Re: [libreoffice-users] Multiple select field in Base forms
Hi :) I think it helps to use an external back-end rather than the default internal one. It sounds as though you need a few tiny tables that have a set relationship to the main table. One of the sub-tables would have just 2 columns; one for Id/key/reference-number and one that lists the option you mentioned (vocal parts, church season, instruments). Then in the main table one column would have a relationship of 1-to-many (err, i think that way around? or would it be 1-to-1?) with the key of that sub-table. On the other hand it might be easier to have a flat database (like a spreadsheet) rather than a relational one. There is some draft documentation appearing for Base http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Documentation/Publications#LibreOffice_Base_Guide which might help. Just out of curiosity please could you let us know what other database programs you have tried? Did you manage to build-up a table of data in any of them? If so it might be good to get Base to use that table as it's back-end as that would solve 2 issues in one go. Re: [libreoffice-users] Problem With ASCII Filter Options
Hi :) +1 to most of that. There is a wikipedia page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Office_2004_for_Mac although the intro is a bit confusing. It does point out that the default format is .doc rather than the newer .docX which is good but does mean you can't open them as zip files. Newer Microsoft Office can read/write .odt files but they can only cope with the older ODF formats, NOT the 1.2! So it is better to save documents in the older 1.0 / 1.1 format NOT the 1.2 Extended! Sadly that is not great for spreadsheets. It might be that pulling documents in as 1.2 is better and then saving as 1.1 if you need to share with MS Office users. If you can avoid MS Office users or convince them to install almost any other Office Suite alongside MS Office (such as LibreOffice, OpenOffice, Calligra, AbiWord, Lotus Symphony Suite or use Google-docs) then sticking with 1.2 is best. It's only MS Office that can't cope. An increasing number of people are using LibreOffice/OpenOffice so an increasing amount of documents are in the ODF 1.2 format so MS Office users are going to have to become better at reading them. Can you find out what format the files are in? The file-ending helps. It is very strange that it's trying to figure out Ascii filter options. That makes it sound like a very non-standard format or perhaps a wonky .rtf If you could tell us the format we might be able to help better. There might be an add-on / Extension that does a better job of converting/filtering. At Microsoft.com there is this page http://support.microsoft.com/ph/2531 although i tend to find their advice creates problems or doesn't work or abandons you halfway through an explanation or misses vital steps. With other help sites if you are given a choice between 2003 and 2007 go with the advice for 2003 as that is what 2004 is based on and is most similar to. (3.3.3) I won't go into detail with other conversion problems. The main one is when a document is listed as a LibreOpen Document I try to open it w/ LibreOffice3, I get a window, ASCII Filter Options. I click ok, get a document filled w/ # signs, among others. This seems to be a problem on other websites involving the ASCII Filter Options issue, but none of the topics relate to Word2004. It's always about Word2003 or Word2007. What can I do to solve this problem? Or, can I NOT do anything to solve it? Would appreciate any advice or links you can give me. David I would expect Word2003 to be a very similar to Word2004. I believe W04 is the Mac version of W03 and uses the same file extensions. So I would try a solution suggested for W03 unless it specifically says the problem is a Windows (OS) problem not an Office problem. If the file is an *.odt or *.msox you can use a zip utility to open it and find the xml file with the data in it. This trick does not work W03/W04 files. Also, check the default ODF version in LO, it should be 1.2 extended (ToolsOptionsLoad/SaveGeneral). [libreoffice-users] Calc handles fonts wrong
Good evening OS: Windows XP, LO 3.4.4 I have noted this quite a while ago. Working on a sheet with 3 different languages (Japanese - English - German). [libreoffice-users] Re: PROBLEM WITH VBA MACRO IN CALC FROM EXCEL
Hi :) I don't use macros at all so i don't know how to access the code. Jay's idea seemed smart. In LibreOffice go up to the menus at the top and click on Tools - Options - + Load/Save - VBA Properties and then tick all the options in there and then re-load the invoice. You might also need to let LibreOffice know what the data-source is? When i tried to open the file it gave me a warning about my security settings blocking macros and i think that might be a default setting. Try Tools - Options - LibreOffice - Security - Macro Security - Security Level Mine was set to the 2nd highest so i set it lower. This time it enabled macros but gave me the error mesage BASIC run-time error 13 Data type mis-match which i guess is because i don't have the data-source/contacts-sheet. I did find it interesting that LibreOffice allows macros to be written in a choice of 4 languages; LibreOffice (Basic), Python, BeanShell (!?!) and JavaScript (worth avoiding?). The subject-line is a lot clearer now. I think the VBA Basic of MS Office is slightly different from the Basic used by LibreOffice. Yes, that's true. At the moment I am