Re: [tdf-discuss] Re: [libreoffice-users] [4.0.3.3 non fixed bug] Link with a space Pdf export error (%20 characters - space ones - exported as %2520 ones)

2013-05-09 Thread Tom Davies
Hi :)
I don't know if there is one for LibreOffice yet.

People have tried to show me how to look things up in the bug-report place but
for some reason i can never quite manage it myself.

Also i'm not sure if just solving the problem in LibreOffice would make the
problem go away.  It seems to be further "upstream" with fairly major projects
having to deal with it separately. is it possible to post a bug-report against
"the internet"?
Apols and regards form
Tom :)

Re: [libreoffice-users] Table of Contents woes

2013-05-09 Thread Tom Davies
Hi :)
Have you been able to manually edit it?

It does look as though something is very wrong.  It looks like 2 styles have
been applied to each heading.  First as a sub-heading and then as a main
heading.  Sometimes the fastest way to fix something is an inelegant approach
such as mine rather than trouble-shooting down to the exact cause.

If it was all the sub-headings that you wanted to get rid of then it's fairly
easy to set the ToC to only show main headings but that would not help this
case.  There is some documentation on Styles in Chapter 3 of the Getting
Started Guide
https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Documentation/Publications#Getting_Started_with_LibreOffice

Hopefully someone else can give a better answer (or even better if i missed a
better answer)
Apols and regards from
Tom :)

Re: [libreoffice-users] Italics and bold in BASE

2013-05-09 Thread Hank Alper
Hi
The short answer to your question is "Yes".
You can use Bold and Italics in your Forms and in your Reports in Base.
In both cases you must be in design mode.
Have you been able to design a Form without using Bold or Italics ?

Re: [libreoffice-users] Not able to "Unsubscribe" from the mail-list

2013-05-09 Thread Tom Davies
Hi :)
Sorry, i sent this back tot he list because i'm not sure how to solve this one
now.  The "problems?" page
http://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/mailing-lists/how-to-unsubscribe/
suggests

1.  Check what type of subscription you have.  Either Standard or Digest.
Looks like Standard in this case but it might be smart to send to both
unsubscribe places jic.
users+unsubscribe-dig...@global.libreoffice.org

users+unsubscr...@global.libreoffice.org

2.  Check which email address is subscribed.

Many people have more than 1 email address and then arrange to have all
addresses feed into the one they read.  it makes it easier to deal with attacks
or other security issues but makes it a bit of a nightmare trying to keep track
of all the different ones.  I used to do it but i'm not very smart about
setting up good emailing systems so it kinda back-fired on me.  Unsubscribing
the reader account rather than the one subscribed is something people often do
but i think that's not the problem this time.

This 'should' lead to getting a reply such as

"Subject: Confirm unsubscribe from: users@global.libreoffice.org
Hi, this is the mlmmj program managing the mailinglist
users@global.libreoffice.org
To confirm you want the address
john@example.com
removed from this list, please send a reply to Your mailer
may automatically reply to this address when you hit
the reply button. [...]
"

Ahh, found it.  Sanjay, i will email you off-list to give the secret bit at the
end

Re: [libreoffice-users] Base data-loss and other problems

2013-05-09 Thread Hank Alper
Hi Tom,
My experience with the embedded database in Base has convinced me to move
to an external back-end. I have had several instances of data loss
particularly during sessions of heavy data input.
While I'm in the process of moving my database to an external H2 database,
I still use the embedded database carefully, however. I backup the embedded
database before adding data, sparingly or working with the Report Writer.
Both of these activitie have resulted in data loss in the past. I still
like Base as a front end, however.

Hi :)
Yes, you can't just click on those unsubscribe addresses.  You have to
copy&paste them into the "To" field at the top.  When you just click on them it
ignores the
users+

[libreoffice-users] Base data-loss and other problems

2013-05-09 Thread Tom Davies
Hi :)
The marketing list is trying to tell people to use the internal back-end in
Base because it's so good that it's a great selling point.

I'm fairly sure that quite a few people have had troubles with the internal
back-end that were solved by 'just' moving to an external back-end.  I vaguely
remember someone even suffering data-loss using the embedded/internal back-end.
Was there a bug-report?  Should people be encouraged to stick with the
internal/embedded back-end or warned off from it?

Of course on the marketing list i make myself enormously unpopular by pointing
out things like that.  Is anyone able to give me links to fairly serious
bug-reports about Base to help me make my case?

