cloudstack 4.1 & vmware vsphere 5.1 works?

2013-06-12 Thread Jose Merchan

Hi all

We are testing Cloudstack 4.1 with VMware vSphere 5.1 We have installed
CloudStack 4.1 in Ubuntu Precise from repository
http://cloudstack.apt-get.eu/ubuntu

We have a demo lab with 2 ESXi 5.1 and with vcenter 5.1
We follow instructions in documentation
http://cloudstack.apache.org/docs/en-US/Apache_CloudStack/4.1.0/html/Installation_Guide/vmware-install.html
but when we want to create a cluster in CloudStack we receive the error
/vmware resource manager not found/

We need anything more?

Thanks

Maxim,

This exact feature was introduced in the 4.1 release, but its API only.

I summarised the API call in this blog article on the features of 4.1

Those packages do not contain the non-oss components (like VMware support).
You should build your own packages.

What is the role of the user that you want to give access to see only a
specific zone?
A normal-user, a domain-admin, or a root-admin?

William - good use case, CS has the ability to dedicate resources to an account
domain, but not restrict them. You can read about that here -
https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/CLOUDSTACK/Dedicated+Resources+
-+Private+zone%2C+pod%2C+cluster%2C+host+Functional+Spec

Do you want to raise an enhancement for restricting a domain/account to a zone ?

Hi ,

You could let the root admin dedicate a zone to specific domain/account . In
that case only that user would have access to that zone. This is a new feature
introduced in 4.2

Here is the functional spec -

https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/CLOUDSTACK/Dedicated+Resources+-+Private+zone,+pod,+cluster,+host+Functional+Spec

In my last statement , a user anyways can't see the infrastructure section on
the UI . So by allowing the root admin to dedicate a zone to an
domain/account , that account can only use that zone's resources.

RE: cloudstack 4.1 & vmware vsphere 5.1 works?

2013-06-12 Thread Tamas Monos
Hi,

I have upgraded from CS 3.0.2 -> to 4.1.
The only thing I did was yum update cloud-* and it works with vmware off the
shelf.
Would that be because 3.0.2 had the vmware libs back then and the new packages
getting installed are not removing them I can't tell.
It just works with 5.1 for me by default.
I have always used only vmware with CS from the beginning.

Should I worry/update those vmware libraries on the updated CS 4.1?
