About the scheduling of SystemVM&Virtual Router

2014-04-18 Thread James
Hi all,
I am a newcomer to cloud stack. I set up a zone in cloud stack by using
vmware vcenter to managing
serveral esxi servers. When the zone was initialized, 2 system VMs and a
Virtual Router were created on some servers randomly. Is there a way to
tell the scheduler to deploy the 3 VMs on a fixed server? Hope your
reply, thanks.

I then found this,
http://comments.gmane.org/gmane.comp.apache.cloudstack.devel/42171
I don't know if I should have disabled the router version check but I am
now installing my first VM.
The VM didn't have access to my public interface. It setup it self with
only one network interface. How can i give the VM a second interface and
it be on the public network?

If I can get the VR updated then the instances will work and I will be

CloudStack public networking query

2014-04-18 Thread Jonathan Gowar
Hi,

I'd like to confirm how public networking works; 2 part query.

1) Let's say I have a private cloud 10.x.x.x , can I contact all these
machines over a public network? Most of what I read talks about NAT or
Juniper SRX machines. But, what if I have 100 customers each wanting
public SSH access, how does that then work? Surely then NAT will not
cut it.

2) Also, on a practical note, how would this be physicall connected e.g.
setup:-

1x switch
1x linux firewall
1x management server
1x nfs server
2x hosts

Would I trunk a public network to the uplinks on my switch, then add the
public VLAN to the ports the hosts are on. The firewall can do NAT and
port forwarding for the management LAN. Does that sound right?

Many thanks,
Jon

Yes, it looks as though the two machines are running different
versions of qemu/libvirt, as the destination doesn't support the
machine type that the VM has defined in it's XML on the source host.

Live migration failed to newly provisioned KVM host

2014-04-18 Thread Indra Pramana
Dear all,

I am using CloudStack 4.2.0 and KVM hypervisor. I just provisioned a new
KVM host and I am able to add the host into the zone/cluster, it's up and
routing. This new host is using a different (newer) type of server, but
using the same type of CPUs as per CloudStack's requirements on KVM hosts.

However, when I tried to live migrate a VM from an existing host to the new
host, the migration failed with below error messages:

I'd try to destroy it, but be aware of downtime while recreation is
happening. Also check mgmt logs for any related messages.

Is this an upgraded install? If so, did you remember to install new system

Sounds like you have memory over-provisioning enabled, you shouldn't
need to disable virtio-balloon. That can be done, but as it's quite ugly
(well, if you wipe virtio-balloon.ko from the template and from the
template's initrd it should work).
The best would be to disable memory over-provisioning or to upgrade to
4.3 and enable "vm.memballoon.disable".

See https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/CLOUDSTACK-5968 and

Opened http access and nfs access, and so now swift is mounted into my ssvm

Thanks for your lights.

RE: Cloudstack complains about storage space

2014-04-18 Thread Saksham Srivastava
Abu,
Here is a little calculation which may help you:
allocatedPercentage = (totalAllocatedSize + totalAskingSize) /
(totalOverProvCapacity)

So the issue could be that the asking size of the volumes you are trying to
provision is very high.

You can also approximate totalAllocatedSize calculation from the following
(tables):
summation of all sizes of non destroyed volume (volumes.size)
summation of all (volumes.vm_snapshot_chain_size) for each volume on the pool
(template_spool_ref.template_size) for the templates on the pool

It will be good if you can provide more logs.

Thanks,
Saksham

Subject: Cloudstack complains about storage space

Hey,

strange issue, i try to deploy an instance but it always fails with:

nsufficient un-allocated capacity on: 3 for volume allocation:
[Vol[204|vm=182|ROOT]] since its allocated percentage: 7627580.872342288 has
crossed the allocated pool.storage.alloca

the local storage has 400GB free and even the dashboard in CS is showing just
23% consumed space. The value is a little bit strange. What can cause this
issue?

Thx!
