Excellent...

I think I can confirm we are back up and running.

Normal business may resume, we apologise for the outage.

We have also applied the update that is alleged to fix the problem which was
causing certain users to bounce mail, thus unsubscribing other users for "too
many bounces"... otherwise known as the DMARC Problem, an explanation may be
seen here:

Subject: Testing apps

Just a thought thats been brewing and brought to the front of my mind with
the recent iPhone launch and the 'apps failing to launch' issues thats
affected some apps.

Whilst its impossible for us all individually to own and test on every make
and model of device, it might be good if we could set up a test group as im
sure between us we must have most makes and models of iPhones, iPads and
Android devices.

Its possible with apps for iOS to generate up to 50 free promo codes in
iTunes Connect for each version of each app, im not sure how it works for
Android but I would imagine something similar must exist.

If this were ever to become a reality, maybe some form of site or list
could be put into place where people happy to test could post a list of
devices they can test on so developers could contact them and if agreed
could send over the promo codes etc, or the other way round where people
could post apps and have device owners contact them.

Just throwing it out there!

Andy

Jacque,

If you need to test for a customer you might take a look at
https://wonderproxy.com/. I have used it in the past to get basic proxy
support up and running in my products. You can sign up for a month of
service, test various proxies, and then be done until you need to test

Nakia,

Hmm, the other issue could be authentication. LiveCode isn't going to have
authentication callbacks installed by default libURL may just be failing
when the proxy server asks for authentication. If the authentication is
BASIC or DIGEST then a person can write their own callbacks prompting the
user for a username/password. If the authentication type is NTLM then it is
a little more complex.

I just did a quick test with WonderProxy and see this in the libURL log:

--
_proxyForURL_proxyForURL use _proxyFromHTTPProxy() with HTTPProxyProxy for
URL: http://baltimore.wonderproxy.com:80
socket selected: 199.15.252.141:80|6924
GET http://www.google.com:80/ HTTP/1.1
Host: www.google.com
User-Agent: LiveCode (MacOS)

HTTP/1.1 407 Proxy Authentication Required
Server: squid/3.4.4
Mime-Version: 1.0
Date: Thu, 08 May 2014 13:01:36 GMT
Content-Type: text/html
Content-Length: 3318
X-Squid-Error: ERR_CACHE_ACCESS_DENIED 0
Proxy-Authenticate: Basic realm="WonderProxy"
X-Cache: MISS from baltimore.wonderproxy.com
Via: 1.1 baltimore.wonderproxy.com (squid/3.4.4)
Connection: keep-alive
--

So the authentication part fails.

Can you turn on logging for lib URL and see if you can figure anything out
from the diagnostics? Just create a stack with a field and tell libURL to
log to it:

libURLSetLogField the long id of field 1 of stack "Untitled 1"

Do you see any authentication headers?

the proxy server asks for authentication. If the authentication is BASIC or
DIGEST then a person can write their own callbacks prompting the user for a
username/password. If the authentication type is NTLM then it is a little more
complex.

I just did a quick test with WonderProxy and see this in the libURL log:

--
_proxyForURL_proxyForURL use _proxyFromHTTPProxy() with HTTPProxyProxy for
URL: http://baltimore.wonderproxy.com:80
socket selected: 199.15.252.141:80|6924

Proxy-Authenticate: Basic realm="WonderProxy"
X-Cache: MISS from baltimore.wonderproxy.com
Via: 1.1 baltimore.wonderproxy.com (squid/3.4.4)

So the authentication part fails.

Can you turn on logging for lib URL and see if you can figure anything out from
the diagnostics? Just create a stack with a field and tell libURL to log to it:

libURLSetLogField the long id of field 1 of stack "Untitled 1"

Do you see any authentication headers?

It doesn't look like LiveCode is finding your proxy server. Ahh, I just
looked at the revLibURL code in 6.6.2 rc-2 and realized it doesn't have the
new proxy detection code in it. Only 6.7 dp-3 does. Anyway you can download
and test 6.7 dp-3?

Hi All,

LiveCode could open a socket to send and receive

Does exists a method to create a portable

In one of my computers, every application
that opens a socket must be authorized

Notice that I run many versions of

I launch LiveCode from their own

Re: Testing iOS apps on attached device

2017-09-16 Thread Mike Kerner via use-livecode
you've got a provisioning profile issue, so the install is failing
silently. It's documented in bug report xx. To figure out what the
heck is going on, do the install using xcode and you'll get the error
message. After you have the PP issue resolved, testing directly on the
device will work.

Re: Testing iOS apps on attached device

Hi Mike,

Thanks for the reply, and I certainly have had that problem often enough - but
not this time. I can build a standalone, and use Xcode to install it on the
phone; and it works. So I don't have a provisioning profile issue in this case.

There's some other reason why it isn't installing when I use Test, although
Xcode has no problem doing it.

Any other ideas?

