Success seems to be hit or miss with 3.3.x. I have heard reports that 3.4.0 has better success opening .docx formats but I have not confirmed this. I have seen macro generated documents in particular be very troublesome with 3.3.x. LO 3.4.0 is not all the repositories yet so I do not know if you can currently upgrade with Suse or if you wish to try downloading it and installing. I check the Ubuntu repository and the current LO release is 3.3.2 and I am not sure when 3.4.0 will be pushed out. -- Jay Lozier jsloz...@gmail.com -- Unsubscribe instructions: E-mail to users+h...@libreoffice.org In case of problems unsubscribing, write to postmas...@documentfoundation.org Posting guidelines + more: http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Netiquette List archive: http://listarchives.libreoffice.org/www/users/ All messages sent to this list will be publicly archived and cannot be deleted
[libreoffice-users] infinite pagination loop on open of docx
Hi, I attempt to open a 53 page .docx document (from MS Office 2010) with LibreOffice 3.3.1 (Suse Linux 11.2). The document opens (shows "Page 1/53" in the lower left corner) and is pretty much readable but then if I scroll down a couple of pages, its interface will freeze and in the lower left corner where it did show "Page 1/53" the "53" is an ever increasing number. I let it get up to about 8000 once before I killed the program to make it stop. Once, it froze the KDE GUI. I had to ctrl-alt-F1 to get to a console login and kill LibreOffice with the bash kill command. It does the same thing if I try to export the file as a PDF. The document does have some complicated diagrams. Perhaps they are throwing it. I just want to read this document. No immediate need to edit it. Any clues as to settings or options to keep the page counter from going ballistic when I open this thing? If you're using CUPS, USB permission issues should happen on the CUPS side, or probably udev. (At least for the [Brother] scanner part you need to add some udev rules, and these might get overwritten by some system update.) But as your problem is only with a specific version of a specific program (LibreOffice), I seriously doubt USB permissions are the issue. Does LibO even attempt to print? Check the CUPS log at /var/log/cups/error_log and see if it mentions the job you're trying to print (just go to the end of file and check the last lines). The log here mentions jobs, even if there is no error (yes, in a file called error_log). But of course this might depend on CUPS verbosity settings. Sorry for not providing feedback on printing with 3.4.0, I don't have that version around here. -- Nuno J. Re: [libreoffice-users] Request for Technical assistance.
Hi :) Answer are often given at the bottom of threads rather than at the top so it's worth checking there if there appears to be no answer in a reply. From what i have seen here so far i think that downloading and saving the attachment before trying to open it might work better. Also when you next try to open LibreOffice if it asks if you want to attempt to recover a document click on "cancel" or "no" or whatever to avoid trying to recover the document. Then you should be able to open normal documents in LibreOffice again. Good luck and regards from Tom :) - Original Message > From: Ruth C. Re: [libreoffice-users] Multuple rules/conditions to range of cells
Hi :) You should be able to just double-click on documents that were written in Word and they should just open in LibreOffice now. If not then right-click on the Word file and choose "Open with ..." and then find LibreOffice or Writer in the list. It is smart to create a back-up copy before doing something unfamiliar just in case something unexpected happens. So that was still a smart move. Please note that a lot of people on this list like to post their answers at the bottom of a thread. So Sigrid's idea is worth trying. Re: [libreoffice-users] Re: Native MySQL-connection
Hello Roland, In Debian Squeeze deleting /tmp is supposedly controlled by setting TMPTIME=x in /etc/default/rcS. "0" means - delete /tmp, a negative number means don't ever delete it, while a positive number indicates the number of days till deletion. By the way - even though I reverted to using the odbc-connection to MySQL (it works just fine), I tried to install libreoffice-mysql-connector. In doing so, it "broke" my LibreOffice system (I couldn't open ANY files anymore!). The reason seems to be the Libre..-connector goes together with 3.3.2, while I had 3.4.0 installed. I obiously ended up with a "mixed-up" system. So, for me - it's odbc for the moment... [libreoffice-users] Problem in 3.4.0 - external links in CALC
