An AI/ML landing page for Beam is available now

2022-11-10 Thread Aizhamal Nurmamat kyzy
Hi Beam community!

We are happy to announce the release of new resources for AI/ML workflows
in Apache Beam [1].

A number of community members have been working on a series of
documentation guides and end-to-end examples to showcase various common
patterns to perform ML tasks with Apache Beam.

These patterns include data preprocessing with Dataframes, multi-model
inference, anomaly detection, and others. All of these guides come with
corresponding Jupyter notebooks [2] for users to easily try them out.
Please check them out and let us know if they have been useful.

We’ll continue to expand on this work, building guides for more use cases,
such as very large models (>30GB!), complex streaming inference,
cross-language inference, and more. Stay tuned!

Thanks,

Aizhamal

[RFC][design/idea] Beam Playground - Interactive Learning for Apache Beam

2021-09-21 Thread Aizhamal Nurmamat kyzy
TL:DR: We want to develop a Beam Playground. Please review the design[1]
and fill up this survey [2] to help us
prioritize features.

Hi all,

I along with a few community members thought of an idea to develop an
interactive environment to try out Beam transforms and examples. We are
calling it Beam Playground. The vision for the Playground is to be a *web
application where users can try out Beam without having to install /
initialize a Beam environment*.

We hope that this new tool will make it easier for new users to evaluate
and adopt Apache Beam, and provide positive developer experience.

The backend architecture and implementation details are described in the
design document[1].

We would be grateful if you filled out this poll[2] to help us prioritize
Beam Playground’s features.

Please share your feedback both on the idea and the design doc, and via the
survey.

We hope to build the Beam Playground in the next few months (see the
general timeline[3]), and your feedback would be very valuable to make sure
we develop a useful application.

Thanks!

Aizhamal

Allyship workshops for open source contributors

2021-06-02 Thread Aizhamal Nurmamat kyzy
Hi Beamers,

Would this community be interested in taking the Allyship Training? It
requires a 90min commitment for remote session learning. If we have a good
number of people who express interest in this thread, I will set up
training for the Airflow community. If we don't have the critical mass, I
might invite people from other open source projects, but the format and
learning will be the same!

Here are more details:

The training is led by Dr. Kim Tran (https://www.kimtranphd.com/), it aims
to position people of color and those in solidarity with us to develop the
necessary skills to build bridges across race, ability, gender, sexuality
and class.

Participants will leave:
- With the capacity to identify marginalization in real time in the open
source community
- Knowing how to address and respond to marginalization at individual and
systemic levels
- With a strong, critical understanding of the allyship framework
- Intersectional lenses, examining dynamics around gender, class, ability
and race
- A toolkit for recognizing and combating marginalization in real time

Format:
- Large groups will engage in a *90 minute*, remote learning session.
- Participants will be capped at 45 to enable engaging interactive
participation and responsiveness to participant questions and concerns.
- Session will include webinar style portion as well as breakouts for
hypothetical scenarios.

If you'd like to participate, please leave +1 under this thread. The thread
will stay open for 1 week.

Thanks,
Aizhamal

Webinar: Unlocking the Power of Apache Beam with Apache Flink

2020-05-26 Thread Aizhamal Nurmamat kyzy
Hi all,

Please join our webinar this Wednesday at 10am PST/5:00pm GMT/1:00pm EST
where Max Michels - PMC member for Apache Beam and Apache Flink, will
deliver a talk about leveraging Apache Beam for large-scale stream and
batch analytics with Apache Flink.

