Richmond,

Thanks for your feedback.
I tried on the 3 platforms:

- Mac OS : no lag
- Windows : no lag
- Ubuntu : lag

Then I create two stacks. In the first stack I added this script

on moveStack
set the topleft of stack myStack2 to the topright of this stack
end moveStack

By moving the first stack I got a lag-time (and a small bug in the
location of the second stack).

In a more general use, the Linux version seems to be less reactive,
but I'm in a VM

The code of the revTools palette could be changed in further version,
so I prefer to keep my code outside it.
Plus, the lag-time seems not linked to the way I use but to the
LiveCode interaction with Linux, so reside directly in the code of the
revTools palette should be not helpful here, I think

Thanks for your suggestion anyway.

Bring window to front on desktop

2010-11-14 Thread FlexibleLearning
Anyone solved how to bring a stack window to the top on the desktop after a
file dragDrop?

1. drop files
2. bring stack window to top on desktop (ie. in front of the OS source drag
window)
3. show a modal answer dlog
4. carry on

What happens is that the source OS window can obscure the modal answer dlog
so it looks as if the program has hung. Actually there is a window waiting
to be clicked!

Tried these before showing the modal:
- Focus on/ go/ etc do not change the overall window layering.
- Set the style to modeless, but the window runs through its openstack
routine even with 'lock messages', and is still not layered on top anyway.
- Temporarily setting the systemWindow of the stack to true works, but it
then obscures the modal so user is locked out.

I have looked in the archives for a Mac/Win solution and didn't find
anything, except that others have had a problem also.

MSWord does it, so it must be do-able (perhaps an external would be needed
for LiveCode?).

One approach I might take would be to check the suspended property and
wait until the user brings the stack to the front before activating the
modal dialog. I think HIG says you shouldn't reorder windows for the
user, but I'd need to go read up on that.

You need to use your conversion function to change the dates to mm/dd/yy
format. Then use the convert command to convert that to the long date,
and lift out the first item which will be the weekday name.

Going crazy with dgText

2010-11-14 Thread Éric Miclo
Hello,

I've a little script that populates a dataGrid with a tab delimited text
(titles are located in the first line).
In the IDE everything works fine but once the application is built the dataGrid
is always empty.
I've tried everything I could think of but didn't get it.

Here is the script (located in the preOpenStack handler of a one card stack):

if the cParamétrageDesItems of this stack is not empty then
set the dgData of group Paramétrage items to empty
dispatch ResetList to group Paramétrage items
put the cParamétrageDesItems of this stack into itemListWithTitle
set the dgText [true] of group Paramétrage items to itemListWithTitle
dispatch ResetList to group Paramétrage items
set the cParamétrageDesItems of this stack to empty
  end if

If someone has an idea why it doesn't work once built I'd be very happy.

Thanks , best regards,

ÉrIC Miclo

Hi Éric,

Assuming the cParamétrageDesItems property is not empty and the
datagrid library is included:

1) First, try to remove the lines - dispatch ResetList to group
Paramétrage items
The resetList command is useful if you have to reset a dg after a
change in a template. The refresh of the data is took in care when you
set new datas with the dgText or dgData properties.
However in some case, when the indexes are not properly set, reset the
datagrid with a resetList could result of an empty dg.
If the indexes are empty, the problem could be the preOpenControl of
the datagrid was not executed.
You can check the indexes by using the dgIndexes property of a datagrid.

2) Try to populate the dg with the pFirstLineContainsHeaders parameter
set to false. When set to true the data will be mapped by matching the
names of the column in the datagrid and the first line of the data.
If by setting the pFirstLineContainsHeaders to false, you get data,
this could be a problem in the columns names.

Hi,

Thanks for you advices, but I've tried different solutions including the one
you've just proposed (and tried them again just now) and nothing is working
once the application is built.
Inside the IDE everything works perfectly.

I've tried to set the columns names first but after the app is built it hangs
when setting the dgText.

I've tried every combination of syntax with no success.

The datagrid template stack is not encrypted or password protected, neither is
it a substack of an encrypted or password protected stack.

Before setting the dgText I did put an answer itemListWithTitle and
itemListWithTitle contained the right data.

adding an answer dgindexes... shows that indexes are empty, but only in the
built application.

What's strange is that it is working in the IDE and only there.

And the same thing happens with version 4.0.0 and 4.5.1.

I don't understand what's happening.

Thanks once again, best regards,

ÉrIC

Interesting. It means that the indexes are not existing. The data is
probably set but it is not properly drawn because the indexes are
missing. I encountered this, months ago but not understood why. I not
found the time to investigate further, but could be interesting to
understand.

