Trunk Demo Management App Themes

2011-07-26 Thread ScottA
Has something changed in the current trunk with regard to visual themes?
Firstly using Win7 pro\IE9 and Smooth Feather, the preferance and business
applications drop down will not close and it is impossible to change themes.
Then when I opened FF, there are only three themes available. Bluelight,
Smooth Feather and Flat Grey (old). Were the other themes removed? Cheers.

Re: OFBiz: The road ahead RE Accounting

2011-01-27 Thread ScottA

I'd love to see the accounting tightened up a bit and put into a more user
friendly approach. While I am not a great fan of the closed source
QuickBooks, it does make it very easy to navigate and get things done.
Within a couple of clicks you are right where you need to be. After two
years with OFBiz, the entire accounting UI still confuses me. I love the
idea that OFBiz could run my entire business from start to finish. It has
all the parts, it just needs the ui and process pieced together.

Hi,

I am using Win7 Pro, IE 8.0.7600 and when I log into current trunk, Business

Re: Question regarding Catalog management in Ofbiz

2010-04-30 Thread ScottA

If I were the guy who asked the question, I’d be gone by now. I’d be thinking
that I’d like to find an alternate to OFBiz and who’s that going to help? It
won’t help sell more e-books, it won’t result in my company getting a new
client, it’ll just be a lost opportunity to add a potential user or
committer and in that case everyone loses.

I’d love to see the civility return to this list. Answer questions, have a
tagline to more info on your sites. Write and post topics about how to use
OFBiz and include your company name as a reference. But more than anything
else, have respect for a differing opinion or give advice as an old sage but
to continue this type of thing will not encourage anyone to participate.

Sorry to poke my nose in but these pissing contests only make the project
look bad and that’s a real shame.

Question about add-ons

2010-04-02 Thread ScottA

Hi All,

I was just thinking out loud and I thought I’d post it to the community and
see what you guys thought.

Has the community ever considered and App Store type of approach to
customizations? What I mean by this is taking pieces\modules that you’ve
developed but not given back to the core project for whatever reason (be it
not practical for the core or just not worth the time to maintain) and
packaging it for sale. It might also encourage more committers over time.

The way I could see it happening is that a contributor take a module they’ve
created and attach two prices to it. First price being a restrictive license
approach and the second and more expensive approach being a Apache license
version that allows it to be added to the purchasers installation or back to
the project if the project wishes it to be included It could even be placed
in a separate place where future users could browse and add it if they had a
need. I think this type of approach could also benefit the Dev's in allowing
them to a second stream of revenue in purchase, installation and support if
not a part of the main project.

Like I said, I was just thinking out loud and thought I'd ask. I don’t know
if it’s possible or not but it might be interesting to actually create a
marketplace for add-ons that does not exist elsewhere as far as I know.

Cheers.

Re: Question about add-ons

2010-04-02 Thread ScottA

Tim,

I would think that it would have to go through testing to be compatible to
each release and I'm not saying that it would have to be 100%. The releases
are not but if the committer was not willing to test on a periodic basis,
then it should be removed. I guess the question you are really asking is who
would moderate such a thing and I think free enterprise would. If you buy
the app and it does not work or it breaks, then you leave a review and the
next guy is going to pass on the offering.

I am sure OFBiz itself could be configured to run this. I'm not saying it
would be perfect but why not give something a try to start with? I'm sure
most of the long time guys here have something to offer.

Ruth, I dont have any add-ons I want to sell. I'm a small business owner
slowly building OfBiz out to meet my needs. The reason I asked this question
is that I'm wondering what kind of add-ons have already been built by others
that are not in the project themselves and which could benifit me.

BJ mentioned we have many in the special purpose but like I said earlier,
as a non-technical user how would I know?

Thanks for the time.

Multiple Payment Types

2010-03-25 Thread ScottA

Hello,

I was checking out the latest ecommerce in the trunk and I have a question
regarding multiple payment types. While it is not implemented in the trunk,
is there any support OOTB where someone can place an order then pay for it
using lets say a visa, a mastercard and another form of payment? I see that
you can use a credit card and a gift card but the scenario I am asking about
could be an invoice of $300 with a $100 payment by Visa, a $100 payment by
Amex and a $100 payment by Discover where the customer is choosing the
amount to pay by each method.

Any help would be appreciated. TIA

Re: EZBiz

2010-03-12 Thread ScottA

David,

This idea is of great interest to me and would mean a lot for my business.
I'm running QB enterprise and a home grown system at the moment but we have
a lot of double entry, etc and I'm hoping that QB will eventually take over
my entire business from accounting to ecommerce. That said, I lack the
skills to be able to participate in the development effort and therefore
rely on the community.

However, while I am no Rockefeller I could contribute with some $ and I'd be
willing to bet that there would be others that could see the benefit from
your ideas and also contribute. Is there any way that you and the other
committers could try to monetize some of the development that the user
community would like to see versus having to engage the services of a single
OFBiz provider? Call it a bounty system or whatever but it’s the only way I
can see where I could help move the project forward.

Just an idea for what it’s worth since I would hate to see this idea fall by
the wayside.

Thanks.