Regards from

Tom :)

Umm, it looks like I was a few days late and you already solved your
issue, so no need to send me a copy of the document :-)

The problem is probably because these are input fields in a form.
Either that, or it is because the fields are not anchored directly

Can you email a copy of your document directly to me (off list). As
long as it contains the text fields, that is sufficient (in other
words, you can remove all the text that you like).

Thanks!

Making progress... finally.

Your code actually retrieved the text within my first "text box" (which is at
least something!) but then it fails with the error:

LibreOffice 4.0.2.2
BASIC runtime error.
'423'
Text

it points to line:
Print x.getName() & " : " & x.Text

It may be choking on a "formatted field" within the document.

Just out of curiosity, how did you know that you had to use ThisComponent.DrawPage.Forms?
As a novice, I find the documentation to be quite confusing and a supposedly
"simple" task such as getting text field values seems to be quite difficult. I
mean, I found examples on the net and they all start with something like:

   vEnum = ThisComponent.getTextFields().createEnumeration()
   If Not IsNull(vEnum) Then
 Do While vEnum.hasMoreElements()
   vVal = vEnum.nextElement()

but then I either don't know how to continue or the examples I found on the net
don't work (maybe outdated OO or LO versions).

BTW, is there an IDE that can auto-complete Basic code (eg. vVal.??? as in the
example above).

Thanks,

Vieri

Hi,

Thanks for the reply but I'm still having

I copied your macros to my odt document.

If I run DisplayMasterFields then it yields the

Trying to attach the file again but it seems that the

Re: [libreoffice-users] gettextfields

2013-05-09 Thread Andrew Douglas Pitonyak

The problem is probably because these are input fields in a form. Either
that, or it is because the fields are not anchored directly into the
text in a way that enumerating text will display them.

Can you email a copy of your document directly to me (off list). As long
as it contains the text fields, that is sufficient (in other words, you
can remove all the text that you like).

Re: [libreoffice-users] 4.0.3 64-bit DEB removed my extensions, but Windows version did notI

2013-05-09 Thread Tom Davies
Hi :)
Errr, the User Profile changed with the 4.0.x.  Under 3.x.x the path was

blah...blah/3/blah

under 4.0.x it's changed to

blah...blah/4/blah

So if you are upgrading from 3.x.x to 4.0.x then your Extensions, galleries,
backups, templates and all the rest might not get picked up by the newer
version.  Copy&paste or drag&drop are good options to fix it!  It's more about
the last version the machine had rather than which platform you are running it
on.  However it's a fairly unusual problem because most of the time the 4.0.x
install picks up the old stuff for you.
Regards from
Tom :)

 Version 4.0.3.3 (Build ID: 0eaa50a932c8f2199a615e1eb30f7ac74279539)

I downloaded it today from the LO site, after it was announced. I
 try not to download RCversions.

I had a different problem with the 13.04 Ubuntu I have on my laptop,
which is an issue with 13.04 [I think since it effects more than

But on my Ubuntu 12.04 desktop, I had the problem withthe loss of

an install problem until I removed all of the LO files with the
Package Manager.  But it kept the extensions and persona.

Is that what you are supposed to do?

I'm trying to create multiple indexes in writer 4 but I cannot find out
how to get them sorted alphabetically.

From your help files:

How could I create the above two indices??
I'd be grateful for any help on this one - I just can't seem to sort it
(sorry about the pun ) :-)

I had a different problem with the 13.04 Ubuntu I have on my laptop,
which is an issue with 13.04 [I think since it effects more than LO]. I
run Ubuntu with MATE desktop environment.

But on my Ubuntu 12.04 desktop, I had the problem withthe loss of the
extensions and persona. On 13.04 I did not have that issue, but an
install problem until I removed all of the LO files with the Package
Manager. But it kept the extensions and persona.

I do not know if it is a bug, or not. If other have seen this, than
it might be.
It is a little difficult to say since you did not say what
version of LibreOffice you had installed on the two systems. That is
likely to be important. Also from where did you download LibreOffice
4.0.3?
I have installed 4.0.3.3 (Debian 64 Bit) that I downloaded from

have been because I already had 4.0.3.2 installed.

Thanks for the responses! To the extent of my knowledge, Photoshop smooths
lines out when you draw. Like this:

Haha, I know that's really bad, but something like that. That's what I meant

[libreoffice-users] Table of Contents woes

2013-05-09 Thread Carl Paulsen

LibreOffice 3.5.6.2
Build ID: e0fbe70-dcba98b-297ab39-994e618-0f858f0
On an Intel Mac on 10.6.8

I have a draft document in which I've used heading styles for sections.
I now want to create a Table of Contents (ToC), but I'm having trouble
getting it to work right. I'm using the styles almost as they came with
the software (I added one style for a "Draft" watermark that I'm also
using in this document).