You can register via this link:
https://learn.xnextcon.com/event/eventdetails/W20052710

Here is the short description of the talk:
---
Apache Beam is a framework for writing stream and batch processing
pipelines using multiple languages such as Java, Python, SQL, or Go. Apache
Beam does not come with an execution engine of its own. Instead, it defers
the execution to its Runners which translate Beam pipelines for any
supported execution engine. Thus, users have complete control over the
language and the execution engine they use, without having to rewrite their
code.
In this talk, we will look at running Apache Beam pipelines with Apache
Flink. We will explain the concepts behind Apache Beams portability
framework for multi-language support, and then show how to get started
running Java, Python, and SQL pipelines.

find here: https://github.com/aijamalnk/beam-learning-month

Hope y'all are safe,

Howdy,

For everyone who is around Seattle area, we will be hosting Beam meetup on
the 26th of September 6.00pm PST! Please join us for talks covering both
use cases and deep technical dives. It is also a great chance to get to
know local community members and meet contributors to Beam:) RSVP here [1].

Our first speaker - Brian Hulette will talk about portability/python
schemas & demo the SqlTransform in Python (cool stuff). Stay tuned for more
speaker announcements!

Also, if you wish to present your use case or talk at this event, please

Hi all,

I just wanted to let you know that we finally managed to open the
applications for Apache TAC for ApacheCon NA 2019 in Las Vegas.

For those of you that don’t know what TAC is, it’s Apaches Travel
Assistance Committee. It’s the main goal of ApacheCons to get the
communities together.
Sometimes not everyone can afford to go. This is where TAC comes in. If the
reason is, that you can’t afford coming, you can apply for travel
assistance.
If you are selected, Apache will pay for flight, hotel, conference-fees and
even food and drinks while at the conference.

I’ll never forget my first trip to ApacheCon in Denver about 5 years ago.
It was an amazing experience.

I should however mention, that we usually ask people to apply for tac to
the closest ApacheCon in a year.
So if you live in Europe applying for ApacheCon Europe in Berlin might be
more apropreate (Applications for that will open soon)
I’ll definitely be at both and looking forward to meet you.

And if you do apply … please, please, please read the question and the
comment under the answer field fully.
This makes the lives of TAC judges so much easier and could even improve
your chances of being selected.

Chris

Betreff: Travel Assistance for ApacheCon NA Las Vegas 2019 now open.

Hi Committers!

The Travel Assistance Committee (TAC) are pleased to announce that travel
assistance applications for ApacheCon NA 2019 are now open!

We will be supporting ApacheCon NA Las Vegas, Nevada on 9th - 12th
September 2019

TAC exists to help those that would like to attend ApacheCon events, but
are unable to do so for financial reasons.
For more info on this years applications and qualifying criteria, please
visit the TAC website at < http://www.apache.org/travel/ <
http://www.apache.org/travel/> >. Applications opened today and will close
around the 21st June.

Important: Applications close on June 21st, 2019. Applicants have until the
closing date above to submit their applications (which should contain as
much supporting material as required to efficiently and accurately process
their request), this will enable TAC to announce successful awards shortly
afterwards.

As usual, TAC expects to deal with a range of applications from a diverse
range of backgrounds. We therefore encourage (as always) anyone thinking
about sending in an application to do so ASAP.
We look forward to greeting many of you in Las Vegas!

Kind Regards,
Gavin - (On behalf of the Travel Assistance Committee)

[Announcement] New Website for Beam Summits

2019-03-18 Thread Aizhamal Nurmamat kyzy
Hello everybody!

We are thrilled to announce the launch of beamsummit.org dedicated to Beam
Summits!

The current version of the website provides information about the upcoming
Beam Summit in Europe on June 19-20th, 2019. We will update it for the
upcoming summits in Asia and North America accordingly. You can access all
necessary information about the conference theme, speakers and sessions,
the abstract submission timeline and the registration process, the
conference venues and much more that you will find useful until and during
the Beam Summits 2019.

We are working to make the website easy to use, so that anyone who is
organizing a Beam event can rely on it. You can find the code for it in
Github .

The pages will be updated on a regular basis, but we also love hearing
thoughts from our community! Let us know if you have any questions,
comments or suggestions, and help us improve. Also, if you are thinking of
organizing a Beam event, please feel free to reach out
for support, and to use the code in GitHub as well.

We sincerely hope that you like the new Beam Summit website and will find
it useful for accessing information. Enjoy browsing around!

Thanks,
Aizhamal
