Standalone problem

2010-11-12 Thread Joe Lewis Wilkins
OK, this is the problem. I've been working full time on an app for the better
part of a month or more. When I first started, it consisted of a main stack and
a sub-stack. One had 68 cards; the other 280. Not really complicated stuff.
Full card images with fields and buttons on top of the images and complete
TitleBar Menus. A good UI. When nearly complete, I built a standalone. No
problem with either the Mac or Windows versions. I then decided, for some very
good reasons of my own, to split the Main stack into a main and another
sub-stack. Once I completed that, not as easy as you might think, I tried to
build another standalone. The first time through I got a dialog saying that the
standalone was successfully built; however three warnings appeared below that
statement.
1. Icon does not exist:/Applications/Revolution
Studio/4.0.0-gm-1/Runtime/Windows/x86-32/Support/Sample Icons/genericapp.ico
2. Could not build for Windows because required files are missing.
3. Could not build for MacOSX because required files are missing.

I diddled around with the Standalone settings a bit, found a couple of things
that might have been the problem and built it once again. This time the same
thing happened, but there were only two warning:
1. Could not build for Windows because required files are missing.
2. Could not build for MacOSX because required files are missing.

I thought, Gee Whiz, I must have fixed the Icon problem. So I diddled some more
and built it once again. To my chagrin I got the original three warnings again.
I have now tried to build the application in excess of a dozen times, making no
other changes by diddling with anything; the result being that I receive
alternate warnings. 3 then 2, then 3, then 2, etc. etc. Talk about
frustration!! Unless someone has an easy resolution to this problem,
Rev will no longer be in my toolbox, even though I've used it for lots of
things that don't require a standalone or Window's versions. I certainly won't
be moving up to LC.

If interested, I'm working on a MacPro with OSX 10.6.5 and Rev 4.0.0-gm-1.

Joe,

it looks like something removed some files, inlcuding the empty' engines that
are the basis of standalones built by Revolution. Just re-install a fresh copy
of Rev and all should be solved.

Mark,

Thank you very much for the suggested resolution; I hope it works. Not sure
exactly how to go about installing a fresh copy of Rev, or even where to obtain
it. I'll try the obvious sources.

Right. The first number is the error description, the second is the line

Hi René,

I have no experience how Rev react to accents in a standalone but I
notice in your previous post that you use accent in the names of some
of your variables (vxMémoireAgencement, vxAgencementCodé).

In my experience accent and programming languages are not fully
compatible, especially during or after compilation.

If you have not solved your problem yet, may be try to remove all
accents (a quick find / replace could do the job with no effort).

Maybe it's not the problem, it's just a suggestion ;)

Re: Standalone problem

2010-04-28 Thread Mark Schonewille

Hi René,

Usually, only the first error is relevant. Sometimes, the other errors
give you useful information, but most of the time it is the first
error that made your script stop running. There are a few exceptions
on this, e.g. if you run the stack in the IDE or if stacks are
protected with passwords.

Urgent! Standalone Problem!!!

2008-09-18 Thread Dave

Hi,

I need to get the name of the Standalone Application when I'm running
in IDE mode. I have a standaloneSaved handler that sets vital
information for the Standalone after is has been saved, The main
problem is that the standaloneSaved handler is passed the name of
the Standalone folder in which the new folder for the applications
(Mac and Windows) have been saved, e.g.

path/StandAloneFolder/

Whereas what would be really useful would be the folder that is
created to store the Standalone Application, e.g.

path/StandAloneFolder/AppName/

Which contains:

MacOSX
Windows

I either the folder name or I need to be able to get the Standalone
Settings for the Application where the name of the Application is
stored.

Does anyone have any idea on how to solve this?

All the Best
Dave

Custom property set cRevStandaloneSettings, then the name property
within that set. Make sure you have Rev UI elements appear in lists
checked in Rev prefs or you won't be able to see it in the prop
inspector.

So something like:

put the cRevStandaloneSettings[name] of this stack into
tStandaloneName

should get you what you want.

Hope that helps
Chris

Here is what I use in a standaloneSaved handler (Mac only, but you can
easily adapt it to Windows as well):

on standaloneSaved pFolder
-- get the full name of the standalone folder
put the cRevStandaloneSettings[name] of stack tStackName into tName
put pFolder tName / into tAppFolder

-- if building multiple standalones, there will be a Mac OS X
folder, otherwise, just .app
if there is a folder (tAppFolder MacOSX) then
put MacOSX/ after tAppFolder
  end if

-- get out if can't find the new app
if there is not a folder (tAppFolder tName .app) then exit
standaloneSaved

end standaloneSaved

Standalone Problem

2007-08-19 Thread Thomas Cole
Dear Revolutionaries,

I have a stack with several games for learning. Everything works fine
except one game, on a single card, does not function in the Windows
standalone. I'm using the new studio software for mac. When you access
this card, the game doesn't function at all. Even the return to menu
button does not work. Nor will the quit button. Very odd. You see, the
Mac standalone works just as it does in the development environment.
Just fine.

What gives? Is there something I should check first? Is there something
that is taboo in the windows standalones? All the other little games
work fine.

Thank you very much.

I don't think the backgroundcolor is the culprit. I routinely set that
on almost every stack I make. Maybe you mean the textcolor? That would
do it. Remember that textcolor is inherited, so even if the fields don't
have textcolor set, they will inherit a color if it is set in the card
or the stack.

