Steve, try an "on tabKey" handler. It can be placed in field script
or if it makes better sense, at some other scripting level. The
handler can use "word 2 of the selectedField" to identify which field
the cursor is in, then "select text of " to advance
to the next field. Or, if the shiftKey is down, retreat to the
preceding field.

Re: MySQL localhost

2002-04-26 Thread Gustavo Chirinos

Thanks for the info.
I downloaded the demo, but can't suceed in executing the SQL commands. I
typed the database type (MySQL), host, database, user and password, and
when pressing button "New Connection" get the following dialog message:
"revdberr, restricted under current license". And I can't see any field
or space where to type the SQL commands.

Reading through the online help I understand is necesary to install a
MySQL library access. Is that true even for OS X? I haven't installed it
yet, because it talks about putting files in the Extension folder... No
such thing exist in OS X.

Thanks in advance.

Very easy. The host to pass to revdb_connect would be localhost. You can
find database examples at
http://www.runrev.com/revolution/developers/developerdownloads/usercontri
butions.html

In particular you'll be interested in the software database demo..which
works with all databases. You'll find a text file with the SQL you would
need to create the necessary tables for the example. You may also want to
check out the scripts to the database manager which can be found under
the tools menu.

Using VAPP.

http://www.paradigmasoft.com/product/vapp.html

You can define the fields either in VAPP, or using SQL (create table).

The next version of RevDB will add a revdb_valentina command which will
allow you to call through to VXCMD functions (hey you need to license it
anyway so why make you choose), and revdb_DBRefToConnection and
revdb_CursorRefToCursor..enabling Rev users to be able to use the same
syntax across all database but be able to use Valentina (VXCMD) specific
functions if they need to (like creating a database).

Barry,

You can use DB access in Rev locally - the demonstration stack I created to
show off Rev's DB capabilities accesses a local MS Access database. You can
view/download it at:

It's the "Revolution vs. VB" comparison.

My job is to convert Photoshop Documents to Web Pages, and one thing we
definately did was choose a screen resolution that we felt would be the
minimum for web pages. All of the pages that I code are developed to look
fine on an 800X600 Resolution monitor. I also try to write the pages so
they will look good on any sized monitor or bigger.

You have to consider is your audience. If your looking to make some sort of
educational multimedia project, then you might want to consider targeting
the older computers. Yes, they're very outdated, but a lot of schools are
still using Macintosh Centris 650's (I know this for a fact). For that type
of audience it might be good idea to use 640X480.

Now if your going some other route, like something that requires a lot out
of the user, then you might just assume that the user is going to have a
relatively good setup, and will be able to handle 1024X768.

It all depends on what your target audience is.

RE: Card Size

2002-04-26 Thread Yates, Glen

Well, I think it all depends on your specific application requirements,
target audience, etc.

On our last major project (2 years ago) we used 800x600, but suffered some
compromises in graphics quality i.e. we had to shrink some graphics down,
show only portions of a screen, etc. (It's a training application, so we
show screen shots from another app).

Now, this year we've moved up to 1024x768, and are much more happy with the
resulting look. And, with the popularity of 17" monitors, I expect we'll
stay at this resolution for some time.

Also, don't be stupid about screen sizes, always test your screen resolution
before displaying a card that may be bigger than it. Some apps, such as the
installer mentioned below, should be able to test the screen resolution, and
intelligently adjust itself to fit.

Just my 2 cents.

That's what I'd expect. Locking messages would lock out all the events
in the native queue (what you called the "GUI" events, which is as good
a description as any,) while still allowing a script's custom "sent"
events to go through. I should have clarified my original post better.

arrays

2002-04-26 Thread Steve Messimer

Hi,

I'm having a bit of trouble with arrays. I'm obviously doing something
wrong here.

I want to check whether or not a set of flds contain any data. So I have
created an array named answerCk and I have loaded the following fld names
into their respective keys.

  put "AFld" into answerCk[1]
  put "BFld" into answerCk[2]
  put "CFld" into answerCk[3]
  put "DFld" into answerCk[4]
  put "EFld" into answerCk[5]

Now I want to check each fld to see if it is empty [ this is th part that
doesn't work!]

repeat with i = 1 to the number of keys in answerCk
if fld answerCk[i] is empty then
answer warning "Field" && answerCk[i] && "must contain an answer.
Please type an answer and try again." with "OK"
  focus on fld answerCk[i]
  exit to top
else
end if
  end repeat

Thanks

setting htmltext makes field appear disabled

2002-04-26 Thread Martin Baxter

I just set the htmltext of a standard scrolling field for the first time
since I upgraded to the latest v111. When I do so the field takes the
appearance of a disabled field. The backcolor becomes light grey and black
text becomes a dark grey.
As soon as I click in the field to edit, and give it focus, the field
resumes the normal appearance of an editable field, ie the backcolor turns
white and the black text becomes black again.
I'm using release 1.1.1 on macOS

I can work around this but:

does this happen to other people?

we decided to have 1024*768 as our min. system-requirement.

We are living in 2002 !
You can buy 2 Ghz CPU's and a 23" monitor (if the money is available ;-),
so one really has to draw a line somewhere.

And if someone's idea of "multimedia" is a 486 (or Mac LC etc...) with
32 MB RAM and maybe a 8 bit, 14" monitor, well, ehmm, sorry ma'am...

5 years ago we de3cided to make 800*600 our min. sys-req.

But the times they are a changing, and so must standards/sys-req.

Compatibility is a fine thing.
But only to a certain degree !!!

C'mon, the "slowest" pc ypu can get nowadays starts at 800 Mhz...

Even if we might loose some customers, we decided to make this strict
sys-req.

BUT if you are developing mostly for schools etc... you really might
have to support
smaller screen-sizes, since schools do not have the most up-to-date
hardware,
if at all...

it depends on the amount of data you will have to handle.

If the number of records is about up to 5000, then you could even use
the "card"-metaphore
in RR as a database -> 1 card = 1 record.

Could even work with 1 records, you should do some testing here

Otherwise you will need some sort of "database-engine" in the background.

We are using VALENTINA for some time now and i can say: Valentina

It is FAST (did i emphasize FAST ?), fast, fast, reliable and fast.

And of course fast ;-). Yes fast...