Hi, on WIN XP i had installed LO 3.4.0. and there occured this problem: I have several files - Comp1report.ods with sheets Data,Param, report - Comp2report.ods with sheets Data,Param, report - Comp3report.ods with sheets Data,Param, report (each file has a range A1:E30 named as "Report" in the "report" sheet) and - Companies.ods with sheets C1,C2,C3,Group In Companies.ods I have named ranges C1Report in C1 sheet, C2Report in C2 sheet, C3Report in C3 sheet I used to select the range "Report" in the "report" sheet of the Comp1report.ods file by expanding the select box, then CTRL+C, then switched to Companies.ods, selected the proper range C1Report to delete the old contents and pasted as unformated text. In 3.4.0. when Companies.ods and Comp1report.ods are open the names of named ranges of Companies.ods disappeared and only a range named "Report" (which is in the other file) is displayed in the select box. After closing the files and reopening Companies.ods the range names appeared again in the select box correctly. I had to uninstall 3.4.0 and reinstal 3.3.2 due another problem with linking to external .ods files (which bug I am not able to describe with my poor english). Again I had a problem with renamed linked sheet - when I need to repair link to some external sheet I can only choose the filename but not the sheet. Best regards, Ing. [libreoffice-users] Re: Consistent 3.4.0 crash in Calc when Linking to External Data
Full clean install did not fix the problem. The exception apparently occurs in MSVCR90.DLL, the Visual C++ 2008 runtime library. The version of that DLL is different between my 32-bit WinXP system and the 64-bit Win7 AMD system, which might explain why it's not failing on the Win7. It looks like LibreOffice requires at least version 9.0.30729.4148 (LibreOffice install bundle includes an installer for it, if required), and I have version 9.0.30729.5570, because of the MS security update relating to KB246174. I did try backing off that newer version of MSVCR90.DLL, so that LibreOffice was using the 4148 version, but it still crashed. Is anyone else seeing this problem? I might have to go back to 3.3.2 until this is fixed. -- View this message in context: http://nabble.documentfoundation.org/Consistent-3-4-0-crash-in-Calc-when-Linking-to-External-Data-tp3026245p3029860.html Sent from the Users mailing list archive at Nabble.com. -- Unsubscribe instructions: E-mail to users+h...@libreoffice.org In case of problems unsubscribing, write to postmas...@documentfoundation.org Posting guidelines + more: http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Netiquette List archive: http://listarchives.libreoffice.org/www/users/ All messages sent to this list will be publicly archived and cannot be deleted

plino wrote: > > But as you said, I really don't want to browse 300.000 lines to spot > errors ;) > Hi plino, for your specific case I might have a possible workaround. The following formula (place it in any cell) would give you the row number for the first non-numeric value in the range A1:A3. {= MIN(IF(ISNUMBER(A1:A3), "ALL GOOD", ROW(A1:A3)))} Do not explicitly the curly braces, they appear automatically. It must be entered as an array function, therefore press CTRL+SHIFT+ENTER to accept the formula, not just ENTER. Change the 2 references (A1:A3) to the cells you want to check. If you've corrected the value (i.e. went to the row where the non-numeric value appears and made it numeric) then it will refer to the next non-numeric row. This way you can systematically address each issue (if there aren't too many). It's not a solution for the problem, just a workaround. Nevertheless, I hope it helps. Darkguy didn't mention Internet Explorer, what crashes is Windows Explorer. Although since windows 98 (or 95?) they're closely connected, sharing some parts, they're not the same thing. Unless you're running some alternative shell, you need explorer.exe to be running in order to use the windows GUI. (Also, IIRC, IE's executable is iexplore.exe, not explorer.exe.) -- Nuno J. Re: [libreoffice-users] [Bug] LibreOffice 3.4.0 - Explorer crashes
Hi :) That is worth posting a bug-report about http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/BugReport Obviously it's better practice to minimise the number of things that automatically start at boot-up but users can be a bit strange sometimes and we should be able to cater to that. FireFox or almost any other web-browser tends to be much more robust, safer and faster. I've not tried IE9 yet, nor FF4 so things might have radically changed. Also Firefox tends to look similar across releases whereas IE keeps changing quite dramatically without changing it's under-laying security flaws in any helpful way. So, once people have got past the initial terrors of using something they are unfamiliar with they are well set for the future. The various 'skins'/add-ons allow people to get a UI they are more comfortable with anyway. However, none of that is really the point. LO 'should' be able to work without messing up IE as there are still a lot of people using it so a bug-report would be a big help. Re: [libreoffice-users] Multuple rules/conditions to range of cells
