Correction the icon still shows for me when ldap is configured. You just
get a message popup.

No problems upgrading my non production cloudstack 4.3.0-1 implementation using
KVM on CentOS 6.5 after following these instructions. I use NFS for storage.

http://cloudstack-release-notes.readthedocs.org/en/latest/upgrade/upgrade-4.3.html

The packages are getting bigger and bigger so it takes a long time doing the
install/upgrade over the internet but other than that, no problems. I was able
to create new instances and migrate them with no issues or errors. I have not
noticed any gui issues either but I'll see when others start using it.

This was actually the least problematic upgrade i've had so far.

Re: cloudstack_api_key and cloudstack_api_secret

2014-05-23 Thread Antone Heyward
The way I have been able to get this is by:
1. enabling the integration api port using a sql query.
2. using the api to generate the keys using
http://cloudmanagementserver:8096/client/api?command=registerUserKeysid=2response=json”
 — Notice id=2, this is base on me knowing what the admin user id will be
ahead of time. You could also listusers to get the id as well.
3. parse the returned json to get the apikey and secretkey.
4. i disable the integration api port using a sql query.
5. now i can do everything over 8080 securely.

Hope that helps a bit.

  A possible way to approach this;

  1) install ACS to the point of a working management head
  (e.g., you can login using webgui.)

  2) use API call authenticated with login/password and the
  default admin credentials setup at first install to generate
  keys and get them

  3) continue using API calls using key based authentication

  CloudMonkey in recent releases was enhanced to support
  login/password based auth. The Marving test framework in
  recent ACS versions uses an API backend that support
  login/password based auth.

  There is also the integration port with non authenticated
  API calls. This is not enabled by default. A variant is to
  install MGR-head, stop it, modify DB to allow integration
  port access*, start MGR-head and work with the integration
  port for further non authenticated configuration to get
  authenticated API access going.

  /Ove

  * set the global parameter governing which port the
  integration port is on to non NULL.

Re: getting Unauthorized: None with cloudmonkey

2014-05-19 Thread Antone Heyward
I’m a bit embarrassed to say that my issue turned out to be related to the date
 time on my client was not correct. So the “expires” parameter, sent by the
cli, was a day behind the time on the mgmt server. I would have thought the
integration api port would not work as well but that’s not the case because I
assume security is not a big concern when using the integration api port. There
was no need to modify anything other time on my client to get this working.

Thanks for all the help and sorry for the oversight.

 A problem we have experienced with cloudmonkey 5.1.0 in our CloudStack
 platform (4.2.1) is that the GET request sent via HTTP contains the
 argument
 apikey=...
 but our API server will only respond to
 apiKey=...

 So if you edit the cloudmonkey source 'requester.py' at line 146, you
 change

 args['apikey'] = ...

 to

 args['apiKey'] = ...

 I have not got to the bottom of why this changed in cloudmonkey, or
 whether/why different versions of the CS API code work with apikey,
 apiKey or both. Does anyone know??

 You do also need to add lines to the cloudmonkey config file:

 [user]
 username=
 password=

 [server]
 expires=600

 (these relate to added functions for authentication, and blocking
 malicious attacks)

 If you have a proxy server on the front of your actual server then you
 could add a check so that apikey or apiKey will work.

  Try this wacky thing:

  -edit your cloud monkey config file
  -remove the username/password entries (which are probably blank)
  -enter username = and password = lines after your api keys

I have setup the host, port, username, apikey, and secretkey but when I try

*Unauthorized:* None

Failed to sync apis, please check your config?

*Note:* `sync` requires api discovery service enabled on the CloudStack
management server

Has anyone else seen this?

Try deploying cloudstack with cldstk-deploy on github.

Re: using cldstk-dploy with proxy

2014-05-14 Thread Antone Heyward
It should work as long as yum is configured to work using the proxy but
this has not been tested. I be interested in your feedback if you test it.

The cldstk-deploy tool is for the most automating the installation using
ansible. There is also what I call a local installation type which
creates a webserver/repo using nodejs but that's only for the cloudstack
packages and systemtemplate to speed up multi system installs. You still
need the Internet though for yum to install other packages and
dependancies.

 I don't know the script in detail just briefly glanced over it.

 It looks like it should work if you

 1) Set the proxy for yum. Modify /etc/yum.conf add in
 proxy=http://whatever:port
 2) Modify /etc/bashrc and do exports for http_proxy and https_proxy
 3) Modify /etc/wgetrc and do http_proxy=http://whatever:port and use_proxy

Re: New to CS, some prep questions

2014-03-26 Thread Antone Heyward
I’d agree with Nux and use VM for management server. This works well and lends
nicely to scaling up and out as needed.

I use compute/storage nodes with glusterfs and shared mount point but this
could be overkill or waste of storage capacity if you don’t want or need the
added redundancy.

 As for local storage, so you're local as in it's own dedicated server,
 outside the HV (CPU/Memory) server correct?

 Thanks for the response. I actually forgot to include one serve for

 as an HA server (high availability)?

 You can use local storage, I would actually recommend it if you want SSDs,
 but there is no way to achieve HA with local storage, you need it shared.

 Server #2
 Purpose: Hypervisors (CPU + Memory + Storage)
 Qty: 1 plus 1 for failover (HA)
 Dual Hexacore CPUs
 128GB RAM
 12 x 1TB SAS (or SSD) RAID1
 *above drives is for main storage, I know is pricey, but it's only for
 an example*

 I'd go for RAID10 in this case.

 Be advised, all this is IMHO, YMMV.
