This means it is likely an issue with ibus settings. Can you try installing
some other language like Chinese or Korean and try typing with those in
LibreOffice?

Also, do you use key bindings? Mine invokes ibus with Ctrl-Space.

P.S.* *I use Kiten as my dictionary.

[libreoffice-users] local/regional cable office uses[ed] OpenOffice.

2011-04-22 Thread webmaster for Kracked Press Productions

I had to deal with a tech guy from my local/regional cable [and
Internet] company. He told me, after I started in on my free software
chatter, that they use OpenOffice. I told him about Oracle dropping
their support of it after LibreOffice came out in its big splash.

I told him that LibreOffice's first release was much better than the
same release of OOo and the 100's of articles that claim the same thing.

I told him that if they wanted, I would freely provide them with the NA
DVD, but gave him a printout with the URLs on how to find LibreOffice.
He told me he would get the message to the IT people about Oracle no
longer supporting OOo and that LibreOffice may be the way to go from
here on out. I also told him that LibreOffice's menus look the same as
OOo and work with the same file types. But, I also told him that it
works better that OOo.

I think this was another case of a company not having the resources to
keep using MSO when they need the money to increase their physical
cable/net/digital-phone network [hardware and software].

This is another example on talking to someone about something else, and
then letting them know about you not wanting/affording to use paid
software and one of your solutions is using LibreOffice as you office
suite.

I was surprised that they already went to OOo, but it is good that they
are now thinking about Open-Source software to fill their needs.

Just for the record. The cable company's parent is Time-Warner - owner
of CNN and many other media companies. I wonder how far up the company
chain does the use of OOo goes? It would be nice if it went all the way
to the main corporate center in Atlanta Georgia.

[libreoffice-users] ODF format validity

2011-04-22 Thread Milos Sramek
Hi,

I want to point to a problem regarding validity of the ODF documents
produced by LO.
The http://www.officeshots.org/galleries web page offers numerous test
files for validity checking - it looks like the worst results are
obtained by LO (no single valid file), while other programs passed all
(abiword) or nearly all (MSOffice) tests.

I verified that also by sending a random file to
http://tools.odftoolkit.org/odfvalidator/: A file produced by LO
resulted in many times more errors than a file created by MSOffice2010.
Perhaps these are not big bugs - but may become a a BIG argument against
using LO in, say public administration.

What do you think about that?
Thanks
Milos

[libreoffice-users] Help with header and cell backgrounds

2011-04-22 Thread Daetrin Nickname
I just recently upgraded from OpenOffice 2.1 to LibreOffice, and
everything is going pretty well except for two UI issues which I can't
figure out how to fix. I've checked the Help and the FAQs but nothing
seems to cover it, so i thought i'd subscribe to the mailing list and
see if anyone can help.

The short version:

How do i change the background of the column and row headers to a single color?
AND
How do i make grid lines show up in cells with a background color set?

The long version, what's wrong and why it's a problem for me:

First, the background for the row and column headers used to be a
single solid grey color. Now in LibreOffice the background is divided
in half. It's like a dark grey frame has been added to the entire
spreadsheet. The right half of each column header is a darker grey
than the left half, and the bottom half of each row header is the same
darker grey. (The extra box to the left of the row headers and above
the column headers is dark gray in the lower right corner, connecting
the "frame.")

This looks ugly to me compared to the old solid light grey
backgrounds, but more importantly it often makes it hard for me to
read the numbers in the column header with the divider for the two
background halves going right down the middle. Maybe it's just because
i've got poor eyesight but it's definitely detracting from the
usability of LibreOffice for me.

Second, it used to be that when i applied a background color to a
range of cells that the grid lines between the cells were still
visible. After upgrading all i see is a solid block of color with no
lines separating the cells. Not only does this hurt my eyes, it also
sometimes makes it difficult to tell exactly where each cell begins
and ends, and in larger blocks it can be hard to tell exactly which
row and column a particular piece of data is in. (And yes, the grid
lines are showing up just fine along cells with no background color so
it's not because i haven't checked the "Grid lines" option or anything
like that, and changing the grid line color doesn't make a difference,
nor does changing the color of the background.)

Between these two issues it makes it much harder for me to read my
spreadsheets in LibreOffice than it was in OpenOffice, and I'd really
like to know how to fix both issues.

Thanks!

There is nothing you can do. This came up since the fork and has not be
fixed yet. It may have been corrected for the 3.4 release but I do not
know for sure.

I'm currently using XP. My Options->LibreOffice->View settings are:

Scaling: 100%
Icon size and style: Automatic, Automatic (Tango)
Icons in menus: Automatic
Mouse positioning: No automatic positioning
Middle mouse button: Automatic scrolling
Transparency: 75%
And all checkboxes are checked.

I just tried unchecking all the checkboxes and it didn't seem to make
a difference.

This is with build 3.3.2 OOO330m19 (Build:202)

Let me try attaching a screenshot. It shows both problems even though
only the header one is relevant.

I just tried unchecking all the checkboxes and it didn't seem to make

This is with build 3.3.2 OOO330m19 (Build:202)

Let me try attaching a screenshot. It shows both problems even though
only the header one is relevant.

The list do not allow attachments so you need to use somewhere like
Dropbox or Mediafire to place the files then put a link in your message.

Re: [libreoffice-users] ODF format validity

2011-04-22 Thread Vit
Dear Wayne!

Most of the files I've checked, when found this thread are producing the
error:
upload:///text1.odt/META-INF/manifest.xml[2,88]:Error:element
"manifest:manifest" is missing "version" attribute
If you are interested, I can also give some files which do not pass validation
because of different unexpected attributes. The files are mostly generated by
editing docs and saving as odf. Can I sent them on your e-mail bypassing
mailing list?

Victor