Many thanks,

Ben

working to direct deploy to an attached iOS device?

Many thanks,

Ben

Hi Jacque,

Thanks for helping.

Check to be sure that the profile in standalone settings is the same one
that XCode is using.

How would that work? Surely the profile is backed into the app when the
Standalone Builder builds the standalone? (I'm not building the app with
Xcode, just using it to install the app that LC built on to my phone.) Does
Xcode have a separate profile to install a app - if so where would I find that?

many thanks,

Ben

"baked" into the app, not "backed"!

Re: Testing iOS apps on attached device

2017-09-18 Thread panagiotis merakos via use-livecode
Hi Ben,

If you can successfully install the standalone using Xode (by dragging it
onto the "Applications" field of your device), but you cannot do the same
using the "Test" button, then this is probably a bug in mergDeploy (which
is used by the "Test" button.

So I suggest you file a report.

However, I use the "Test" button for testing on iOS devices before each
release, and it works as expected for me. If it doesn't work for me, then
installing using Xcode fails too, but using Xcode gives a (usually)
informative error msg (which is usually related to provisioning profiles,
as Mike noted)

Best,
Panos

You're right, the profile is embedded in the app. I was just wondering if
Xcode was doing some extra manipulation. Probably not, but you might check
to be sure there are no expired profiles in keychain.

RE: Testing Bandwidth with new TSNet Functions

2017-11-15 Thread Ralph DiMola via use-livecode
Sannyasin,

This is what I'm going to try to deal with the moving in/out of services
issues. I have not done this yet but will try in the next week or 2.

1) Talk to my web service and see if there is a reasonably fast connection.
2) If so then use asynchronous TSNet to download data in the background with a
callback.
3) Set a timer to keep checking the latency of the web service every second or
so until the data transfer is complete.
4) Cancel the timer in the callback when TSNet completes.
5) If at any time during the TSNet transfer the ping to the server is too slow
then cancel the transfer and notify the user the data connection is either too
slow or nonexistent at this time.

That's all I got

Subject: Testing Bandwidth with new TSNet Functions

Someone suggested we could test bandwidth by getting the milliseconds before
calling a ping.txt file on our server (contains one word "true") and then check
the milliseconds after getting the result and we might use this to determine if
the bandwidth was sufficient for streaming content from the web server.

Some very, very big "million dollar" apps are surprisingly "brutal" about this…
Spotify, for example, even if I am on 3G and able to get a web page on Safari
in my iPhone 7… will simply throw up It's broken connection icon (pretty ugly,
whole screen display) and not even bother to "say anything" to the user.

FlipBoard, the "super access to all the publications in some large universe"
simply fails on startup if you are offline when you boot, they don't even give
the user the courtesy of a notification that they are off line. OK well I take
that back.. not at least they tell you to turn off airplane mode… but if on
super low 3G the app just becomes non-functional stopping cold on the splash
screen, again, not even bothering to tell the user anything.

Our SivaSiva app has a mix of content resident in the app and content we call
dynamically, so I need a more robust/gracefulway to deal with users walking
from 4 bars strong LTE at the coffee shop to 1 blip 3G connection as they walk
down the street to the bus, and then back up with 5bars Wi-Fi at home or office.

Currently my ping-the-server method is to see if I can get the ping file, but
fetching a ping.txt with only 4 chars data, tends to work, even in low
bandwidth situations, this "fools" the app into thinking it has a connection,
but if they try to then look at a video in the browser widget from YouTube, or
load an image heavy page (our blog) or call some painting/artwork into an image
object… the browser widget just "goes white" -- (a bug IMHO), because I
can/do put up a loading gif on the card, but the browser widget takes over and
"hangs on blank" waiting for the GET connection go pull enough data to start
rendering and I have no way to tell the user their bandwidth is too low. So
this just make the app look like it failed or is "super slow."

That's the back story: I know TS Net has some functions along these lines,
before I dive in from ground zero and flail around this issue, can anyone share
what they are using/doing to deal with variable bandwidth? What is working for
you and a few snippets would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Testing Bandwidth with new TSNet Functions

2017-11-16 Thread Charles Warwick via use-livecode
Have a look in the dictionary at the tsNetSetTimeouts command.

In particular, the last two parameters allow you to define a minimum transfer
speed so that if a transfer falls below that speed, tsNet will abort the
connection.

For example, if you issue the following command:

tsNetSetTimeouts 30, 0, 30, 6, 30, 1

Then tsNet will abort any connection that is transferring at a rate slower than
1 bytes per 30 seconds.

Cheers,

Charles

Hi Richard,

yes, it is still mandatory to have the UDIDs. You have add those to your dev
account.

Btw.: A nice tool for submitting iOS Apps to the test devices is Airlaunch from
Jacqueline Landman Gay.
A nice review of that tool can be found here

I am using it with dropbox to publish the files to the test devices.
