Hi Richard, Sorry for the delayed reply. If you call cgiemail as a URL the same way a form does when using the GET method, you can use get url http://www.domain.com/cgi-bin/cgiemail.cgi?lotsofparameters=lotsofvariables Just make sure the internet library is available. Also, you might want to check the post entry in the docs. You should be able to call the cgi using a url to the server Rev CGI is running on. Surely, you could also use one of the SMTP libraries to send out e- mail directly. I did this, but noticed that the way this works depends on the server configuration, which one doesn't always have control of. Re: beta testing 2.9
Mailings were sent last week. We do have problems with bounces and people not getting them sometimes. When we hear about those difficulties, we re-send the beta info via another route. I've sent out another batch of beta notices this morning -- there were about 20 new beta testers signed up over the weekend. I also re-sent to all the bounces we got from last week's mailing. If you still haven't received your announcement for Beta 11 please let us know. The beta version doesn't not have a set scriptLimit, but it does expire roughly 60 days after release. Also, for those of you who are in the beta program already, you know that the download URLs follow a fairly predictable pattern, and the unlock code you've received doesn't change. Hi, I would like a clear, detailed statement from Rev explaining who does and doesn't get 2.9 as a free upgrade/update, and how is any 2.9.x updates understood as free or paid for too. For example, if one has any 2.7.x, 2.8.x versions does one get 2.9.0, but any 2.9.x updates will be a required to paid. For example, if one gets 2.9.0 but 2 months later, a 2.9.2 goes out, and you have not paid to renew your 2.7.x, 2.8.x, you wont be able to install that 2.9.2 version; so its free for only during that 2 months period. Re: RevCGI Hosts?
Mark, yes, sendmail can be called from a cgi with a simple shell() call. You can use RocketsSendmail library to make it even easier. This allows you to customize the email and code your own solution. For example in our Hinduism Today Digital Edition (http://www.hinduismtoday.com/digital ) we use RocketsSendmail to send a verification email to the newly created accounts, upon following a link on those emails, the account is verified, this is a common pattern used by many web applications which can't be easily reproduced with cgiemail. RocketsSendmail has only one function, that function is analogous to RevMail but uses sendmail or mail (depending on the platform) to send the email. With Sendmail you're in control, you have the freedom to assemble the emails anyway you want and even do processing on them first. With cgiemail all you can do is forward forms... cgiemail may be easier to forward forms, but that will just get you more trouble in the long run for you're pushing your workflow to deal with the form later. with sendmail you can do work earlier in the workflow and send more meaningful emails. my two brazilian real cents which are worth near nothing but are the prettiest money in the world (Except for old maltese liri which were gorgeous) Andre On 2/25/08, Mark Schonewille [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: I don't drink beer, so you can have it :-p Just a question, do you think that sendmail easier than cgiemail? DP 4 for Linux: Aaaarrrggg!
Oh dear guys, I am sure it is wonderful in other ways, BUT BUT BUT! It still does not do multiple desktops right. Or at all, really. First thing I tried. It has the little icon in the top left, that works fine and moves your windows to another desktop, whichever you want, but then, as soon as you use one of them, back all the windows fly into one desktop again. Just like it always has. This really matters. What it means is, I have at the moment 6 empty desktops, and I cannot even put the dictionary on one of them. All my 7 Rev windows have to clutter up one desktop while the others are empty. No other Linux app behaves like this. All others, you put whichever window you like on whichever desktop you like and then use them. For instance, OO. I usually have the dictionary open on one desktop and the spreadsheet open on another, when I'm doing spreadsheets. At the very least I would like to do the same with Rev. I know this is peculiar right now to the Linux desktops - but all of them have pagers like this, Gnome, KDE, Xfce, Fluxbox. Whatever people think about this in HIG terms, its the way Linux people work. So its got to be supported. I think Apple will supports it in Leopard. So it it is going to have to be done sooner or later. Or hey, tell me I am idiotically missing some simple way to make it work. I'll be overjoyed! autosave / enter as save? 2.9B
There was a very useful thing in hypercard. If you used the enter key while editing a script the script would save. Likewise, if you closed a script dialog, the script would automatically save any changes. I understand other users might not want either of those features but I really want them. Is there an option for autosaving of scripts on close -- I don't want to be asked each and every time I close a script window whether I want to apply the changes. Likewise, crtl+return or the enter key (where it exists, my laptop has no enter key) would be really nice for saving the script or saving the script and closing the script window. Is my question clear? Also, when I select a button from the pallette witht he button tool I cannot then draw a button on the screen. Though, if I double click the button icon a button appears. The ability to click a button icon and then drag the mouse on the card to draw the button would be really nice. http://lexflex.com free full text online law reviews, cases legislation Be a better friend, newshound, and know-it-all with Yahoo! Re: concerning 2.9 as free
