Re: Multi-homed geronimo woes

2008-07-10 Thread Joseph Leong
Hi Pete,

If you ping whine now, does it resolve to localhost? If it does, then the
DNS record is fine and something might be wrong with the geronimo config.

I'm not totally sure as well, but if your DNS is being governed on
etc/hosts/ after a restart of the service - I believe your (local) dns
entries should be in effect immediately?

Hopefully this will help rule out whether its DNS or geronimo.

Hope this helps,

In my /etc/hosts file I have:

 127.0.0.1 localhost www.mumble.net
 127.0.0.1 localhost www.whine.org
 127.0.0.1 localhost www.grumble.org

The websites I have associated with mumble and grumble work just fine
 but whine does not.

If I do a telnet to port 80 to the IP addresses associated with mumble
and grumble I get a response. When I telnet to port 80 for whine's
 address I get no response.

Now.. I may be about to answer my own question here, but I just moved
whine's DNS records today. Might this be a case where DNS has not
caught up with reality and geronimo is just confused?

Upgrading to Dojo 1.1.1

2008-06-06 Thread Joseph Leong
Hi everyone,

I've been tossing the idea around in my head of taking the initiative to
upgrade the current items written in Dojo to 1.1.1, I know we still have
some Dojo 0.4.3, which isn't supported anymore, in use and there has been
vast improvements with their new Dijit package for widgets among many other
items. Also, with some recently reported JIRAs about accessibility
compatibility being an issue in these Dojo components we can make use of the
a11y available in it. Overall, i also think we might also benefit a cleaner
setup from streamlining our versions in terms of future development and
maintenance as well.

Although I haven't looked in complete detail in each of the AG Dojo pieces,
i know that the 0.4.3 transition to 1.1.1 will take some work because the
widget system has been separated out to it's own pieces (diji) and so simple
work arounds will not do. That is, this will be a big block change rather
than an incremental one.

Does anyone have any thoughts - one way or the other on this undertaking?

Thanks!
Joseph Leong

I'm not sure if this is exactly what you're looking for, but we have some
documentation on 'WADI Application Distribution Infrastructure':

prove to be a good place to start for your solution. Also, I've seen
references on the list to a third party called Terracotta at

To add any clarification, so inside your ims.war file you have a folder
called ims.war. Take the contents in that folder and unpack it to the root
level of your war file.

 Hello again,

Let me amend my previous statement. I was thinking slower than my fingers

in the root level of your actual war.

Please ask for clarification if necessary.

  Hello,

I think you issue is with your directory structure. Currently, you have

ims/*everythinginyourwar* and then repackaging the war and deploying.

Hi Praveena,

Going off of what Jason Warner and Joe Bohn said about minimalistic
installs, in the event that you've installed a minimalistic version of
Geronimo...
You can install the console, welcome page and other features through the
command line. For example in linux you could run:
/Geronimo_Home/bin/deploy.sh -u system -p manager search-pluginsto see
what kind of options you.

Hope this helps!
