Unable to deleted duplicate templates

2014-04-28 Thread Alexander
After trying to add a new template using the register api call we ended
up with a number of identically named templates stuck. The problem was
that the download URL specified during registration was invalid and
returned a 404 error.

However after fixing the URL we registered the template again and
finally got it all working.

Our problem was that we now ended up with several templates with the
same name and no option to delete them. Everytime we tried to delete
them it failed to remove the templates.

Only after restarting the management server, at which point the
downloads completed successfully, were we able to delete the duplicate
templates.

Re: Problem with VPN - Error 792/789

2014-04-28 Thread Amir Abbasi

Hi,

I've already restarted Network of this account (with clean-up option) but
the problem still persists. One more thing, Static Nat is enabled on this IP
address.

Can I check something in VR machine?

failed to start virtual router

2014-04-28 Thread Ian Young
I upgraded from 4.2.1 to 4.3.0 tonight, following the instructions here:

http://docs.cloudstack.apache.org/projects/cloudstack-release-notes/en/latest/rnotes.html#upgrade-from-4-2-x-to-4-3

At the last step, I tried to restart the system VMs. The virtual router
failed to start. Here is the message that was displayed in the web UI:

Resource [Host:1] is unreachable: Host 1: Unable to start instance due to
Unable to start VM[DomainRouter|r-4-VM] due to error in finalizeStart, not
retrying

I tried running the script to restart the VMs but this time it failed to
start the console proxy:

[root@virthost1 ~]$ cloudstack-sysvmadm -d 192.168.100.6 -u cloud -p -a

Stopping and starting 1 secondary storage vm(s)...
Done stopping and starting secondary storage vm(s)

Stopping and starting 1 console proxy vm(s)...
ERROR: Failed to start console proxy vm with id 2

Done stopping and starting console proxy vm(s) .

Is there a way to wipe the system VMs out and start over?

Documentation question/verification (upgrade from 4.0 to 4.2.1)

2014-04-28 Thread Nick Burke
If this has already been addressed, my apologies, I did do a search first.
:-)

In the documentation located at:

http://cloudstack.apache.org/docs/en-US/Apache_CloudStack/4.2.1/html/Release_Notes/upgrade-instructions.html#upgrade-from-4.0-to-4.2.1

In section 9.a it states:

*This file should have one line, which contains: *

*deb http://cloudstack.apt-get.eu/ubuntu
 precise 4.0*

* We'll change it to point to the new package repository: *

*deb http://cloudstack.apt-get.eu/ubuntu
 precise 4.1*

* If you're using your own package repository, change this line to read as
appropriate for your 4.1.0 repository. *

Is it correct in that I should be using the 4.1 branch for some reason? I
checked in the repo and there is a 4.2 branch. Is it an incremental upgrade
(IE: from 4.0 to 4.1 and then to 4.2) that I missed in the documentation?

Thanks in advance!

Is there any way to force DNSMASQ to try to solve the name with the

Or you can forward realhost.internal to the "app", see for example

I think dnsmasq will read and serve contents from /etc/hosts (check the
config), so if you add all your records there dnsmasq should "resolve"
them.

Yesid,

I assume you are referring to the Recurring Snapsnots, in which case select the
Storage menu option and you will see the list volumes.

Hover over the Quickview '+' for a volume and you will see the 'Setup
Recurring Snapshot' link in the popup window; click that link and in the next
'Recurring Snapshots' window towards the bottom you will see the list of
'Scheduled Snapshots', where you can delete if required.

Best Regards,

RE: Trouble with adding network services

2014-04-28 Thread Geoff Higginbottom
Matthew,

What you want to achieve is very possible, it's just the terms used can be a
little confusing.

I believe you want to create a new network which will assign 'public' IPs
directly to Guest VMs. In CloudStack, the 'Public' network is only used by
System VMs and Virtual Routers so you have to create a new Guest Network which
used a new Public IP Address Range and allow Guest VMs to use it via a Shared
Network.

What you need to do is create a new 'shared' network, which will in fact be a
'guest' network, but the Virtual Router will only provide DHCP, DNS, and
UserData services, and will not act as an actual Router. Routing will be
provided by a physical Router/L3 Switch.

1. Allocate a new IP range and VLAN ID on your network infrastructure which
will pass Internet Live 'public' IPs down to the HyperVisors is a similar way
the CloudStack Public Traffic is handled.
2. Identify which CloudStack Physical Network this VLAN is mapped to, this
will be needed in step 5
3. When creating the new Network, set the scope to either 'All' (every user in
the Zone) or a speciic Account or Domain (I'm guessing you want to use the All
option)
4. Ensure you have chosen the Network Offering of 'Offering for Shared
Networks'
5. Ensure you chose the 'Physical Network' which your new IP range is mapped to
6. Enter the VLAN ID used in step 1
7. Enter the appropriate IP information in the Network Offering, note the IPv4
Gateway will be the IP of the Physical Router/L3 Switch which is terminating
the new Public IP Range

Subject: Trouble with adding network services

OK, I admit that I am lost and do not know what the procedure is to creating a
network service.

