Yep , it is (patronizing is always wasted) :

Want to comfort my tortured soul ? Simple . Get with
the program ... take your dick out'a the dike .

... but you're way too busy to do that . Thank god you
are not creating scripts , or shaders like you used to
do all the time .

Chances are they would be a few dimes short of a
dollar too , like this latest crop of nonsense is .

Back on topic: how about people's experiences with the Packer?

Sorry can't contribute ... I have it filed under the "yet another good
thing" of V6 to get into, probably by accident some day. But no more fun for
me playing with V6 ... back to work ... I have to draw 1080 pix. Even with
RS3D it's a bit of a mission.

Hi Matthias :

Thanks for your 7.9 seconds . Much obliged .

(so , anyway , to continue the insanity) Why would you
resend _that_ particular file that frankolino sent to
us , last year . You gave no explanation (of course) .

And to further the madness along another notch or 2 ,
why would you expect the rest of us who are still running
the non-beta v 6.01.03 , to be able to run this script in
the first place ? Did you run the script that he sent
with your beta-V6 ? (Mat goes "duhhh ... what script?")

Also , why have you suddenly decided to switch to a
'Timo-like', RPL method of explaining details ?

Riddle me this ... why do I feel like 'Moe' in a typical
3 stooges episode ? (I'll let the list decide who the
other 2 stooges are)

Please tell me that you guys are not working in the
aerospace industry and do not have any desire to do so !

You say you're running a beta-V6 , the whirling dirvish
say's he is running a demo-V6 , and both you nit-wits tell
the list , "script runs in V6" . You're cracked !

If I had you 2 here in this room I'd bang your skulls
together ... after I put in some ear-plugs (the sound
of those 2 hollow spheres clanging together would
probably be deafening) .

Please , just for entertainment value , post some more
info . Go ahead waste 3 seconds . (I'm dying to see how
far down the rabbit hole this will actually go)

Tested on RS v 6.01.04

I'm running RS v 6.01.03 .

I admire your brevity , but would you care to spend
29 seconds and tell us what you did to make this
script work (if it works) ?

You are at version 6.01.04 . How ? Did you get an update
from realsoft ? If not , how would you explain the version
difference ?

Did you change something in the code ? What ? What was
causing it to not run for us V6 users ?

  Throw us a bone .

unzip the file in ...Realsoft3d/scripting folder
it should look like

If you get an error,
something like ...jpeg...
place the volcano-island.jpg
in the main scripting folder
(...Realsoft3d/scripting/volcano-island.jpg)
or search in the *.js file for the "volcano-island.jpg"
path and correct it.

Feel fee to ask.

a short reply

Stop . All halt . Skip the short replies ... please . I
spent 2 hours this morning trying to figure out why your
script would not run on V5.x , then posted an elaborate
mail on those issues I encountered .

When you get time , go over all the important points
I made , and reply to them , or not , whatever , but
please stop these useless 'quick-fire' replies .

They completely match your quick-fire .zip files for
level of professionalism (low) & frustration (very high) .

Secondly , I spent some time on your OpenGL problem ,
but you don't even have time to ...

1) run RS (V6 demo???) ?
2) build a large sphere ?
3) Change to windows GDi ?
4) hit the render button ?

Takes 90 seconds ... MAX ! . Humour me (and help others)

Further more , you have mentioned here and in the forum
that you are using a V6

Yes , you are right ... you are just guessing , and once again
have not taken the time to actually read the thread (who
could blame you , it's now a mile long) .

I normally go into repeat mode for you , but my New Year's
Resolution prevents me from doing that .

I will say , however, it has nothing to do with bad luck ,
and everything to do with people who simply do not take the
time to do things right . Do not take the time to think .
Do not take the time to explain the details correctly .

So what's wrong with that ? Nothing , if you like chinese
puzzles . If you like scratching your head and wasting time .
An extra 2 minutes of explaining , or 2 minutes writing a
'readme.txt file' , or 2 minutes thinking , will save a
few dozen of people from wasting a ton of time trying to
get something to work right , the very first time .

"stumbled on some quirks by pure bad luck" . Man , if you
only had half a clue what has been going on in this thread .
(but then again , why should this thread be any different
for you , than all the others ?)