Hi :) The "Insert>Images etc" refers to the menus at the top of the Writer window. Note that the menus at the top are File EditViewInsertHelp So click on the Insert menu. The menu drops down and contains similar items grouped together rather than being alphabetical. The various "Picture" (or "Image" in other releases and Word i guess) are near the bottom. "Object" just below it is for video or sound. If you select "Picture" then a sub-menu appears offering "From File" or "Scan ...". The "Scan ... " option is for scanner/printers so you probably want the "From file" choice. A 'pop-up' 'dialogue box' will appear so that you can navigate to the picture/image you want to include. Some of the terms are quite geeky but if you follow the instructions then you will quickly understand what they mean. Good luck and regards from Tom :) - Original Message > From: Lynn Wilde > To: users@libreoffice.org > Sent: Mon, 6 June, 2011 8:19:26 > Subject: Re: [libreoffice-users] Multuple rules/conditions to range of cells > > Thank you so much, Jean-Francois. Hello Lynn, On Sun, 5 Jun 2011 22:32:20 -0700 (PDT) (your time) you said: > I don't know why I got this e-mail. Please don't send me such e-mails again. As Jean-Francois has already replied, you received my message reply because you subscribed to the LibreOffice mailing list. So it was not my intention to SPAM you ;-), but then it is not within my power to prevent you receiving replies made to this list so you'll have to unsubscribe from the list if you don't want to receive any replies from me again. :-) > I do have a question. [...] Although Jean-Francois has already replied to your question, when (or if) you ask another question you would really be better off starting a new thread rather than replying to an existing one. When you reply to an existing thread that has a specific question in the message subject line your own question would inevitably become 'lost' in a thread that was started to ask a different question. That's because each email message sent contains a unique message ID which email clients are able to use to 'thread' related messages. If you reply to an existing message and the subject line is unmodified no one will know that your reply doesn't relate to to the original question, and if mailing list users are ignoring a thread your question may be ignored as well. Am 05.06.2011 18:47, PLO wrote: Hello LO Users, I've been trying - without success - to apply five separate conditional formatting rule to a column based on their value. Each of the 365 cells in the column contain a simple formula. E.g =SUM((N151+L152)-(P152+R152)) I need the result in each of the cells to be formatted in different colour if it is over or below a certain value. I need five rules in total. So formatting would be: < 1000 Red/Bold => 1000< 2001Red => 2001< 3001Blue/Bold => 3001< 4001Blue => 4001< 5001Orange => 5001 Default I have used conditional formatting with success, except that it is limited to three conditions...which isn't enough. In MS Office 2007 I can apply any number of rules to a range of cells simply by selecting Conditional Formatting from 'Styles' on the Ribbon and adding a rule for each. Maybe there is another way in LibreOffice but I can't find it. This requires some preparing set up work. 1. Create a set of 5 cell styles comprising the attributes you want to see. (hit F11, right-click>New...) 2. Take some free cell range of 6 rows and 2 columns, say $X$1:$Y$5. 0 Red_Bold 1000Red 2000Blue_Bold 3000Blue 4000Orange 5000Default First column has threashold values, second column has your style names which represent the formatting attributes you want to see up to the respective threashold. 3. Select the cell range you want to color. Notice the row number of the currently active input cell. 4. menu:Format>Conditional... Change to for condition #1. Formula: STYLE(VLOOKUP($H1;$X$1:$X$6;2)) (assuming the active cell in row #1, compare values in column H and the compare list in X1:X6). For the active cell in row 99 and your compare values in column M the formula would be: STYLE(VLOOKUP($M99;$X$1:$X$6;2)) Greetings, Andreas -- Unsubscribe instructions: E-mail to users+h...@libreoffice.org In case of problems unsubscribing, write to postmas...@documentfoundation.org Posting guidelines + more: http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Netiquette List archive: http://listarchives.libreoffice.org/www/users/ All messages sent to this list will be publicly archived and cannot be deleted

Thank you so much, Jean-Francois. The only information given about joining this was that I could post a question, nothing was said about receiving e-mails of every question posted. If that had been made clear, I would not have joined. Your answer to my question, I'm afraid, makes no sense to me because I do not know where I should look for "Insert>Images, etc." original MS Word document or the one I copied to Libre Office? With the original document, as I changed picture sizes, the whole document reformatted to accommodate changes. In the Lib. Off one I have only black boxes with red lettering inside showing some type of designation for each picture. Can you clarify your response considering the above information?