The problem is that sections to which I've applied the Heading 1a style
end up with 2 or 3 entries in the ToC, at different levels. So, for
example, I have one Heading 1 section, "Fundraising History," followed
by a subsection called "Annual Fund" set to Heading 1a. There are other
subsections with Heading 1a applied, then other sections with Heading 1
applied. The ToC reads:

Fundraising History
Annual Fund
Annual Fund
Auction
Auction

Etc.

The ToC should read:

Fundraising History
Annual Fund
Auction

Etc.

ToC screen grab
(I've inserted a screen-shot image here but not sure it'll get through
to the group.)

Any idea what's going on and how I can fix it? Thanks so much.

I now see what the problem is: you need to change your design of
the report. For any heading that you do not want to be repeated, you
have to group by that heading. How you do this depends upon whether
you created the report using Design View or the Report Wizard. If the
latter, you will have to recreate the report. If you used Design
View, right click the report and select Edit. Then used the Report
Builder to select TG as the field you want to Group By. Let me know
which you used, and I will tell you what you need to do.

--Dan

You may wish to modify your design as if it were a Writer Outline
document.

Table: Header
Header fields
Key: 1
Table: Heading
Heading fields
Key: 1.X
Table: Paragraph
Paragraph fields
Key: 1.1.X

Header keys are a join of 1 to Many relationship. This creates a
cascading effect. Numerical, alphabetical or whatever key matching
type is yours to define.

Print yes/no should be in "fields" of Tables.

Hope this helps.

Sorry, but I have no idea what you are talking about.
Specifically, the terminology seems abstract.
A simple correction is all that is necessary. Edit the report. With
it open in the report wizard in edit mode, View > Grouping and Sorting.
Select TG as the field that is used to group the data in the report.
Select how the values of the TG field should be sorted. Move the TG
label and field from the Detail section to the newly created TG Heading
section. Run the report.

Hi Regina,

I followed those guides too but the sentence "The OpenOffice.org Scripting
module has been tested with NetBeans 3.4." got me thinking that it may not be
wise to use something that's "apparently" not updated (I have netbeans 7.3).
I'm not saying it's outdated so I may give it a try tomorrow.

Anyway, I then found another guide and I believe it explains the netbeans part
a little more deeply and doesn't really require a module (the only thing I have
to do manually is prepare the xml descriptor and copy the jar files to the LO
script dir):
http://wiki.openoffice.org/wiki/Scripting_in_Java_with_NetBeans_IDE
The part that I was doing wrong was related to point "10" in that guide. I
wasn't placing my classes within "default package".

Surely I read other articles here and there but with these two it should be
enough.

Take a look of ideas page on a wiki:

This is by no means list of things that will be done. It's only a list of
things that developers has volunteered to mentor. We still do not know how
many students will be associated to LibreOffice, what are they skills and
personal interests.

I now see what the problem is: you need to change your design of
the report. For any heading that you do not want to be repeated, you
have to group by that heading. How you do this depends upon whether
you created the report using Design View or the Report Wizard. If the
latter, you will have to recreate the report. If you used Design View,
right click the report and select Edit. Then used the Report Builder
to select TG as the field you want to Group By. Let me know which you
used, and I will tell you what you need to do.

You may wish to modify your design as if it were a Writer Outline document.

Table: Header
Header fields
Key: 1
Table: Heading
Heading fields
Key: 1.X
Table: Paragraph
Paragraph fields
Key: 1.1.X

Header keys are a join of 1 to Many relationship. This creates a
cascading effect. Numerical, alphabetical or whatever key matching type
is yours to define.

Print yes/no should be in "fields" of Tables.

Hope this helps.

Probably because
- LO Base only inherited what limited formatting support was provided
through the OpenOffice.org project ;

- the limited formatting available for LONVARCHAR/MEMO fields in Forms
and Reports was only introduced relatively recently into the OOo
project, from memory about 6 or 7 years ago - the Sun/Oracle Base
developers never got around to having enough resources to go much
further with the idea ;

-  the formatting attributes can not be stored in the database itself ;

- if you want to request an enhancement in the bugzilla database, be
prepared to muck in with code, as there are only very few Base
developers and they have other, higher priority, things to do.