Looking forward to seeing some of this work you keep
talking about .

Just my 2 cts... I guess lately you stumbled on some quirks by pure bad
luck, the waste of time must be frustrating!

I didn't have time to check out the JS stuff, really have to focus on the
things I need right now, like the Building tool and...

...the Packer! Let me just say I'll call it the 'Picky Packer' from now
on...
Anyone tried the Packer tuts? I got in trouble whenever I strayed from the
tut a millimeter, unlike the Building tool which is very intuitive :(

Maybe it's one of those blind spots in my mind, the concept reminds me a bit
of the GUI customization tools.

But I recognize its great potential and swear I'll be Packer Master before
the summer!

Are you saying you D/L'd the V6 Demo from this site ? I'd
be surprised if you did . Or are you just assuming I didn't
know where to go for demo D/L's ? I'd be surprised as well
if that is what you are thinking , considering I already
mentioned that there is no V6 demo there .

Of course that is the first place I went yesterday . You
have to give an email address first , then you get a link in
the mail . When I followed that link to the download page
there were only V5.x versions there .

Please , at this rate , I think it best if we just drop it .
Let's just give it a rest until someone has some real info-
rmation to share , or SP1 , whichever comes first .

For me , as of right now , this last trip to nowhere has
put me officially on the disabled list , as far as java
scripting goes .

Stop .

Further more , you have mentioned here and in the forum
that you are using a V6 demo . This has exasperated me ,
since I can not find a link to a V6 demo , to test your
script with , but you still haven't replied to this issue .

This is pure , unadulterated , madness ...

A question , "just what the hell is going on here?" .

Hello from sunny California :

Bad acid , or an elaborate Chinese Puzzle ? Hang on to your
hats as I take us through the current bizzaro-world of java
script testing ...

Frank :

I see you posted on the RS forum "new version 1.61" , but
the file you posted to the list was
"frankolinos_nurbshelper151_.zip" .

This got me thinking , so I tried your zip file (that won't
run on my V6) , on V5sp3 . I managed to get this working (fin-
ally) and noticed that the toolbar stated it to be
'Frankolinos NurbsCurve Helper XL 1.61B' .

In your included Docs you make no mention of 'XL 1.61b' .

Anyway , here's what I discovered about the annoying jpeg
file problem , as well as the troubles I encountered with
this latest version to run .

Let's start with the zip file .

1) It needs to be named correctly .
2) It needs an update on the html file (it's 2 years old)
3) The docs need to mention your ... ... _Pro_151_Helix.js
4) When you unzip it , it creates a folder
/frankolinos_nurbshelper151_ . Inside THIS folder is the
actual folder that a user will need to place in their
RS/Scripting Folder in order for your script to run .

Notice that the 2 folder names are just slightly diff-
erent so as to suck the life out of someone ? In short
you need to eliminate the first folder in the zip file .

That brings us to the matter of your script's place of
residence on our hard drive . V1.61B will not run unless
the jpeg file resides in ...

:\RS\scripting\frankolinos_nurbshelper151\

The folder _Must_ be named as such , and it must include
the .jpeg file there , and only there . Any deviation will
result in an error message .

However , on my system , I was able to get the script to
run if I placed the script in the :\rs\scripting folder ,
as long as I ran another java script file first (and the
jpeg file was where it needs to be) . No idea why that
is happening , and maybe it's just my setup (not sure) .

Now it's time to mention your previous script ...
"Frankolinos Nurbs Curve & Helix Helper Pro V1.51" .

The jpeg MUST be in :\RS\scripting\ , or else it will
cause problems . You can move the script to it's own
folder and it _Might_ run, but don't move the jpeg .

These are great scripts that can and have caused a lot
of hair pulling and cold sweats , simply because of a
few tiny little errors . Once again , it is very important
to do all the little things correctly , such as ...

- Name the zip file correctly
- Update the Docs with each version release
- Notify the user about the jpeg hazard
- get others to test it out first , as well as yourself

I haven't tested the actual functionality of this script
so maybe someone else can take the baton and run with it
for a while ?