Try to refresh the indexes by using the command RefreshIndex:
send RefreshIndex to grp Paramétrage items

What happens?

Create button script won't work - why?

2010-11-14 Thread Bill Vlahos
Make a new stack called Test and label the card One.

Put a button on the card with the following script:
on mouseUp
create button Fred in card One of stack Test
end mouseUp

The compiler doesn't complain but when I click the button I get this error:
button Button: execution error at line 2 (create: error in bad parent or
background expression), char 1

The following script works:
on mouseUp
put the defaultStack into vName -- note whatever the defaultStack is
   set the defaultStack to Test
   go to card One
   create button Fred
set the defaultStack to vName -- reset the defaultStack to what it was before
end mouseUp

Is there a way to directly create a button on a particular card in a particular
stack without going to it and doing all this? The stack I want to create the
button into is data stack that never gets viewed directly. In this case it will
be data in the custom property of that button.

Thanks,
Bill Vlahos

Re: Create button script won't work - why?

2010-11-14 Thread Mike Bonner
I don't think you can direct where the button goes, the dictionary says:
Summary: Creates a new object on the current card.
I believe you can get around this by placing a group on your card. Perhaps

 The following script works:
 on mouseUp
put the defaultStack into vName -- note whatever the defaultStack is
   set the defaultStack to Test
   go to card One
   create button Fred
set the defaultStack to vName -- reset the defaultStack to what it was
 before
 end mouseUp

Is there a way to directly create a button on a particular card in a
particular stack without going to it and doing all this? The stack I want to
create the button into is data stack that never gets viewed directly. In
this case it will be data in the custom property of that button.

I assume you mean other than the title bar color change, and shading

resumestack. Also possibly IconifyStack.

Thanks Mike. After checking your suggestions, I believe they all apply to
stacks that will no longer be on the screen, rather than just being inactive.
In my case, all three will be on the screen at the same time, so that the user
can work with one, view the others sometimes and go back and forth when
exchanging data.

Re: Can we set the color of an Apps title bar?

2010-11-14 Thread Mike Bonner
Nope, they can be on screen just fine. To do a quick test, create a stack,
create a substack. In the main stack put:

on resumeStack
set the backgroundcolor of this card to red
   pass resumestack
end resumeStack

on suspendStack
set the backgroundColor of this card to empty
   pass suspendstack
end suspendStack

Then click back and forth. Whichever stack you have at front will turn red.
If you choose a different program entirely, both will turn white. The
exception to this, I think do to the way the IDE works is that if you select
an IDE stack (for example the script editor) then start clicking back adn
forth, its possible to get both stacks red untill things sort themselves
out. This shouldn't occur in a standalone.

Obviously making the whole stack red might be a little garish, but is a
quick easy example so you can see how it works.

Yeah, don't believe you can set the title bar directly, its set by OS, but
if you were willing to roll your own then you could, or something simple
like a home made focus border that changes based on suspendstack and
resumestack would work. Unfortunately, pretty sure you can't affect the
stock title bar. There is a change of color on my system, but its too
subtle for my eyes to pick up easily. Gray, and slightly lighter gray, are
all.. erm. Gray. To me.

I think you've discovered a lack of orthogonality in the syntax: you
can do what you want with an existing control using the clone command,
but not with a new control using the create command. Go figure

Re: Create button script won't work - why?

2010-11-14 Thread Monte Goulding
Is there a way to directly create a button on a particular card in a
particular stack without going to it and doing all this? The stack I want to
create the button into is data stack that never gets viewed directly. In this
case it will be data in the custom property of that button.

You can only do this if you want to create the control in a group for some
reason. It is a bit odd. It should be:
create [invisible] type [name] [in group|card|stack]

Where stack reference creates the control on the current card of the stack. But
for some reason it doesn't work that way so stick to your script or create a
group to create objects in.

Re: Create button script won't work - why?

2010-11-14 Thread Bantymom

I had similar problems with copy and paste, and discovered there really
seemed no way to do it without being on the card. I could copy from another
card, but I had to be on the card I wanted to paste to.

So I use lock screen to go there in secret.

Now, I'm a very unsophisticated and simple person, and it is quite likely I
don't understand why you don't want to go to the actual card, unless you
have an on openCard handler you don't want to run right at that moment.
But unless that is the case, this seems to work (again, I realize that I
have probably oversimplified the situation and this might not be of any use
to you at all):

on mouseUp
   lock screen
   go to card Two
   create button Herb
   go to card One
   unlock screen
end mouseUp

It is still five lines instead of one though, I'm afraid. I made a little
stack but I don't think I can upload it here. It worked though.

Humbly,
Bantymom
