Re: **SPAM** Glusterfs vs CEPH

2019-07-30 Thread Vahric MUHTARYAN
I'm not a cloudstack guy, but used CEPH and tested Glusterfs in openstack
environment
As a block point of view I recommend GlusterFs because of performance
Of course because of IO types or hardware types many things can depend but if
you are dealing with a lot of small io and want to get performance try gluster

Or is the performance of CEPH so much better than Gluster?

I suggest you to look EMC scaleio for block based operations. It has a free one
too ! And as a block working better then Ceph ;)

Hi Ivan,

Thank you for your quick reply.

I'll have a look on Ceph and related perfs.
As you mentionned, 2 DRDB nfs servers can do the job, but if I can avoid
using 2 blades for just passing blocks to nfs, this is even better (and
maintain them as well).

Thanks for pointing to ceph.

Hi, Grégoire,
You could have
- local storage if you like, so every compute node could have own space
(one lun per host)
- to have Ceph deployed on the same compute nodes (distribute raw devices
among nodes)
- to dedicate certain node as NFS server (or two servers with DRBD)

I don't think that shared FS is a good option, even clustered LVM is a big
pain.

Re: CS Storage best practices

2013-11-18 Thread Vahric Muhtaryan
Hello Pascal ,

Primary storage depend what you want or offer, if you have a money get fc
hba get fc storage or use ssd storages for high performance
If you need automation use supported storages like netapp , solid fire
If you are open to open world use ceph could be very interesting with
QEMU/KVM

About secondary storage use and nfs storage linux or official ones
Another options S3 interfaced storages

You can use basho riak cs

Myself we will use nfs server for secondary optimising s3 based storage
could be problem (for now, no experiences i have)

So.. do you have any ideas for internet usage measurements by costumer

Re: Compute offerings and Templates

2013-11-17 Thread Vahric Muhtaryan
Why don¹t you create a portal and allow to end users choose their
requirements and send it to ACS via API , then you can achieve what you
want
Maybe its not it ACS but Citrix also provide another software which is
cloud portal business manager which is do everything for you, you can
bundle related compute + storage and network offering as a bundle
Sorry, i¹m thinking when i wrote something add some notes on offerings for
example Storage Offering #1 - EMC VMAX (High I/O) (Not for Xen Server) :)
hehheheh

the template selected does not support the hypervisor in the host tag.

For example, I have both xenserver and vmware. I have defined a compute
offering with a storage tag for Fibrechannel storage that is not
available on xenserver but you can still choose that compute offering
after selecting a xenserver template which will make an undeployable
situation. Perhaps I am not using host/storage tags properly but they
seem to be functioning as intended. I am trying to make the deployment
process as simple as possible for the end user and not allow them to
choose incompatible offerings. I fully admit that I may be looking at
this wrong and am looking for some guidance on setting up the offerings.
I have the following defined and it seems kind of a mess.

Vmware-
Storage Offering #1 - EMC VMAX (High I/O)
Storage Offering #2 - EMX VNX (Standard I/O)
Storage Offering #3 - EMC ISOLON (NFS/Replicated)

XenServer Storage Offering #1 - EMC AX (Standard I/O)
  Storage Offering #2 - EMC ISOLON (NFS/Replicated)

Re: ACS4.2: Unable to add Primary Storage

2013-11-11 Thread Vahric Muhtaryan
Hello,
Did you add the primary as a preconfigured ?
Or choosing the NFS as a primary storage ?

Also find this words

KVM supports Shared Mountpoint storage. A shared mountpoint is a file
system path local to each server in a given cluster. The path must be the
same across all Hosts in the cluster, for example /mnt/primary1. This
shared mountpoint is assumed to be a clustered filesystem such as OCFS2.
In this case the CloudStack does not attempt to mount or unmount the
storage as is done with NFS. The CloudStack requires that the
administrator insure that the storage is available

Wondering KVM

2013-11-11 Thread Vahric Muhtaryan
Hello All ,

Sorry for this stupid question but i really wonder why KVM is used or trying
to use as a hypervisor option. (Sorry for out of scope of this list) but try
to learn people understandings, also i do not want to say do not use it :D
Mostly third party supported hypervisor is vmware
XenServer and Hyper-v is i guess mostly third party supported hypervisors
Then i can see the KVM , because of mostly IBM focus on it

My point of view ;
Using iscsi, FC is a problem because need shared mount point
No internal DRS or WLB or kind of distributing algorithm.
Backup , no any 3th party software i know support KVM
If we start to talk about Disaster Recovery finding solution should be very
hard
If its free Citrix XenServer is free

I¹m confusing when i think all , i don¹t know any performance pluses then
the other hypervisors but i don¹t know how to compare it with all such
parameters
Of course every people have their own ideas but could you pls share it to
understand better.

VM

Looks like deployment planner is like intelligent placement on Hyper-v or

First we can not find explanations of implicitdedicationplanner and bare
metal planner , any one know about it ?

Second what is planner mode ? What is relation between deployment planner

mode too ?

Maybe sounds like stupid but , another thing is we can not imagine some
deployment planners, for example if we are running cloud and have a
resource, default behaviour should be spread everything almost equal , why
people want to put vms depend same account on same pod/cluster or what
happen if i have small number of vm on host but there is high resource usage
on that hosts. For example KVM do not have an option like vmware drs , how
cloudstack handle spread of vms on KVM cluster ?

want to use a specific hardware for their applications.

CloudStack currently supports firstfit, user-pod-concentrated,
user-dispersing strategies. Using the user-dispersing, spread of VMs of
the same account can be achieved.
But a generic spread-evenly strategy is not available, please feel free

Bot size very different , which one i have to use , or which one are you

storage connectivity between Xen servers and cloudstack management server.
We configured secondary storage and got no any error on UI.

We are wondering where this url should be mounted ? Means if we execute

Secondary Storage is mounted manually on the Management Server only when

The Host will auto mount secondary storage when it needs to copy a
template to Primary Storage, it will then auto un-mount secondary
storage. You will not see this in XenCenter, but can monitor it from the
file system.
