Re: [libreoffice-users] Word 2003 to Libre Writer - Comparison Chart
Hello, sent also to [design] as I think this is where it pertains. Le 12/11/2012 18:27, charles meyer a écrit : Hi Folks, MS Word has a comparison chart which shows you how to perform certain tasks in Word compared to how you effect them in WordPerfect. It's an easy chart to check (and learn) Word if you've been a WordPerfect user. Ex. Ctrl/F8 will perform a certain task in WordPerfect but that same task is done with different function key combinations in Word I was wondering if anyone has come across a similar comparison chart for Libre Writer and Word, especially Word 2003? The chart would show how a task is done in Word and then next to it would reveal how that task is done in Libre Writer. On the same goal and idea, I had suggested a *lng* time ago on the French OOo lists to create a set of keyboard shortcuts that would help the MS-Word power users switching to Writer. Beginners and standard users can switch quite easily. They haven't a thorough knowledge of the tool and usually just use the menus to get to the functionalities they need (argh!). Power users have long understood that the keyboard is a tool of productivity. Thus, they use keyboard shortcuts widely. As Word and Writer have different sets of shortcuts (at least they had when I left MS-Word alone, a long time ago), it could be an interesting work to port the Word shortcuts into Writer. We could then offer an easy transition that would fill a big gap for these people, helping them to switch tools more quickly. What do you think? Do I miss something? Note that this is just an idea. I have to-day no clue to what the Word shortcuts are vs Writer ones. -- Jean-Francois Nifenecker, Bordeaux -- For unsubscribe instructions e-mail to: users+h...@global.libreoffice.org Problems? http://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/mailing-lists/how-to-unsubscribe/ Posting guidelines + more: http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Netiquette List archive: http://listarchives.libreoffice.org/global/users/ All messages sent to this list will be publicly archived and cannot be deleted
Re: [libreoffice-users] missing file in libreoffice 3.6.3
Hi :) Arrgh. So it's still not working :( Don't worry about bothering us. That is what we are here for. So, when you installed Fedora did you install on the same machine as your Ubuntu? Did you install over the top of Ubuntu or was it a new partition? Can you still boot into Ubuntu? Is your internet connection able to deal with updates now? If so then in Fedora can you force PackageKit (or whatever you use as a package-manager) to look for all updates for everything? There should (hopefully) be a button somewhere saying Updates. I think you can install Synaptic Package Manager which might be more familiar and easier for you to use. A couple of years ago they made it able to deal with rpms as well as debs (depending on which distro you install synaptic into, it picks up the right one to use). So, old timers still worry about using synaptic for Rpm distros but it's fine now. I found this link https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/User_Guide_-_Managing_Software There is a drop-down at the top left to change to a better language for you. At the moment it's set on English which seems fine but you can change if you like. Fedora 17 should have LibreOffice 3.5.2 installed by default and that should be a reasonably good version to use. Do you still have the Fedora Cd? Do you have enough space on your hard-drive to do an extra install to experiment? Alternatively you might have more success using the Fedora Cd as a LiveCd. Live Cd means just boot up straight from the Cd and avoid installing. It should get you to a usable desktop with LO (3.5.2) ready to use. LiveCd is a bit slower than a proper hard-drive install but it's a good way to get a working system uprunning quickly. Just avoid configuring it or installing extra programs, just use it as is. Also if you save stuff make sure it's to your network-fileshares or proper hard-drive and NOT Documents (or Desktop, or whatever) inside the Live Cd session. The local files vanish when you take the Cd out or reboot. Ones on your hard-drive are still there of course. [libreoffice-users] SQL Error on Insert
Hi All My saga continues with getting Base to work with MySQL!! I am almost there but our friend Murphy has caught me yet again. After a MAJOR battle I managed to get all my data out of the old HSQL Database. If I tried to extract it all in one go Base either froze or crashed. So I added a select function to pull out all the 'As, the 'Bs' etc etc and that worked. I then concatenated all the Data in Calc and spent a few days cleaning it all up. Right final step - to INSERT it into the already prepared SQL Databse, (created using My Admin). I tried the SQL scripts in a terminal for well over a day with no results except error messages. While Googling about this I came across a tutorial on how to do this with MyAdmin so decided to go that route. After several hiccups due to differences in Field Names all seemed to be right but do what want I can not get past the error Invalid column count in CSV input on line 1. I have tried everything I can think of and tried all the answers I found after lots of Googling but the problem remains!! Does anyone know what causes this error or better how to fix it?? Re: [libreoffice-users] Downloading the new LO
