On win it is not... correct. But there is a FREE alternative. CutePDF
Writer is absolutely FREE. It utilizes GPL Ghostscript 8.15 as the PDF
engine. I use it allot, and it works great. Hey, did I mention that it
is FREE?  :-)

All print dialog boxes on OS X have an option to print to PDF as part
of the OS. If you install Acrobat you then get a PDF writer turning
up as a printer as well, but with more options.

Dave,

jan's pdf library and report tool are the best thing you can have. I
recommend sticking to Quartam library, you can ask him if you can
include it in your app by paying the license beforehand or something
like that.

No wonder, the name is QUARTAM :-)

Check this page: http://www.quartam.com/

Someone posted to just use the print dialog on mac. Is a pdf
printer standard on mac?

Standard on Mac OS X only!

On win it is not.

Sure it isn't ;-)

Re: How to create PDF files? Part II

2007-03-05 Thread Dave

Hi,

Basically I need the following:

Page 1 - Title Page has 2 Images at top left and top right of the
page, then a list of statistics about the movie file that has been
analyzed.

Page 2 to End, has two (html like) tables side by side with 6 columns
across. The first 5 contain Text data, the 6th contains a small image.

e.g.

Time Code   RED  SPAT  LUMX
00:00:01:00  0.00.0   0.3  2.1  IMAGE
00:00:01:01  0.00.0   0.4  2.1  M
00:00:01:01  0.00.0   0.4  2.1  A
00:00:01:01  0.00.0   0.4  2.1  G
00:00:01:01  0.00.0   0.4  2.1  E

The data is basically the time code of the movie and data about that
section, the image is a thumbnail of the frame in the movie and
covers all 5 vertical entries.

I'm not sure if I can do this just using native RunRev and the tools
mentioned so far can do this and I don't want to waste time finding
out. I looked at the Quartum Library and I reasonably sure it could
do it, so it's worth a try.

All the Best
Dave

If Rev is running on OS X, "open printing with dialog" opens the OS

If they're plain text files (might even work with RTF), you can pipe it
to the 'convert' application in the shell on OS X:

function stsMakePDF pSrcPath,pDestPath
  switch (the platform)
  case "MacOS"
if isOSX() then
  set the cursor to watch
  put "/System/Library/Printers/Libraries/convert" into tConvertApp
  get shell(tConvertApp && "-f" && q(pSrcPath) && "-o" &&
q(pDestPath) && "-j application/pdf")
  if it = "" then
return "OK"
  else
return "Error : " & it
  end if
else
  return "Error : stsMakePDF only works on Mac OS X."
end if
break
  default
return "Error : stsMakePDF only works on Mac OS X."
break
  end switch
end stsMakePDF

Other than that, can't you simply print it and in the print dialog
choose "Save as PDF..." from the PDF dropdown menu in the Print dialog?

Hi Luis,

Yes, I'm on MacOS X. I looked at doing that, but it seems like a lot
of work and it is fairly fancy and so would need "pages" and I can't
guarantee that they will have this on their system. If I can't use
the Quartum library or something like it then I'll probably write my
own External Command Module that uses the Apple PDF Development Kit,
(you never know I might even be able to sell it separately!!). I'm
going to leave it for a bit and if I don't hear anything I'll have to
cancel the demo!

Thanks a lot for your help,

2007-03-05 Thread Luis

Hiya,

I ran a check on some links I had to do with converting to PDF:

http://www.lowagie.com/iText/
http://www.accesspdf.com/pdftk/
http://jasperforge.org/sf/projects/jasperreports
http://www.pdflib.com/products/platforms/ Not cheap!

I've used iText from a Java app, pulling it in through Terminal app.

Hope this helps.

Cheers,

Luis.

Hi,

I have asked, but had no reply as yet, but I need to get
*something* ready now and if he doesn't reply or doesn't want to
release it then I can't do the demo and I need to let them know
ASAP! So if there's anything out there that will do what I want
NOW, I'll use it!

Thanks a lot

Dave,

jan's pdf library and report tool are the best thing you can have.
I recommend sticking to Quartam library, you can ask him if you
can include it in your app by paying the license beforehand or
something like that.

Hi,

Are there any products available to create PDF files in RunRev? I
need to be able to create a simple PDF file for a Demo this week.
I need it to be working for Friday. It looks like Quartum would
do it but it's not available for sale as yet and I can't get
figure out how to include the public beta into my project. I
posted to the Quartum list but have had no answer as yet and I
need to get something as a fall back in just in case they don't
respond or I can't include it in my project.