I would like to have a public address assigned to my VM's using CS4.3 and
xenserver. I don't need a guest network on this first /28

Can someone tell me the required steps? I've tried and had no luck.
Maybe I'm making this too hard and it should be easy.

I click on Network > Add Guest network

I understand all the options there but the main problem is that on physical
interfaces is only lists one of my guest nic's and not my public one. What do
need to setup so I can select the public nic and then continue with the rest of
the fields as needed.

Sanjeev,

Good suggestion, however if the Hypervisor in question is XenServer, the VM
will not be listed by XenServer unless it is running, and as there appears to
be a problem with CS, Anton cannot actually start the VM, I don’t believe it
will be possible to take the snapshot, unless there is a backdoor hack I am not

RE: Save data from xenserver

2014-04-28 Thread Geoff Higginbottom
Anton,

Assuming you have access to the CloudStack database, identify the ID of the VM
by looking in the vm_instance table, searching for the name of the VM

mysql> SELECT id, name, FROM cloud.vm_instance where name="";

Or if you know the instance name such as i-5-33-VM, the VM ID will be 33 (5 is
the account ID in this example)

Once you know the ID of the VM identify the Volume

mysql> SELECT pool_id, path FROM cloud.volumes where instance_id = 33;

The POOL_ID will tell you which Primary Storage the volume is on (look in the
storage_pool table for details), and the PATH will tell you the name of the
volume.

Then export the volume to a hypervisor not under the control of CloudStack, and
mount it on a running VM, this will then allow you to access the data contained
within it.

RE: How to add Storage tags to current disk offerings

2014-04-28 Thread Geoff Higginbottom
Amir,

Basic steps are:

1, Add tags to the storage you want to keep, then add different tags to the
storage you want to retire
2. Change all Service Offerings, adding the tag you just set on the storage you
want to keep - (this is prevent new VMs being placed on the storage you want to
retire) - Don't forget to update offerings for Virtual Routers and System VMs
3. Migrate all VMs off of the storage you want to retire:
a. If using XenServer 6.2 you can live migrate VMs across different storage
pools
b. If using an older version of XenServer, VMware or KVM you will need to stop
the VM, migrate the Volumes, then restart the VM.
c. Place the store into Maintenance Mode, this will force the migration
(re-creation) of System VMs on alternate storage
4. Once all VMs have been migrated check the storage in the DB to confirm there
are no volumes allocated to it:
a. Identify the ID of the storage pool you want to retire
mysql> SELECT id, name FROM cloud.storage_pool;
b. Append the ID of the storage pool identified in previous step to this SQL
statement, it should return no rows
mysql> SELECT * FROM cloud.volumes WHERE pool_id=; AND removed IS NULL;
5. If step 4 returns any records investigate further as there may be Data
Volumes present on the storage which are no longer assigned to a VM. Either
expunge these Volumes or migrate them to alternate storage.
6. Once step 4a returns no records the storage is no longer being used and you
will be able to remove it from CloudStack. Ensure all Hosts which are using
the storage are online so that CloudStack can un-mount the storage from east
Host.
7. Optionally remove the Tags added in steps 1&2 from remaining Storage Pools
and Service Offerings.

I want to remove older Primary storage, so I should add tags to storages and
then remove old disk offerings. Will that affct attached volumes to VM's?

RE: Frequent NFS not responding, timed out issue

2014-04-28 Thread Hung Nguyen The
Thanks Shanker. I don't have total control on the system and it lacks a proper
monitoring system.

After some more investigations we believe the high latency is due to to
openvswitch, and some VMs are flooding packets.
Some tunings have done like increase Flow-Eviction-thresthold and the network
is now much more stable.
That would be greate if someone can guide me somewhere with information
regarding improve performance of open vswitch on Xenserver 6.2
Btw, OVS is 1.4.6 version.

Hi Shanker,
Thanks for your comment. I am trying to figure out why the network latency is
high.

I would like to know how you determined that the network latency is high. Did
you do some kind of ping test? If so, does the latency change during peak /
non-peak times?

Real metrics would be useful to identify patterns.

It is good to know if the issue with 10Gbps is no longer the case.

Goes back to the availability of metrics. :)

I am not sure whether there is a problem with the physical switch (IBM Flex
switch) or something has to do with the driver of network card.

At the risk of sounding like a broken record, do you have metrics for your
network?

I usually deploy a central collectd poller to pull SNMP information for all
devices and XenServers.

I attached with the NIC info and driver version. I don’t know if this is the
latest version or not.

You will need to check XenServer site / Citrix for the details I guess.

Regards.

Would you have any monitoring running of the network itself? SNMP information
collected from the switches and the physical network interfaces of the various
devices on the network would be helpful to narrow down the issue.

Most likely there is saturation somewhere.

Try to get access to the network level metrics to debug further.

:) already tried adding JAVA_OPTIONS="-Xmx1124M" to the init.d script, but
