Re: [libreoffice-users] Possible to write reports with relationship data?
Hi :) Have you tried doing Reports in Writer? Writer should be able to use the database as it's data-source and then you put the fields in the appropriate places with whatever formatting you like that Writer has. Re: [libreoffice-users] Re: re. doc to pdf
Hi :) Just because 3 different ways have been described doesn't mean you have to argue the merits of all 3. Just use whichever one you like first time and then maybe try others ion the future sometime to see the difference. The first answer was the best because it was the first and given quite quickly. In most User Support places that would be the end of the ticket but here we carry on and give other options and discuss side-issues. The original poster still hasn't told us that we solved the problem so we keep finding other ways until he's happy. Sometimes even after that we carry on discussing the issues. I don't see that as a bad thing. I have just thought of another way and i'm somewhat surprised that no-one else seems to have pointed it out. There must be at least 1 headless way. Something like libreoffice --convert-to pdf /path-name/file-name but i doubt that is exactly right! [libreoffice-users] deploy java macro with document
Hi, I'd like to deploy a compiled Java macro with an ODT document. According to http://wiki.openoffice.org/wiki/Documentation/DevGuide/Scripting/Writing_Macros: If you want to deploy the macro to a document you need to place it in a Scripts/java directory within the document zip file. What does that mean exactly? I tried the following: I saved the ODT file within a subdir and placed my Java macro (and descriptor file) within subdir/Scripts/java/MYJAVAMACRO. If I load the document and go to Tools-Macros-Run macros, I can't see my Java macro under the document tree. What am I doing wrong? Eventually I'd like to store my odt + java macros within a webdav directory so that the dir structure would be something like this: https://server.com/webdav/docs/doc1.odt https://server.com/webdav/docs/Scripts/java/MYJAVAMACRO/parcel-descriptor.xml https://server.com/webdav/docs/Scripts/java/MYJAVAMACRO/MYJAVAMACRO.jar Clients would open the ODT files like this: soffice -o https://server.com/webdav/docs/doc1.odt I can't seem to load the Java macro in my webdav setup but I'd first like to see if I can load it in my local setup. Re: [libreoffice-users] deploy java macro with document
Hi :) I'm not certain but something like this? 1. Make a copy of the file 2. Rename the file-ending from .odt to .zip 3. double-click on the file (note that some users, usually on GnuLinux can simply right click on the file and choose Open With ... to choose Archive Manager, or WinZip/WinRar or whatever you use to compress files) Now you can see files and folders inside the document. I'm guessing you can just create the folder you want, drop the macro in and then change the file-ending again back to Odt this time. Errr, the reason for making a copy is that i'm not convinced this is going to work so you'll need to be able to go back to the original if it really messes things up. Le 14/05/13 12:40, Ian Whitfield a écrit : Hi Ian, Open in normal mode and whatever you enter in the field will have the Italics and/or Bold that you selected above. I suspect that what the original poster is looking for is the possibilty to type text strings into memo/longvarchar type field and then selectively enable the bold or italic attributes, as apparently one can do in Access (or in other DB GUI frontend software). Unfortunately, whilst this is possible in Base if you change the properties of your text field to Multiline with formatting, nothing you write in that field will be bound to the underlying data table : - additionally, this doesn't even currently work on OSX (bug), i.e. the attributes show no visible change, even if they are chosen from the right mouse button click context menu when selecting a typed-in word; - any text that is already present in the underlying table to which the text field control was previously bound will become invisible ; - as the text data which is newly entered or modified is not bound to the field of the corresponding data table, it can never be written to the table, which means that closing the form and then re-opening it results in the loss of any data you might just have entered - at least, this is certainly the case on OSX (having just tried it). All in all, a pretty useless feature, except perhaps if you just want your form to contain some bold or underlined formatted text, e.g. as a warning, general information, or other reminder, to the user of the form. The whole notion of formatted fields is hopelessly underdeveloped in Base. Oh, and did I forget to mention that it doesn't work on OSX ;-) so its not even cross-platform compatible, meaning that you can't swap with your colleagues and friends on other OSes and expect to see the same thing - magnifique, non ? The text entered into such a control is not bound to any underlying field of a database table, and so can not be stored in the database. Basically, such a control is only any good for informational purposes for the user of the form. If you are using LibreOffice on OSX, even the change of attributes functionality doesn't work (bug). Thanks to both Brian and Tom. I didn't know the odt files were compressed files. So now I have to re-think my webdav solution because I was hoping to deploy just one copy of my java macro via HTTP. This would allow me to publish my java macro updates on a web server and also publish many odt docs and templates that use this macro. So I guess I'll need to do a basic macro within the document which in turn downloads an updated copy of the Java macro and places it in, say, the user's LO appdata dir. The trick would be to reload/restart LO so it can correctly load the newly downloaded macro. Anyway, thanks for the odt/zip info. Vieri --- On Wed, 5/15/13, Brian Barker b.m.bar...