACID compliance is in practice
always lots more suitable than the Oracle's one... Don't hesitate to ask for
more off-list if that can help.

Best Regards,

Pierre

Re: [OT] Re: Ucranian spam

2010-12-02 Thread Pierre Sahores
Initially, we arrive with a body, mind and soul ... Over time, some ones see
their soul decline up to extinction and make way for the throes of vanity. Do
they know what slavery only they are entering in. Is it so hard to stay a man,
a woman ? Probably not as long as each search and enriches the miracle that
makes each and each other of us unique and kindly with those who stay
themselves.

To the end, as long as creativity stay the key, ethology stay human sided...

I did't test PG 9.01 against RevServer for yet. I can just confirm after 14
months of regular use that PG 8.1.22 and the on-rev revServer are working
exactly as expected without any known restriction, at least for all my own
on-rev hosted n-tier apps.

Thomas,

If you are on loki, just fill 74.54.153.70 in your son's GoDaddy DNS panel.

Here is a example witch works perfect there :

1.- on my planet-work.com account management panel :

Zone : widestep.fr
DNS1 : ns1.planet-work.com
DNS2 : ns2.planet-work.com

DNS records :

www A 74.54.153.70
*   A   74.54.153.70

2.- in my loki cpanel account :

Companion domain
widestep.fr

Re: How do you programmatically create an empty database?

2010-11-24 Thread Pierre Sahores
Hello Ruslan and All,

GPL nor Creative Commons License did't never means "Free for any use" !
BSD2 and MIT licenses means - most of the time - "Free for any use" !

I would't never like to rely, in about work (time, invests, returns,...) on
randomized (un)secure business models ;-S

More seriously and, get please, my sincere apologies as i would really prefer
to play around this in my vernacular mother's tongue ;-)

Each time i need to include thirst tools components in commercial solutions, i
try to stay as careful as possible...
Do my customer need (or want to rely on...) a commercial licensed (O)RDBMS :
Oracle, Sybase, Progress, Valentina,... ?
Do my customer accept to trust me if i purpose a BSD2, MIT or reasonable
commercial priced (O)RDBMS as a trustable way to get his app reliable in any
needs ?

I know mainly well PostgreSQL and most of my n-tier LiveCode powered solutions
relies on it with full confidence for over the 12 last years but ...

... i would't like at all to pass away from Valentina server if it can help me
- in any way - to conceptualize solutions (mainly centered on AI+n-tier
automated workflows) that i never minded about in using PostgreSQL, as long as
SQL is full suitable but not exactly dedicated to handle AI oriented datas
structures) !!

So, is there any existing resumes, detailed documents, etc... that compare
PostgreSQL and Valentina server (full commercial version) and where each of
those tools can provide us special advantages ? If yes, i would be really
interested in learning about this ?

Many thanks,

Pierre
