Use with abandon - I like those badges, and I'd like to see more of them
sprinkled around. In fact, I need to put one on shiningsilence.com.

Thanks.

I have networking working now, and I'm installing Apache.

Once I have my "Dragonflies on DragonFly" website set up, may I use
the "Powered by DragonFly" bade 3 from the images site on it?

Here is an example for /etc/rc.conf. Substitute correct IP and

OK.

How do I configure my ethernet card for a static IP address? I
understand the ifconfig command, but it looks like I have to ignore
that and put ifconfig_rl0="something-or-other" in /etc/rc.conf. And I
don't know what the something-or-other should be.

Colin, I don't think you need the installer for configuring your system.
All of it can be done conveniently from the running system, most of it
in /etc/rc.conf (see M.Neumann's mail e.g.).

The installer is not quite ready to be run from a running system nicely.
I will work on this in some time. It's just not quite there yet.

So I found the thread in question (I think). the advice was to to
ALT-Fn too look for a X server that is working. But I just find plain
ttys.

I tried both before and after logging in to installer.

Start the installer from X and not from the console.  Then it should
 work.

My students here faced the same problem.  Most of them downloaded the
GUI DVD version and tried to install DragonFly from the first console
and this failed, of course.  When can we roll a 2.2.1/$whatever version?
This bug is really annoying and most new users hit them (at least in my
experience with a CS course here).

remember now, try change consoles after log as instaler, i remember i

No idea, but the env(1)[1] changes must be back ported first, in order
to be able
to build 2.2.x versions under -current.

Was this after booting from live DVD or from Hard disk? Did you just
login as installer or login as root and type installer?

Neither option does anything for me (after pressing ALT-F2 to get to a
second console).