@btinternet.com wrote: I'd like to deploy a compiled Java macro with an ODT document. According to http://wiki.openoffice.org/wiki/Documentation/DevGuide/Scripting/Writing_Macros: If you want to deploy the macro to a document you need to place it in a Scripts/java directory within the document zip file. What does that mean exactly? I'm guessing, but I'm pretty sure I know the answer. Open Document Format files are zip archives; so the document zip file is the .odt document file itself. o Rename the ,odt file to change its extension to .zip. o Double-click to unzip the archive. o Create a new folder named Scripts in the same folder as the unzipped material and another named java within it. o Copy your macro into .../java. o Select all the files and rezip them into an archive. o Rename the archive to change the extension back to .odt. o Double-click to test. Depending on your operating system and file associations, you may be able to unzip and zip without renaming the files. Once you have embedded your macro, you will not need to do anything special when distributing your document file to others. I trust this helps. Hi :) I think the devs list might usually be the best place for this sort of thing but you just happen to catch this list at a particularly good time and it's been this way for years already. From my limited understanding of database programs isn't it better to use Queries for the SQL? Then the Form gets it's data from the Query. Presumably that way would refresh the data almost instantly? It looks like you might already be doing it that way. Are you using an external back-end for the Tables of data? If so which one? MySql/MariaDb, Postgresql, something else? Also is your form in Writer or in Base? Would it work better in Writer? Re: [libreoffice-users] Re: Possible to write reports with relationship data?
Let me give some example background to see if this can work. Let's say we have an animals database, for someone maintaining an animal shelter. Each animal has a list of medical care events and also a list of adoptions (some animals return to the shelter). The medicalCareEvents and adoptions tables each have a FK to the animals table. What I'm envisioning is a report that lists the fields for the animal, followed by an indented section showing a row for each medical care event, and another indented section showing adoptions for each animal. A query could potentially use a join to create individual rows composed of data from multiple tables, but that is really only practical for 1-1 relationships, or possibly 1-verysmallinteger relationships. If you still think this can work, could you explain how this would be done? If you base your mailmerge on a query (e.g. via a join) that fetches all of your treatment entries for a given animal via the FK and orders them, e.g. by date, then that should work. Steven, I am not sure I understand your question, so I may be offbase here (no pun intended). What you call requerying sounds like it may be the same as Refreshing in Base Forms. Have you tried the Refresh icon(s)? At the bottom of my forms, just about in the middle of the top toolbar, there are two refresh icons. The left one looks like a rotating arrow and has a Refresh help popup. The icon to the right of that icon looks like a radio button and a rectangle with two rotating arrows, one out of the radio button and one into the button. This icon has a help popup of Refresh Control. Whenever I change a table that a listbox is referring to, that change does not immediately get reflected in my form's listbox entries. I must click on the listbox (not the pulldown list, just highlight the listbox control itself), then click on the Refresh Control icon. Then the listbox should update. Clicking on the Refresh icon will refresh (reload?) the entire database and restart you back to record #1 again, as if you reopened the form. Refresh Control will just refresh the control that is selected. Hope this helps. Re: [libreoffice-users] Case function equivalent in Calc
Another way to state this is I'd like a Columns to Text function, but where I can specify semi-colon as the separator and it won't place two separators together consecutively. Thanks again, Carl On 5/15/13 4:16 PM, Carl Paulsen wrote: Anyone know if there is an equivalent to the Filemaker Pro Case function? Take 4 columns and concatenate with a semi-colon between the values, but not string together two semi-colons consecutively. Like: Phone Email Mail - Phone;Email;Mail Phone Mail - Phone;Mail Mail - Mail EmailMail - Email;Mail So semi-colons only occur if there's a value present and not at all if there's only one value present. Re: [libreoffice-users] Case function equivalent in Calc
All I've ever been aware of is nested IF statements, which get to be a royal pain. If there is a CASE equivalent (it's also present in just about any programming language), I'll be just as happy as you! Re: [libreoffice-users] I'm looking for a place where I can ask questions about programming Base applications, using LibreBasic and the API.