Re: Windows Standalone Problem Still Persist

2007-01-26 Thread Sarah Reichelt

Despite the number of suggestions that I received from the Rev
community, I still have been unable to resolve a problem with my
Windows Standalone. The background is white, which is what I want but
a little bit of text is visible. The text that is visible is some of
the label text. I have changed the size of the text entry fields,
size of the Arial font used throughout the program, turning Clear-
Type on, using a script suggested by Roger Eller. Only one button,
which was created with ButtonGadget2 is visible. I also checked the
color ink and visibility.

I made a sample app with entry field boxes and buttons using both
Arial and Tacona fonts and made a Windows Standalone without any
problems with the appearance.

I am using the latest version of Parallels (build 2130) to run my
project on. I am using OS X 10.4.8 and Rev. 2.7.4. Any more
suggestions?

I wonder is this a Parallels problem rather than a Windows problem? If
you want to send me the app, I'll test it on a real Windows box and
see what happens.

Cheers,

Hi Charles,

I'm unfamilar with the problem you're having, but if I may make a
suggestion:

Take the problem stack and standalone, zip them, and upload them to a
server. Let us know where we can download it and we'll take a look.

Re: OS X standalone problem

2006-01-18 Thread Thomas McGrath III

Sarah,

That is a standard OSX crash. I have been having a few of them lately
with 10.4.4 updated.
( I had one where the dialog said that the crash involved iChat and
an Unsanity software. and it asked to send a report to both
companies. Never saw that before...)

By standard I mean you end up with three choices, reopen, send report
and close/cancel. And could be your app or a memory issue or conflict
with software you have installed.

Try rebooting your system and see if it still crashes. If you want
you can send me the stack and I can test it here to isolate whether
it is something on your system or OS 10.4.4 etc.

Random guess here but maybe try repairing permissions on the computer

Thanks Trevor Tom for your suggestions. Repairing permissions didn't
help and it is a clean install of the system with only my app running,
so it can't be a conflict.

I reverted to an old copy of the app cuilt using Rev 2.2.1 (I think)
and that is working fine. the version gives 2.6 instead of the
current one which gives 2.6.6. I have had a couple of problems with
apps built using 2.6.1 but I am always reluctant to revert back.
Hopefully 2.7 will work better for me.

save standalone problem

2005-03-23 Thread Friedrich F. Grohmann
Dear group,

 I'm working with Rev 2.5 on a G4 notebook under Mac OS 10.3.2. I've
built two stacks, A and B, which differ only in terms of the images
imported on the cards. It is possible to save these stacks as
standalones. However, every time I try to save a third stack C whose
contents equal A plus B, I'm told There was an error while saving
the standalone application.

I've checked my archive of list messages and tried the suggestions
given in the past in these cases, notably switching from Search for
required inclusions... to Select inclusions for standalone
application. I am also sure that the path name contains no weird
characters. Furthermore, there is no password protection involved.

I would dearly love to know what is happening. Could it be that
something got messed up when I combined the stacks? I used a very basic
script for a button in stack A the script of which was:

 repeat x
go to the first cd of stack B
  cut this cd
go to the last cd of stack A
  paste
 end repeat

After running the script I added one final card (the one corresponding to
the last cd of stack B) manually to stack A. The new stack works as
it should but whatever I try I can't save it as a standalone. Any help
appreciated.

Re: save standalone problem

2005-03-23 Thread Malte Brill
Hi Fritz,
the problem is in the way you cut and pastethe cards to the new stack.
It is likely that there is more than one card with the same ID in the
stack the cards are copied to. This causes the hiccup and the
standalone can not be saved. Check in the inspector...

You might try this to copy your cards:
on mouseUp
repeat with i=1 to the number of cards of stack b
copy cd i of stack b to stack c
  end repeat
end mouseUp

Thanks, Malte, that solved my problem. I didn't pay attention to the
possibility that more than one card in a stack could have the same ID.
The negligence in this regard may be rooted in my HyperCard experience.
In HC, cards cut and then pasted into another stack are assigned IDs
different from their original ones. Anyway, thanks again for your kind
help.

Building a standalone - problem 1

2004-03-23 Thread jcwall
I wonder if somebody could help me with building a standalone, a
task which is new to me.

Here is what I am doing.  I have built two main stacks;
SLDataCollection which I use to collect and store data and
SLResults which is essentially a single card where I place the
results for printing. Everything works as planned on my mac
(PowerBook G4, 10.3.3).

Now I would like to build a standalone. Since I will be collecting
and storing data the SLDataCollection stack cannot be a
standalone, therefore, following the docs and much advice from
this list, I have mad a single card stack which will act as a splash
screen. This stack has a small animation and includes the
following script:

on openstack
set the loc of me to the screenLoc
  start using stack SLDataCollection
  start using stack StepLengthresults

animation stuff here - hides and shows fields

  lock screen
go stack SLDataCollection in window StepLength
unlock screen with visual barn door open
end openstack

I have put the two original main stacks in a folder SLStuff which is
within a folder that contains the splash screen.

The first problem I am having is that this splash screen hangs up
because it cannot locate the stacks in the start using commands. If
I open these stacks and close them again the splash screen works
fine. In reading the docs I think that I have to provide a filePath to
these files in the SLStuff folder. I have spent a frustrating few
hours trying to get this done without success. Any help would be
greatly appreciated - and I haven't even built the standalone yet!

Standalone problem (windows)

2004-01-18 Thread Andrew
Hi, List. Truly sorry if you've seen this post before, but my postings are
not appearing in my digests, so I can only assume that they are not sending.
Anyway, I just wanted to thank everyone for their advice on my standalone
problems. It seems like the Mac standalones download fine when I convert
them to a .sit file.
Meanwhile, I'm still having problems with the Windows standalone which
refuses to show the ask box when you hit a key. I made sure that the ask
box option was checked in the Distribution Builder, and the problem
persists.
Any ideas?
Thanks so much