Heather has posted this information in the forums. I'll do the same here: You get Rev 2.9 for free if: - You had an active update pack/license on 1 February 2006 - You purchased any version of Revolution 2.7.x - You bought a RevSelect Holiday bundle - You have an active license pack valid on the date of 2.9's release The free updates do not affect any other aspect of licensing. Your license is not extended another three months or year, for example. You are just getting the new version. Example 1: Bill has a Studio 2.6.1 license that expired Feb 5, 2006. He has not purchased any new versions since then. He gets Rev 2.9 for free, but otherwise his license is still inactive. He'll have to renew the license for any future versions. Example 2: Charles bought Revolution 2.7.3 and 2.8.1 and the RevSelect Holiday Bundle. His license is current through December 2008. He'll receive Rev 2.9 as part of his update pack license, as well as any versions released the rest of this year. We have not announced what versions will follow 2.9, but you're correct that if you don't have an update pack, these will not be free upgrades. (A good reason to get your licks in on the final beta.) For example, if one has any 2.7.x, 2.8.x versions does one get 2.9.0, but any 2.9.x updates will be a required to paid. For example, if one gets 2.9.0 but 2 months later, a 2.9.2 goes out, and you have not paid to renew your 2.7.x, 2.8.x, you wont be able to install that 2.9.2 version; so its free for only during that 2 months period. Re: RunRev for iPhone and iPod Touch
In this case, I've been putting the ID column off to the right and tabbing it off the display. I have a lot of tables with far more columns than they show, for example, a 16 column table with 4 columns showing. This makes it easy, when the user clicks on one row, to show item detail, just replace tab with cr and you have all desired properties for display in a separate field. Although of course a better table object would be a huge help to folks like me, check out the functionality of these grids: http://extjs.com/deploy/dev/examples/grid/edit-grid.html http://extjs.com/deploy/dev/examples/grid/grouping.html On Feb 22, 2008, at 5:27 PM, Richard Gaskin wrote: Suppose you want to display records from a database in a multi- column list field. Re: no defaultstack
Recently, rand valentine wrote: I'm using Rev 2.8.1 Studio, MacBook Pro, 4gb memory, Leopard, and now Revolution does not recognize the card or stack that I'm in when I execute a script. So every field reference must be specified for the card it's on and the stack it's in, i.e., one can't just designate: fld whichField rather it must be fld whichField of cd whichCard of stack whichStack I've been playing with setting the defaultstack to the toplevel stack, but that doesn't seem to help. Any way to fix this? Thanks. One thing you might try/consider... If you're referencing objects across multiple stacks, or just running into general object reference issues, try to avoid manually building object references, and use the object's long id. In my experience, I've found the engine can get confused (or even start generating gibberish) if you reference objects using a description that you build yourself (ie fld whichField of cd whichCard of stack whichStack). In my case, the situations were very complex and difficult to reproduce -- once I started using long id references, the script errors I was getting went away. Sometimes Rev marketing can be upsetting to recent purchasers. For example, I paid the full price for Rev, but at the time that you could send a second copy to someone. I used that as a way to send a copy to myself at work, so I would be registered ok if I used Rev on my own machine or on my work machine. The second copy still hasn't reached me at work, so when does the initial three months of upgrades start counting? Is it when I paid for the product, or is it when I receive it? The more annoying marketing thing was that right after I had bought it with that deal, a new deal came out (the Christmas bundle one), which would have been much more valuable and interesting to me. On Feb 25, 2008, at 11:10 AM, Eric A. Engle wrote: There was a very useful thing in hypercard. If you used the enter key while editing a script the script would save. This should work in Rev also. (Referring to the Enter key adjacent to the numeric keypad, not the return key, which is often labeled enter.) enter in script editor - Applies the script enter + enter - Applies and closes script editor Command/control + S in script editor - Applies script and saves the stack. Likewise, if you closed a script dialog, the script would automatically save any changes. I understand other users might not want either of those features but I really want them. Is there an option for autosaving of scripts on close -- I don't want to be asked each and every time I close a script window whether I want to apply the changes. I just developed the enter + enter habit. Likewise, crtl+return or the enter key (where it exists, my laptop has no enter key) would be really nice for saving the script or saving the script and closing the script window. Looks like you answered your own question on this one. Also, when I select a button from the pallette witht he button tool I cannot then draw a button on the screen. Though, if I double click the button icon a button appears. The ability to click a button icon and then drag the mouse on the card to draw the button would be really nice. Somewhere between v. 2.2 and 2.5 the tools palette behavior changed from a modal-ish, choose tool - click and drag, to drag tool from palette to card then resize new control. It took some getting used to the change, but I like it better now. Hope I'm understanding your questions properly. Reliable Cursor Changes?
