You can install "nautilus-open-terminal" package: browse to DEBS folder
in nautilus and right-click on it and choose "open in terminal" (then
type sudo dpkg -i *.deb in terminal, and do the same for the
desktop-integration folder)

Thanks Michel, that was a good suggestion. However, it doesn't work, and the
reason is that Alt+V produces a strange symbol which looks a little like a left
arrow, and it doesn't appear that this can be removed. I note, incidentally,
that the Ctrl key does not have many symbols associated with it, but I can't
see how to call the Crtl key in the keyboard shortcuts.

Re: [libreoffice-users] How to install the latest 3.3 beta under Ubuntu Linux

2010-11-09 Thread David Nelson
Hi Andy, hi Craig :-)

Thank you both for your kind and so-quick answers. :-) Other future
readers of this thread please note that:

1) On Ubuntu 10.10, debi does not get installed by default.
Right-clicking on a .deb file in Nautilus will prompt you to open it
with the Ubuntu Software center. I found it simpler and quicker to use
dpkg.

2) When you unpack the archive, you get a directory called "en-US".
Change directory to the directory "DEBS" within that directory. Then
run the command Andy recommended (but without the trailing "s" in his
post):

sudo dpkg -i *.deb

Enter your root user's password.

dpkg does all the installation work.

Then change directory to the "desktop-integration" directory and again
run the command:
sudo dpkg -i *.deb

After that, you're done.

Re: [libreoffice-users] How to install the latest 3.3 beta under Ubuntu Linux

2010-11-09 Thread Craig B. Olofson

David;

I usually install .deb packages using the included gui GDebi installer.
The filetype is already set to be opened automatically by the installer, so:

1. Launch Nautilus
2. Navigate to the .deb file
3. Click on the .deb

(and GDebi should launch automagically). More on GDebi here:

gdebi is a simple tool to install deb files. It lets you install local
deb packages resolving and installing its dependencies. apt does the
same, but only for remote (http, ftp) located package repositories.
It has a graphical user interface but can also be used in your terminal.

hope that helps,
-Craig

Start a terminal session. CD to the DEBS directory that was created
when you extracted the archive. Run sudo dpkg -i *.debs . When that
is done CD to the desktop-integration directory and run the command again.

That is it.

Mac OSX 10.6.4 OOo 3.2.1 LibO 3.3 beta1

I read recently, either here or over in OOo, about a key combination to paste
unformatted text in Writer. The combination was Cmd+Alt+Shift+V. Cmd+Shift+V
calls up the same as Edit/Paste Special, which gives a window with the choice
of Formatted Text (RTF) or Unformatted Text, but Cmd+Alt+Shift+V goes straight
to the insertion of unformatted text.

I have so far not been able to find where it was that this was referenced,
since I seem to remember that it was something of an aside in the thread.

My question is: can this be made the default for Cmd+V instead of the current
default of Paste Special/Formatted Text (RTF)? I have tried
Tools/Options/Keyboard, and I can see that, beside Cmd+V it says Paste
Unformatted Text, but it doesn't.

I can also see, when I choose Category:Edit and Function: Paste Unformatted
Text, that it now shows ⇑❖^V (where the ❖ symbol is the nearest I can come to
the Cmd symbol) and ❖V as alternatives. However, only the full four-character
shortcut works. [Incidentally in my book, ^V is Ctrl+V not Alt+V but
Cmd+Ctrl+Shift+V just beeps, and Cmd+Alt+Shift+V actually does the job.]

Two questions:

1. How can I get Cmd+V to paste unformatted text?
2. Can I make this the default behaviour for Cmd+V in Writer?

TIA

//James

I am not sure you can do that on a Windows platform and I don't really
want to mess things here, but here are two suggestions.

1. There are a few commands that are defined for LibreOffice as a whole,
and cmd-V is one of them. At the very least, you would have to remove
cmd-V as a global command and then – and only then – you will be able to
replace it with "Paste unformatted". However, I see a few caveats in
doing so:
– Will it work if you try to copy and paste between different modules in
LibreOffice (ex.: some Calc data in Writer)? You cannot define "Paste
unformatted" as a LibreOffice-wide command because it only exists in
Writer (it's slightly different in Calc and very different in Draw), and
if you define different shortcuts in each application, I really don't
know how your system will work.
– I wonder if cmd-V isn't defined in Windows itself. I know that Apple
defines it in the OS itself. So maybe you cannot defeat it.
– Maybe another solution would be helpful. I, for one, have reassigned
Paste unformatted to Alt-V. It's not the same, but it is easy to use.

[libreoffice-users] Re: [users] Presenter Console doesn't start on vanilla 3.3 builds, rc4 included (impressaccessibility5_DEV300)

2010-11-09 Thread Carlo Strata

Hi Everyone,

I just want to tell you that I have just tested the new OOo linux x86-64
rc4 and the Presenter Console 1.0.3 (linux x86-64) doesn't start yet!

It's a very pity! It's a very pro tool!

Libò confirmed to run it very well: it's now time to join efforts!!!

I also note that the first time you run the presentation, pressing "esc"
key doesn't finish it: the second time the esc key press does
finish/terminate the presentation.

We are human beings: we can take decisions and change things, cannot we?
