Mark,

Threats are self-perceived. And name calling behind a keyboard is
quite the brave act.

I've no issue with objective criticism of any technology. I do tire
of inane and repetitive assertions of opinions based as fact. I
prefer to code grounded upon something other than faith-based
perceptions.

And if your efforts are intended to be humorous, trust me you
current career choice was a wise one.

2005-07-02 Thread David G. Friedman
D.J.,

That was a very lively post. Did someone hit close to
home with a recent comment or two?

Why not sue away? I'm sure I could use the money
from the inevitable self-defensive counter-suit. I could
go on and on about the lawyer in the family, but I'd
have to stop feuding with him. Don't make me make peace
with my relative. THAT would be pure evil!

So: How about a nice game of chess? (Joshua, WarGames)

(Probably) To Be Continued Next Friday when our
list's CLEARLY off-topic discussions resume.

Tune in next week when our heroes (as if we even
know who they are) battle it out with the evil
Dr. Multiple Personality. Same list time, same
list channel!

And now back to your regularly scheduled POSTS.

Mark could care less about code. I get crossways with people because
I care about code. Also, James and I are not really on the best terms

And, Friedman, that offering does not warrant the description as a

consistent with your other puerile offerings on the list..

Actually Mark told me offline that he really enjoys harassing people
on our list. This is unfortunate, but as he explained to me in nose-
bleeding detail, he currently suffers from a state of PMS-D (Post
Microsoft Delusion). Typical symptoms include an unquenchable thirst
for midget-porn, hair growth in "strange and unusual places", and the
occasional off-colored vaginal discharge.

While it is disheartening to see him suffer from this common
condition. We are here for you Mark. We love you man!

Actually, I changed the email address so I could continue this
scintilating conversation away from the office from my laptop. Nice
try at a good dig, though. Try to rise above mediocrity.

Cheers!

I noticed Mark that you have changed your email address from your
work one to a more "personal" one. No doubt in view of the comments
made about your current position and how well you must be reflecting
on your present employer.

Still any future prospective employers can have the joy of reading
your delightful missives via the wonder that is Google.

FWIW, I do find Mark's posts to have little redeeming value and would
prefer not to be inflicted with them.

Using Thunderbird mail client:

1) Go to tools --> Message Filters
2) Select "New"
3) On Left hand column change field to "Sender"
4) Make sure middle column has "contains"
4) In Right hand column add in [EMAIL PROTECTED]
5) Select more
6) Add in far right column [EMAIL PROTECTED]
7) On bottom under "Perform these actions" mark "Delete the message"
8) Click "OK"

+1 what he said. :)

There is a difference between expressing conflicting viewpoints,
infantile behavior, and generally being offensive. If one person's
behavior is offensive enough to drive people away then that hurts the
Struts community rather than helps it and I would expect the
committers to try and fix the problem.

FWIW, I do find Mark's posts to have little redeeming value and would

Sheesh man, I'm not calling for a ban on anyone, but give Niall a break. Niall
is one of the most helpful people I've ever met online. Mark comes in here and
says "Struts is dead" and calls everyone faggots, etc., ad nauseum. He might
behave that way on many lists, but all of us who don't know him don't know
that, and we're not used to it. It doesn't bother me what people say in
general, but if it bothers Niall, and Joe, then suddenly it bothers me too.
These guys work too hard -- for us (at least partially for us). This list is
supposed to be about volunteering -- providing support for Struts. If I was a
new user and I walked into this list yesterday, I'd be saying to myself, how
can Struts really be any good (or worth it) if this is what it's like to hang
out in the community? The committers don't deserve that. It's just a matter of
showing respect for others. I wouldn't come into your house and purposely grind
mud into your carpet. This is not the Internet at-large, this is the Apache
Struts-user list.

Independent thought and trolling aren't the same in my opinion. I'm still not
for a ban on anyone, but if the committers (who do all the work) are bothered,
whose side are you on? How sucky would this list *really* be if those guys (and
all the other guys and gals who volunteer help every day) went away, and left
us with nothing but a mail version of IRC?

Well, IMO, the funny part of them is that 50% are accurate and valid.

So, do we now ban people whose opinions do not match ours because they
are "disruptive"?

Great way to build up the community Niall - ban independent thought.

Larry