Hello List: I'm wondering if anyone has come up with a reliable way to do rollover cursor changes in Rev. I'm trying to clean up a client's multimedia stack who has lock cursor handlers all over the place, and I'm wondering if there's a simpler way to define which objects trigger cursor changes on rollover (mouseEnter/mouseLeave). Most of the controls are buttons, but there are a few images, fields and what-not. I've been playing with mouseMove and trying to set the default cursor based on custom user properties, but so far am not having success. Thanks for any suggestions. I have only just started using multiple desktops when Leopard introduced them, so I am not yet terribly familiar with them, but in Spaces, there is a facility to lock a certain application to a specific desktop. Would it be possible that Rev has somehow got locked to a single desktop in your Linux system? Re: Anyone interested in learning more about Rev on Rockets?
Great, Thanks for all the interest. I'm currently trying to finish RocketsEditor, which when complete will create a much easier workflow for anyone working with Rev CGI's from within Rev. It has the following features: - Work with either local or server files and folders, allowing users an easy way to navigate 'projects' - Edit all types of files, including rev.cgi files using a tabbed script editor. - Colorizes and correctly indents (formats) rev cgi's and compiles them BEFORE uploading, so if there's a script error, it will highlight the line where the error is. - Will automatically download, edit and upload stack files as well. - Can correctly permission files on remote servers - Can create new / delete / copy / and edit files on local and remote servers - Can add or delete folders on local/remote servers. - Can upload files to remote servers - Full project settings in a pull down list..you only need one-click to access your remote or local files - Settings for which files to be edited by extension type. The reason for local support is for working directly with RevOnRockets using Andre's RocketServer. Hope to have this ready this week. Then I'll put together a basic tute for it and ROR. -Chipp ___ use-revolution mailing list use-revolution@lists.runrev.com Please visit this url to subscribe, unsubscribe and manage your subscription preferences: http://lists.runrev.com/mailman/listinfo/use-revolution

Re: Reliable Cursor Changes?
Hi Scott, I just tried this in a new stack... seems to work. I put 3 objects on the stack: Label Field, Field, and a button. For each object, I created a Custom Property: RollOverCursor and gave the values: 1,2, and no value, respectively for each object. For each object, I put the following script into them: on mouseEnter switch (the RollOverCursor of me) case 1 set cursor to 76 break case 2 set cursor to hand break default reset cursors end switch lock cursor end mouseEnter on mouseLeave unlock cursor end mouseLeave When placing each object on the stack, make sure there is enough space in between them for the engine to reset the cursor, else the cursor won't reset to the default. I like this concept, and will put it into my own applications, thanx Scott. :) If you need me to put this stack on RevOnline, please reply. I did the two for one deal on the last day it was available I think, and the other offer arrived right after that. Offers are a good thing, back to back offers aren't as good. My overall goal was to have Rev, so that when people ask me how to do things in it (which happens), I have it to try out suggestions. I don't currently have any real work need for it, and so the two for one and Christmas deals both achieve what I wanted, hence not be so bothered that I would demand the later deal. I do also like to support worthy products, so I'm not complaining about the money I've spent. DP 4 for Linux: Aaaarrrggg!
Andre, you say well, it works on my EEE PC with multiple workspaces, I can carry rev to workspace 1 to 4 with no problem... Yes, of course. So can I. But that is not what is meant by working with no problem. Can you put the different windows on different workspaces, in the way Sarah describes, and work on them? Can you, for instance, put the script editor and the application browser on one desktop, the dictionary on a different desktop, and your app you are designing on a third, and have them all stay where you put them and work in the different windows as you choose, by flipping from one desktop to another? I cannot. They all move instantly back to the same desktop the moment I use anything. I'll have to do some research on locking. Maybe there are hacks. But at the moment, it does not work like I expect it to - like OO works for instance, where the dictionary equivalent can be moved to a different desktop and just stay there while you work on your spreadsheet. Which, thankfully, I do less and less these days...