testing whether the problem also occurs when I disable hardware accelaration and font antialiasing in LO. A multiple selection is only available for a free standing form control list, i.e. one in which the data is presented or displayed in a Writer form or Calc sheet, but can not be bound to a database field, unless you store the values individually in a corresponding table (n-m relationship). Alternatively, it is also apparently possible to do this using a macro to write the data from the multiple selection into corresponding fields in a bound table. As far as I know, Base does not currently support writing to ENUM or SET data types, and most likely the control properties do not provide for that within the current UNO API (although I haven't checked). Hi Alex, The data controls will read/write to those filed types, when the connected database engine supports them - what the built in controls will not do is parse the results for the GUI. IIRC this post on one of the forums that includes a script that does parse a set enum, with example showing how to connect the script to a list control in multi-select mode. http://www.oooforum.org/forum/viewtopic.phtml?t=37079 Haven't looked at that in a long time - it sounds like what the person needs.. I'll try the script and make sure it still works, but can't really see why it wouldn't still. //drew -- For unsubscribe instructions e-mail to: users+h...@global.libreoffice.org Problems? http://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/mailing-lists/how-to-unsubscribe/ Posting guidelines + more: http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Netiquette List archive: http://listarchives.libreoffice.org/global/users/ All messages sent to this list will be publicly archived and cannot be deleted

[libreoffice-users] page numbers and table of contents
Hi, I downloaded what is supposed to be an APA 6 template for open office with a table of contents. First, how do I get the page numbers to make the first page, which is the title page, page 1, number each table of contents page, and then continue with numbering the body pages? There is no official APA format for a table of contents, but that doesn't stop instructors from asking for it. -- Jeffrey John Martin dogs...@gmail.com -- For unsubscribe instructions e-mail to: users+h...@global.libreoffice.org Problems? http://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/mailing-lists/how-to-unsubscribe/ Posting guidelines + more: http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Netiquette List archive: http://listarchives.libreoffice.org/global/users/ All messages sent to this list will be publicly archived and cannot be deleted
[libreoffice-users] Re: Multiple select field in Base forms
http://nabble.documentfoundation.org/file/n3658280/Music_Library.odt Music_Library.odt I spend my days working in a Cache database that has a user front end, and it has been years since I have built something like this in from the bottom up, so you are reminding me of all the things I have forgotten never knew! Let's see if I can answer everyone's questions My friend took over as choir director and I have been helping her go through the music library. There are files and files of music - from small anthems to full mass settings, Requiems and books of anthems. They currently have old card files like the old school library days - one set filed by title, one by composer, and a third by church season. The church has been through some changes and the files are a not all kept up. We wanted to move the directory into a database so that we could easily search for pieces appropriate for the season, perhaps include certain instruments, etc. If I attached the document correctly, you should see a rough draft of the type of information we want to track. I initially built it with several fields for Season and Instruments, but I would rather have one field and have the data entry person enter all that apply. That way I could also query the one place for the instrument or season I want when searching for music. In looking for a program to do this, I wanted to look for something inexpensive (the church doesn't have a lot of money), and/or easily exported out if the church moved to something else. (I am doing all this myself on my mac for now.) And I wanted to create a form that would be easy for the volunteers to enter data, as many of the ladies are not computer savvy. I tried to cheat and modify a couple different CD/DVD library tools, but they didn't allow the flexibility for sheet music. I tried one database I don't recall that was a no-go in the first 5 minutes (too clumsy), and iDatabase. I think I covered all the questions, but feel free to call me on it if I didn't. Thank you for all the suggestions so far, I am still working through all the information. You're really inspired me! Re: [libreoffice-users] Re: PROBLEM WITH VBA MACRO IN CALC FROM EXCEL
Hi: I had the same error (13) but I continue trying and it runs all well. It was in OpenOffice 3.2 ... I think that in LibreOffice should run well. Regards, Jorge Rodríguez ___ El vie, 13-01-2012 a las 05:54 -0800, Tom escribió: Hi :) I don't use macros at all so i don't know how to access the code. Capital letters are usually used to shout or be abusive towards someone. So a lot of people might view this thread as being hostile. I think you are using capital letters to be clearer because you are not a native-English-speaker. Most people wont know about that so they might be taking offence and hiding away.