Thanks for your great scripts , Frank !

about instances

2008-01-06 Thread Arjo Rozendaal

Hi,

A little tip on instances. There's a tool now to link your instance to
another object. Select the instance and the new object you want to link
it to. Now you'll see a new tool called "attach" in the toolbar. Click
it and your instance will use the new object as it's source.

It doesn't run in V6 , as I mentioned a couple of times
yesterday . Frankolino is apparently running a demo version
of V6 , which has the java bug fixed .

I've mentioned that too , but still no reply on that
point , as to if it's actually correct and where he may
have gotten a demo version of V6 .

  Like I said , I give up .

Hi Frank :

The V6 service pack will not fix video card driver
problems . SP1 _Could_ put back the "wireframe via
Window's GDi" Icon though (like we had in V4 &V5) .
This would help new users troubleshoot their card's
possible driver problems .

You are using OpenGL but you just don't know it .
V6 makes you use OpenGL (by default) all the time .

Yes , by all means , manually switch to 'Windows GDi'
and try again .

I'm sure this will solve your problems . Even the
latest Video Card drivers might not , with some man-
ufacturers . I swore off ATI because of bad drivers,
then off Nvidia .

It's a crap shoot . Best to ask users what kinds of
Cards they are running to find out which works best .

  I'm running Intel Q35 with on-board video , which
works fantastic with this quad-core and V6 . Still ,
I much prefer GDi wireframe mode for rendering .

good luck

Yes. I know autocad has these "object snaps" as they call them, but I
believe most cad programs have similar functions. Could be very usefull in
rs3d too, especially since we have a dedicated building tool.

actual folder that a user will need to place in their
RS/Scripting Folder in order for your script to run .

Hi Frank :

There are actually 3 modes to render your window in , so
one should keep this in mind when reporting problems or bug
reports concerning 'View Window' rendering .

Mode 1) Window state is full 'OpenGL rendering'
Mode 2) Window state is 'Wireframe OpenGL' rendering
Mode 3) Window state is non-OpenGL Wireframe rendering

So , the prefered method , in order to bypass any possible
OpenGL driver problems is to use Mode 3 when reporting
problems , and in fact , Mode 3 will probably cure the
problem anyway .

I think most of these kinds of problems are OpenGL related .
It could be RS but usually it is the GL driver . Same with
other apps .

The default V6 does not have an Icon for Mode 3 , so go
into 'View Properties' , and on the 'Draw' Tab , at bottom
is 'Canvas Options' . Change that from OpenGL to 'Windows
GDi' .

V5.x's wireframe Icon switched OpenGL off (Mode 3) but
V6's Wireframe Mode is Mode 2 (Wireframe with OpenGL) .

Hope that helps .

dear rs friends, I have rendered a little test scene with RS v6, I have got
such a mysterios problem... the
realsoft renderer works twice a time on my screenplay. After minimize the
rs-window gui and maximize it,
everything will be o.k.:-) ! ;-D

A picture I attach... perhaps there is a collision problem with other 3apps? So
far as I can remember
"matthias" has had a similiar problem with v 5... / does anybody can help?

Dear Andre, I am thinking its not a problem of the video card driver. I have
rendere the scene with RS 5.1 SP4 it does render everything as well as I
wish:-) / No idea, where the damned devil lives in detail;-) I will check it
otherwise. Thank you for the hint. Bye, Frank

Re: wow!!

2008-01-06 Thread Mark Heuymans
My works is under no NDA, there's no good reason why there's hardly
anything
on my website. But only a few days ago I've asked someone to design a
small

and simple site for me with some of my work on it. Shouldn't take long (I
hope).

Ahh, I've been neglecting my own website for too long; getting a huge update
in the air before march is now priority #1!

V6 is really very Wow. There's one wish from the heart for V7 though:
"snap

at intersection" and "construct a line perpedicular to another
line/surface". Agree?

Regards,

Frank Bueters

Sounds very useful... features from CAD software?

I'll be careful with wishes for V7 for a while, checking out all the new V6
stuff will take a few months ;)

These Links :

on Rob D's site were down for a little while , I think .
They're shockwave/flash and you can find them in your
browsers 'temp' file after you've D/L'd them (if you
want to copy them to another folder for viewing again
later) .

They are type .swf files , and may require renaming .