Indeed I would agree that this probably doesn't belong on dev channel - there we discuss code not how to's or feature requests. I actually would have just recommended the user list :) If that fails, the OOo forum is good, also our Ask site have some great contributors that know quite a bit. If it's a feature that you want I would recommend reporting a bug and marking it as an enhancement request: http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/BugReport Maybe just rephrasing the question and making a new thread where you say how do I might get some good responses from people who use Database often. It depends upon how you design the form and what information is contained in the listbox and the records. I have a form that contains a table. I also have a couple queries based upon the contents of that table. When I change the contents and refresh the table, the queries automatically refresh as well. For the queries, I use a table control rather than a control with a listbox. --Dan -- To unsubscribe e-mail to: users+unsubscr...@global.libreoffice.org Problems? http://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/mailing-lists/how-to-unsubscribe/ Posting guidelines + more: http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Netiquette List archive: http://listarchives.libreoffice.org/global/users/ All messages sent to this list will be publicly archived and cannot be deleted
Re: [libreoffice-users] Case function equivalent in Calc
So in the absence of a Case function, here's what I've done so far as a calculated solution. Note that the data I want to concatenate is in cells U3, V3, W3, and X3. In Y3, I put the following: =U3 IF(NOT(isempty(U3)),;,) V3 IF(NOT(isempty(V3)),;,) W3 IF(NOT(isempty(W3)),;,) X3 The idea is that I put together U3, a semicolon if U3 isn't empty (and nothing if it is), V3 and a semicolon if V3 isn't empty, W3 and a semicolon if W3 isn't empty, and X3. If any of the cells is empty, nothing will be added until the next cell that has data. Unfortunately, I'm getting a #NAME? error. I'm assuming some kind of syntax error. Any words of wisdom? Thanks a ton all. Carl On 5/15/13 5:13 PM, Dan Lewis wrote: On 05/15/2013 04:16 PM, Carl Paulsen wrote: Anyone know if there is an equivalent to the Filemaker Pro Case function? At long last I got this to work. Syntax is ISBLANK and not ISEMPTY - aaa. My Filemaker days are getting in my way. Replace all isempty below with ISBLANK and it works perfectly now. According to http://wiki.openoffice.org/wiki/Documentation/DevGuide/Scripting/Writing_Macros: If you want to deploy the macro to a document you need to place it in a Scripts/java directory within the document zip file. What does that mean exactly? Oh, yuck, feels dangerous. I know that Mr. Davies commented on this, so I will not expound on what he said, but, if you unzip your document and then start manually creating things and then re-zip the file, that feels rather arduous. I can't help but wonder if there is a way to access the internal storage structures directly do to this from a macro (which still would be ugly). If you do make this work, I am interested to hear about it. Try this: select the relevant text and then go to Format | Default Formatting (or Ctrl+M). This will remove local formatting and should leave you seeing the effects of your paragraph style. Note also that if you type immediately after some text with local formatting, that formatting is replicated in the new text. Local formatting can also be remembered even if you delete all the previous text. I trust this helps.