Re: [libreoffice-users] Re: re. Italics and bold in BASE

Hi :)
But does Access have all the formatting options available in Writer, or even in
Word?  Base does.  It doesn't swap around what the Ctrl and Alt keys do either
so you keep using the tools you are familiar with instead of going into some
weird scary thing that keeps throwing curved balls.  My request would be better
integration and fix the mail-merges issue if any remain.

[libreoffice-users] GSOC = Google's Summer Of Code

2013-05-09 Thread Tom Davies
Hi :)
Did anyone else miss that Google's "Summer of Code" is here again already!
Last year several projects were aimed at expanding LibreOffice's functionality.
I think one was something to do with importing Visio files?

Anyone any idea what is being put forwards this year?

Apparently final announcements are going to be made at the end of this month.

You're comparing apples and oranges.

Draw is a *drawing* tool ;) while Photoshop is an *image* manipulation
tool (like Gimp, its free counterpart).

I'm not sure Draw can do line smoothing (never looked and suppose it
dosn't but someone might jump in and give more details). Perhaps a
combination of Draw and Photoshop might help? (Draw can export to
image formats, see the File / Export menu)

Draw - vectorgraphics drawing - like Inkscape, Illustrator, or Corel Draw
think editing objects, boxes and lines

imageor photo editing - like GIMP, Photoshop, or Paint Shop Pro
think editing pixels

The rationale is that I have lots of documents that have been edited
by different people. I would prefer moving these all to one and then
actually looking at the changes and either accepting or not accepting
the modified stuff.

That's what I thought you meant!

If you have sent the same text to multiple editors and the only
changes made to each copy are recorded changes, you can do this by
opening one document and then using Edit | Changes > | Merge
Documents... multiple times to merge each of the other documents. You
can then, as you desire, look at all the suggested changes together
when deciding to accept or reject any of them.

But this works only if the documents differ only in recorded changes.
To make this work properly, you need to set the original document to
record changes (Edit | Changes > | Record) and then to protect this
setting using Edit | Changes > | Protect Records... and entering a
password *before* distributing your original. Without this password,
the various editors will not be able to disable change recording, so
all the edited documents will come back in a state where the above
technique will work.

I trust this helps.

Brian Barker

Thanks! Going to try it out today :)

Best,
Joel

I'm having the same problem. Also, have this problem with some of the data
validity settings (the 'Allow' criteria flags not maintaining state).
Could this be because I'm saving the file as '.xls'?
I'm running LO 4.0.1.2 on a 64 bit Chrome machine.
3 of the 7 sheets have frozen rows and columns.

Thanks,

Hi :)
Sorry that address looks like it got a bit mangled.  this one might too so i
have tried to send it plain text
users+subscr...@global.libreoffice.org

Usually the "users+" bit at the beginning gets missed off only everything after
the + turning blue and getting underlined.  however the "users+" bit is very
important.  So, you can't just click on the link and hope it does the right
thing :(

I look forward to hearing back.

Thanks Regina.
I didn't need to use BeanShell.
I edited the parcel descriptor xml file directly.

I finally found out why I wasn't seeing the macro (or at least I think so). I
needed to create my class within "default package" (I'm using NetBeans IDE).

I'm able to launch my Java macros now.
Thanks,

Vieri

Hi :)
Regina know a lot more about all this so hopefully her answer will fix it.

There are a couple of places to get written documentation but probably not as
many as we would like.  This list is often quite a good place to get single
issue answers but for a broader perspective Chapter 13 of the "Getting Started
Guide" might help a bit.  I think Andrew Pitonyak wrote it and it's free
https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Documentation/Publications#Getting_Started_with_LibreOffice
but the best place "manual" is Andrew Pitonyaks' book at the bottom of the 3rd
party section for programmers
https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Documentation/Other_Documentation_and_Resources#Programmers

Good luck with this!

2013-05-09 Thread Tom Davies
Hi :)
%25 is the code for a % symbol so the 'wrong' link is not really wrong after
all.  It's just a bit odd and unnecessary.  In the 'wrong' link replace all the
%25s with % so that %2520 becomes %20 and then the apparently 'wrong' link
looks right.  It's a good reason for avoiding spaces and non-standard
characters in Urls.  CamelCase is much less prone to these sorts of problems.

Seems a few other organisations are having trouble with %25 replacing %

2013-05-09 Thread Carlo Strata

Hi Everyone and sorry for my long silence!

