Hello;

On April 6th I filed bug #48365 for Libre Office Draw ["Exporting as an EPS
file results in an incorrectly scaled image (appears larger than original)"].
It is now six weeks later and there is no sign that anyone has acknowledged the
bug report, much less looked into it. Perhaps this is the way it works, with
long response times. I would appreciate any comments. If I have incorrectly
filed the report, I will be happy to modify it. If it just takes time, I would

No, not even Base requires any Java to be useful. You can do almost
anything with non-Java databases. Just disable Java, create a new
database or load the "Bibliography", add queries and draw forms.

I have had no problem using the x86_64 Java 6.0.x and later 7.0.x with

Just lucky I guess.

Java applications are neither 32 nor 64 bit. They are "neutral" byte
code supposed to run on all virtual Java machines.
As far as I understand the matter, Java_64 can not add new components to
this 32 bit application. This is another level of integration which
requires a 32 bit Java for a 32 bit office suite.

[libreoffice-users] ThreadDeath using BasicOfficeBean.java in LibreOffice

2012-05-18 Thread barrybevel
Hi,
  Apologies in advance for the vague nature of this question... here goes...

I have inherited an Applet which uses BasicOfficeBean.java to create Writer
Documents in the browser.
(Next Generation Java Plugin from JDK 1.6.0.26 in Firefox 4.0)

This same code is used for both StarOffice in Windows XP SP3 and LibreOffice
in Ubuntu 10.4
(Sorry I don't have the versions to hand)

* Q1) Is it a good idea to use BasicOfficeBean.java for both StarOffice and
LibreOffice or does LibreOffice have an alternative?

After a while we get a ThreadDeath exception!

The code where the Debugger(Eclipse) shows the ThreadDeath in
BasicOfficeBean.java is below:

   synchronized (mQueue) {
if (mQueue.isEmpty() == true) {
mQueue.wait();
}
command =
(OfficeCommand)mQueue.remove(0);
}

It's BasicOfficeBean.java 1.4 seen here: (search for 00465)
http://openoffice.org-sdk.sourcearchive.com/documentation/1.1.0-2/BasicOfficeBean_8java-source.html

When I press "l" in the Java Console I have a Zombie thread and another Java
Console is created with another separate JVM.

* Q2) Should I ever get a ThreadDeath or Zombie thread or is it a "normal
occurrence"?

I would love any feedback from experienced users if they ever get a
ThreadDeath and if they use BasicOfficeBean.java with LibreOffice?

Thanks in advance for any replies...

Whatever "LO databases" means. The built-in bibliography is dBase and does
not require any Java at all. Java_64 can not interface with a 32 bit

Is it not the dbase module of LO that requires Java?

No, it isn't. Disable Java and every new database will be a dBase
directory (just like it used to be in OOo 1).

Anyhow, Java_64 can not interface with a 32 bit application.

[libreoffice-users] Re: What versions of LibO and Java-JRE to install today?

2012-05-18 Thread Tom
Hi :)
Where Andreas offers a choice of either
3.5.3 with any Java
or
3.4.6 with Java 6 (not 7)

I would recommend 3.4.6 with Java 6u31.

I thought compatibility with Java 7 had been back-ported to LO 3.4.5&3.4.6
but if that's not working for you then the Java 6u31 should be fine. Not
long ago people often had to go back to the worryingly ancient Java 6u21 as
anything after 6u24 slowed or crashed quite a few people's machines. The LO
devs seem to have fixed that.

The problem seems to be with Oracle's 'professional' programmers or may it's
part of some strategy to start profiting from Java which is currently free.
At the moment it is just making people lose confidence in Java. LibreOffice
devs are writing-out any dependence on Java. Hopefully Extensions-devs
might go the same way too. Sadly not enough people are working on Base at
the moment but it seems to have picked-up a bit. Caligra Office have a
database program called Kexi which just fixed a few issues so it might be
worth trying. I think most people run Base quite happily but avoid using
the internal HsqlDb. HsqlDb as an external DB seems fine but there are
other choices for a wide variety of back-ends.
Regards from
Tom :)

[libreoffice-users] What versions of LibO and Java-JRE to install today?

2012-05-18 Thread Pertti Rönnberg

Dear you LibO folks,
Some days ago as a branch of the thread "Base and Java 1.7 - does not
work" I asked for your advice/recommendation on what versions of LibreO
and JRE I shall /_install today_/ when I quite far from home and my
laptop as the only computer, at my countryside cottage want to work with
Writer, Calc and especially Base without any disturbing bugs and other
issues.

I think my question is relevant and of interest to others too.
All along this winter and springtime this mailing list has handled
problems about LibO v.3.5.x not working, LibO-3.5.x crashing, Base not
working, with or without Java JRE, connections to db not working, etc.
After about 5 months struggling with LibO (-Base) I am sort of fed up --
as a preparation before summer I finally need to decide if continue with
LibO, or return to OpenO or skip both of those and look for something
else as a reliable working tool, e.g. purchase MSOffice&MSAccess.

I've got some kind varying explanations but no exact answers plus that I
know that it is not quite true that a 32-bit program (e.g. WinXP progs)
runs always OK on a Win7/64-bit.
You LibO experts may know about LibO's compatibility features and
build-ups and it's more or less hidden wonderful properties (e.g.
/_telling now_/ that it is 32-bit and runs on Win7-64bit) but try to
remember that out here are many 'dummies' like me that do not - not
until we are told.

So I repeat my questions:
What version of LibreO do you recommend that I shall install on my
laptop (Win7-Premium Home-64bit) before summer
a >>what is the best, most reliable and stable version today (esp.
concerning Base, no bugs, no other issues)
b >>does that LibO-version require a Java JRE to run Base? -- what
JRE-version (surely OK on Win7/64bit)?
c >>what kind of issues do I have to be prepared for with LibO in
general, and because of LibO being 32-bits and my laptop Win7/64-bits?
d >>does that recommended LibO (on laptop) communicate without
problems with my PC (Win-Prof/32 bit & LibO-3.4.6)?

Best regards
Pertti Rönnberg

I have concatenated the two documents using the menu command "Insert->File..."

One document contains a numbered list of items. It should have it's
own page number and page count. The other document mentions the number
and text of the listed items. It also needs it owns page number and
page count.

I use cross-references to reflect any change in the number or text of
the items automatically in the other document. (Menu Insert ->
Cross-references, then Tab cross-references, Type:numbered paragraph,
Reference to: number and reference)

I wonder if I could proceed the other way around: setting index
entries and generate the list in the other document with a
user-defined index. That doesn't change the page numbering issue
though.

2012-05-18 Thread Tom Davies

"We're sorry, the page you requested was not found."
lol.  Still the 2nd one looked great :)
Thanks and regards from
Tom :)