Well, you can simply click on Main installer link to start downloading msi file (just like exe, I don't know exact differences). There are direct links: 3.6.3: http://download.documentfoundation.org/libreoffice/stable/3.6.3/win/x86/LibO_3.6.3_Win_x86_install_multi.msi 3.5.7: http://download.documentfoundation.org/libreoffice/stable/3.5.7/win/x86/LibO_3.5.7_Win_x86_install_multi.msi (you should be aware of LibreOffice version numbering scheme; read there: http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/ReleasePlan ) As for BitTorrent - this is peer-to-peer network used to share files. Basically each user that downloads file also shares it with other users of network. This way download is decentralized. This takes stress out of The Document Foundation servers, making them use less resources and pay less money for maintenance. Also, this is environment friendly and makes our planet greener ;) . To start using bittorrent, you just need dedicated application (called client). There are plenty of these for each operating system out there. Just search web for name of OS torrent client. The new spreadsheet for 2013 will need to reference fields in the 2012 spreadsheet. For the past few years I have manually changed the Readings-2012 in every instance (well over 100). I would like to be able to construct the spreadsheets with a method to change the current year, eg 2013 minus 1 to give 2012 inserted so that the ref in the 2013 spreadsheet reads;- ='file:///home/fred/Generation Readings-2012.ods'#$Jan.A68 Is this possible? Yes. You need to concatenate the required year value with the strings required before and after it. Suppose that you have the current year - 2013 in your example - in A1 of your new spreadsheet. You need to concatenate 'file:///home/fred/Generation Readings- with A1-1 and .ods'#$Jan.A68. Note that the two single quotes are part of the string you are creating and the four double quotes delimit the two text strings, so the first string has a single quote immediately following its opening double quote. You can carry out this concatenation using the operator: ='file:///home/fred/Generation Readings-A1-1.ods'#$Jan.A68 (The numerical expression A1-1 is converted to a string value automatically.) You might expect this to work, but it doesn't. The formula above results in a text string which is interpreted literally and not as a cell reference to the other spreadsheet file. But the trick you need is available in the INDIRECT() function, which provides the necessary conversion. So the formula which works is =INDIRECT('file:///home/fred/Generation Readings-A1-1.ods'#$Jan.A68) Hi Brian, Thank you so much, your solution works a treat. My spreadsheet consists of 15 pages each year, so my next question is:- would it be possible to put the new year on page 1 named cover in cell A2 and then change the A1-1 to reference this on for each instance on every page? Yes. You refer to a cell on another sheet as sheet.cell. So you would just need to use ...cover.A2-1... . Hi Marc, Le 13/11/2012 11:17, Marc Paré a écrit : We had discussed this quite a while ago on the Marketing Team and Ron Faile JR had developed a series of reference cards that could be adapted for this. Have a look here: http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Marketing/Reference_Cards The reference cards may need checking as they were designed for LibreOffice 3.3 and they still need to be adapted for A4 paper stock. I still have one on my desk and the people I sent it to (educators who tried it with students) said that it was well received by both groups. It is really cool. Unless I'm mistaken, the ref cards you're talking about are a different beast. I've used both the zoom the print previews; how can I stay in these views and edit??? when I begin to edit, it switches to the regular mode. This is, of course, quite useful for reviewing layouts more realistically. Since that is what I'm creating, I would like to set the Book Preview as the default for the Print Preview display (yes, I acknowledge my laziness, but isn't the fact that I use a word processor instead of a typewriter sufficient proof of that?); it would be even cooler if that display choice could be set on a per-document basis as well, but I don't want to be too greedy. I've searched around, but haven't run across anything that would allow me to do that. Does anyone know if such a setting exists and, if so, how to set it? Re: [libreoffice-users] Collate print option not working
I've had that problem with any software I've used; the only sure way is to set the printer's options - then it works as it should every time. So you would just need to use ...cover.A2-1... . When I installed it, CUPS found the printer on my network automagically with the Find New Printers option, but I continued to install it manually using the CUPS wizard. I did not opt for the Foomatic or Gutenprint drivers, thinking they would not be needed, since the printer has Postscript emulation, and a simple Postscript driver should suffice. Now I may go back and rethink that decision. I noticed there are two other drivers I may try: Foomatic and CUPS Gutenprint v5.2.2. snip Try the Export to PDF for one copy of the document and then try and print the duplex and collated document that way. If it works, then it is a LO printer option issue. If it does not work properly, then it is a printer/driver issue.