I have not read the mailing list for a long, but I am always here to
use, test, update and spread LibreOffice! ;-)

Since 4.x versions - but maybe since before:

1. if you create a new writer document and copy in it a with-space-link
like this:

http://support.mozilla.org/it/kb/Informazioni%20su%20Firefox%20Sync
2. save the document;
3. export the document in pdf with the default settings;
4. open the exported pdf;
5. click on the clickable link;
6. you will get this wrong link instead:
http://support.mozilla.org/it/kb/Informazioni%2520su%2520Firefox%2520Sync
7. if you open that link from the odt (as usual with a ctrl+click) you
get instead the right link and the browser open correctly!
8. if you leave your mouse cursor on the link both on the pdf and the
odt documents you will get a correct title yellow lable ("tooltip") too!

9. I finally think there is a bug on the pdf export module.
10. This is the same if you create the above document with the Insert ->
Hypertext link menu function.

I have tested this on each new testing release, but only today I have
found the mental time to write this mail.
I am also going to search if there is a related issue yet and if not, as
I used in the near past, I will post a new one.

Have a sunny day,

Carlo

p.s. on this Saturday I will see Italo (Vignoli) on Venice (where I
live) in a very interesting public access Venetian Engineers Meeting
that I help to organize... :-)

Re: [libreoffice-users] java macro

2013-05-09 Thread Vieri
Hi Tom,

I just need to get the job done.
Right now, I can use whatever language, just as long as it's supported within
LO. The problem with LO and OOo is that it "apparently" supports X programming
language (such as Java) but there's barely enough documentation on how to "bind
it" to the application. For instance, I followed a guide to run Java macros in
LO but they simply don't show up in LO/"run macros". That's beyond the scope of
programming per-se. It's more of how LO deals with macros.
Anyway, maybe I'll have better luck with Python (as far as its "integration"
with LO is concerned).

Thanks,

Vieri

Re: [libreoffice-users] java macro

2013-05-09 Thread William Drago

Tom & Vieri,

Let's not get the Java browser plugin and the Java
programming language confused...

Java is an excellent programming language and in no way can
be considered any less solid than C++. In fact, in many ways
it is more secure and more reliable than code written in C++.

What people are uninstalling/disabling (even me) is the Java
browser plugin, not the JRE/JDK. The plugin has indeed had
many security issues, and with Flash and HTML5 very few
people are using Java applets in their websites anymore.

So... Java plugin = bad. Java programming language = excellent.

Now that that's settled, C++ is a language that every
programmer should at least be familiar with. Whatever
language you choose as a primary programming language is
determined by a variety of factors, but as a general rule
you'll be more productive in Java than C++.

Python is also an excellent programming language, but I have
too little experience with it to comment any further than that.

Why is that? Shouldn't I at least see the listing?

Java JRE 7 seems to work because if I select the LibreOffice java HelloWorld
example, it prints a message in my document.

Thanks,

Yes, that's the default behaviour for most mailing lists, I think. Not
that it matters anymore, since you seem to have your problem solved,
but next time you could upload the file somewhere and just give us the
link here.

[libreoffice-users] java macro

2013-05-09 Thread Vieri
Hi,

I'm new to making Java macros.
I compiled my Java class, created the parcel-descriptor.xml file and placed the
.xml, .jar and .class files within the following folders I also created:

C:\Users\\AppData\Roaming\LibreOffice\4\user\Scripts\java\MACRO1

C:\Program Files\LibreOffice 4.0\share\Scripts\java\MACRO1

When I re-launch LO and go to Macros-> Run Macros, I don't see my MACRO1 java
macro under "My Macros" or "LibreOffice Macros".

Why is that? Shouldn't I at least see the listing?

Java JRE 7 seems to work because if I select the LibreOffice java HelloWorld
example, it prints a message in my document.

Thanks,

Vieri

Thanks Iain.
Your help is much appreciated. The macro works.
Now I'm trying to send HTTPS POST requests to my web server (not succeeding but
that's another story).

Thanks again!

Re: [libreoffice-users] Draw

Hello,

I checked on the website and tried to have this question solved, but could
not find an answer. Does LibreOffice Draw have line smoothing, like that in
Adobe Photoshop?

You're comparing apples and oranges.

Draw is a *drawing* tool ;) while Photoshop is an *image* manipulation
tool (like Gimp, its free counterpart).

I'm not sure Draw can do line smoothing (never looked and suppose it
dosn't but someone might jump in and give more details). Perhaps a
combination of Draw and Photoshop might help? (Draw can export to image
formats, see the File / Export menu)
