you can add a small bluetooth keyboard.

some come in a kind of sleeve where you can fold the keyboard and the

propped up and the keyboard laid out flat. folded up, it all fits into
a woman's purse or a small satchel. the keyboard is pretty easy to use

Re: [libreoffice-users] LibreOffice paragraph styles exported to other software/formats?

Hi :)

Can you send them all as Doc?  if you can convert the DocX to Doc then it might
work better.  DocX can be a bit unpredictable at times.

Do the documents have lots of images, frames, tables and charts and stuff?
Also i'm just wondering if it's possible to send Pdfs of the documents in
addition to the documents themselves.  LibreOffice can use lossless compression
easily and remembers the settings for the next one.

Hello,

Apologies if this is a basic question. I've been given some documents to
format according to certain style guidelines. The files are mostly .docx
and .doc and must be sent off in this format. I work only with
LibreOffice. My questions is, if I format the articles using paragraph
and page styles rather than just directly changing the format in the
body of the document, will the formatting be maintained when the
documents are opened in MS Office? I am not concerned with small
discrepancies that can be tweaked later on, rather whether this method
of formatting generally transfers well. Again, sorry if it's a silly
question.

Many thanks.

Well, maybe not in a phone, but a 10" tablet is suitable enough to work with
office stuff.

Maybe the important point is to re-think the way the commands have to be
available to the user, fine-tuned for touch screens: drag&drop, automatic
context menu and so on.

For example, a simply way could be a setup wizard (always available) to
customized the various context menus resulting by the context.

Re: [libreoffice-users] Writer tab stops setting keeps reverting to .5" (solved)

2013-08-25 Thread Kracked_P_P---webmaster

Well that tab stop bug must have happened in 4.0.3 or 4.0.4, since it
was not in 4.0.2 Debian based install[s]. Yes, it is best to upgrade to
the newest of the versions that is not marked as an "early adopter" version.

https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/File:LibOReleaseLifecycle.png

"They" changed the graphic, so it is easier to read.

3.6.7 is the "conservative" version
4.0.5 is the "recommended" version
and
4.1.0 is the "early adopter" version.

 I'm using LO 4.0.4.2 on Windows 7.

Before moving to 4.0, I had my Writer tab stops set to .25" (using Tools
 - Options - Writer - General - Tab Stops). I set it once and it stayed
that way. But since moving to 4.0, it reverts to the default .5"
settingevery time I start Writer - even on existing documents - and I
have to redo my .25" setting.

Does anyone know if this is being fixed in 4.1, or how to cure the
 problem?

[libreoffice-users] Re: Mail merge manual field entry

2013-08-25 Thread Alex Thurgood

Le 23/08/2013 03:45, Carl Paulsen a écrit :

Hi Carl,

Thank you Alex. I'll give your ideas some thought. The key issue for
me is that I can manually enter "placeholders" for fields as text that
Salesforce can interpret for the merge on their platform (well, I think
I can but haven't been able to test it yet). What I can't do is enter
any LO commands that trigger a next record or next page that Salesforce
can interpret.

In the old report designer, before the Oracle Report Builder was
integrated, this was a feature of the report designer wizard, which
inserted a NextRecord (hidden field as I recall) field into a Writer
document and used variables to fill the form with data upon next
opening/running of the query supplying data to the form. So, in theory,
it should be attainable in some (possibly obscure) fashion.

All that said, I still don't really understand how LO handles mail
merges and it seems to be tailored to those who want to generate merges
with a Calc spreadsheet (even that should be simpler IMHO) or a Base dB
or a connected dB for someone who knows a little more.

Well, yes, that is what mailmerges are generally based on, some kind of
datasource which can be displayed/imported as a spreadsheet or a db
query, à la Excel for example, and then taking that datasource and
providing the means to insert the data to provide the mailmerge. Your
problem is that you don't have a datasource that LO can access. At a
minimum, LO requires either a query, a view, a CSV file, or an Excel or
LO spreadsheet. If you are using queries or views, then these have to be
reachable via the database functionality of LO, which means that you
have to have a corresponding connector or connection mechanism, e.g. via
a Basic macro that will setup the connection to your remote database
instance, execute the query, store the resultset in a stack or array of
some kind in a form accessible to LO, and then allow you to proceed to
mailmerge.

There is an extension that is supposed to help with mailmerges in AOO/LO
and which doesn't use the built-in mailmerge functionality :

http://extensions.libreoffice.org/extension-center/mail-merge-db

Note however, that the author of the extension states that it requires a
database in order to work (without specifying what kind of database). I
also don't know whether this extension works with a current version of LO.

There is also the following :
http://extensions.openoffice.org/en/project/fastmailmerge

but I have no idea whether it works with LO. It requires at least a
spreadsheet as a datasource in order to function.

It's not entirely clear what you are expecting as
your result here: do you just need a list in,
say, column B of these values - with nothing in
the cases where the value is not equal?  In B2, enter:
=IF(A2=A$1;A5;"")
and fill this down column B.  This will give a
list of the values you require, interspersed with
empty strings where the value in A does not equal A1.

Note that your sample list displays one problem
with your requirement: what would you like to
happen towards the bottom of your list when the
third cell below one that matches is off the end
of the list and therefore empty?

It is perhaps worth saying that if you run into a
problem such as this, it may well be sensible to
look back at the design of your
spreadsheet.  Perhaps there is an easier method
of achieving what you actually need.  If you
explain the original problem you are trying to
solve, someone may be able to give you more useful help.

Note that there are Portuguese-language (and
indeed Brazilian Portuguese) mailing lists: see

I trust this helps.
