[libreoffice-users] Re: Calc: Searching for values in a certain range string

2014-02-12 Thread zr1hpc
Lotto.ods http://nabble.documentfoundation.org/file/n4096842/Lotto.ods

Brian and other interested folk

Thanks for the formula! I am going to need a few days to see how it works,
but it certainly has promise, however I cannot see the different sheets that
the ods file contains.

Remember: There is one sheet for the tickets purchased, another sheet for
the draw results.
The background colour of a number on the tickets sheet is going to change
colour if it is the same as any number shown on the corresponding date of
the draw sheet.

Have a look at the file attached via Nabble for a better view, and no
misunderstandings.

Ascertain if on a certain date on the Tickets sheet, on the same date in
the corresponding draw sheet, if any of the numbers match. If so colour the
cell background of each matching number on that same date via conditional
formatting.

Example with fictitious data:
Ticket sheet
01/02/2014 02 05 07 35 37 39

Draw sheet
01/02/2014 37 07 09 35 05 16

Therefore the cells on the Ticket sheet holding the numbers 07, 35, 05 would
have a background colour that is not white :) If the 6th number on the
ticket and in the draw is the same the cell background needs to be a
different colour to the others.
This indicates to me that I have won some cash.

Hopefully this clarifies matters a bit and hope others can use the
attachment.

which version of Windows; Vista, Win8, Xp, Win7?

Can you find how to uninstall LibreOffice and then try reinstalling

not that is often enough to fix quite a few Windows problems.

Re: [libreoffice-users] WEEKNUM_ADD(ref;2)

I am not literate with regard to Excel. I understand that
WEEKNUM_ADD() in Calc returns the same value as WEEKNUM() does in
the non standards compliant Excel. Under what condition does that
value differ from what WEEKNUM() returns in Calc?

The explanations don't really tell me enough, so I suspect the way
forward with this is simply to test the two functions side by
side. This is what testing suggests to me:

As you say, WEEKNUM() follows the standard. In this case, a week
belongs to the year in which most (four or more) of its days lie. So
week one of any year can start as early as 29 December of the
previous year or as late as 4 January. There are 52 or 53 weeks in
each year. All weeks except the last have seven days. (That may
seem obvious, but read on!)

WEEKNUM_ADD() starts a new week - week one, of course - on 1 January,
but this is in general a short week, even as short as one day, as it
ends on the appropriate Saturday or Sunday. Counted this way, there
are 53 or 54 weeks in each year, and weeks at both ends of the year
can be short.

But this doesn't just affect days at the change of year: because of
these differences, week numbers may be out of step throughout the
year. Note also that selecting different values for the second
parameter - choosing your week to start on Sunday or Monday - will,
in the case of WEEKNUM(), sometimes affect which week is considered
week one and therefore also the week numbering throughout the year.

My .ods file includes calls to WEEKNUM() but the file needs to also
be saved as an .xls file to be shared with KingSoft Office so I can
print to PDF.

Why don't you just export as PDF from LibreOffice and share the PDF?

I trust this helps.

Yes. There are two things to do here: setting up a drop-down menu
from which values in column X can be selected, and then arranging
that the appropriate values appear in column Y.

o Select column X (or an appropriate range of it).
o Go to Data | Validity... | Criteria.
o For Allow, select Cell range.
o For Source, enter A$1:A$99 (or whatever).

Now each relevant cell in column X will have a drop-down selection
list, from which to choose each entry.

o In Y1, enter =VLOOKUP(X1;A$1:B$99;2;0) and fill or copy this down the column.

[libreoffice-users] Whole page-sized (background) picture/image in LibreOffice Writer 4.2.4

2014-02-12 Thread Community
Hi,

I'm in the process of creating a new stationary based on an image received from
a design agency.

The image is supposed to cover the whole page (A4), that is including the space
outside the defined page margin settings.

Walking down the path via format-page-background appears to be out of the
question as the image is then re-sized to fit into the page margins.

Another route would be inserting an image either into the page header (or
footer), and anchor this to a character there, or, alternatively anchor the
image to the page itself (format-image/picture-wrap: wrap through, in
background).

Only things with this approach, I cannot enter new/change existing text, as the
image appears to be in the foreground (albeit having been sent back/to the
background, and any existing text is displayed correctly), and whatever I do, I
only can edit this image and nothing else.

Am I doing something wrong/forgetting something here?
Isn't this--what I'm trying to achieve--possible at all?
Is it maybe a bug in LibreOffice?

Cheers!

Martin

What kind of trick is required to make the navigator work in the

You'll need a printer capable (unusually) of printing to the edge of
the paper, of course.

Walking down the path via format-page-background appears to be out
of the question as the image is then re-sized to fit into the page margins.

The solution is to set the page margins at zero and then to arrange
that the text still remains within the required smaller area. One
way would be to set empty headers and footers as spacing at the top
and bottom of the page, and to use a paragraph style with suitable
indents before and after text. Alternatively, you could use a frame
or a table to contain the text and position this where you
wanted. But I think the easiest and most effective solution is to
put all your text into a section, which can have horizontal indents
set to create your side margins, in conjunction with empty headers
and footers. A section has the advantage that it will expand as
necessary to accommodate text, which will flow naturally from page to
page within your contrived margins.

Only things with this approach, I cannot enter new/change existing
text, as the image appears to be in the foreground (albeit having
been sent back/to the background, and any existing text is displayed
correctly), and whatever I do, I only can edit this image and nothing else.

If you have the background image selected - so that the eight green
handles show - it can indeed be confusing to find how to get at the
text. But you can sometime do this by clicking outside the page area
(on the shaded window background) and then clicking back in the text region.

Isn't this--what I'm trying to achieve--possible at all? Is it maybe
a bug in LibreOffice?

I suspect that LibreOffice Writer - like other parallel products - is
aimed at word processing rather than print layout.

I trust this helps.

Re: [libreoffice-users] navigator works in one file but not another

Hello,
What version of LibreOffice are you using (4.1.4, 4.2, etc)? What
operating system are you using (Windows, Mac OS X, Linux, etc)? What
type (Windows: XP, Vista, 7, 8, 8.1, etc; Mac OS X: 10.9 Mavericks, 10.8

If the files you crated with LibreOffice do not contain any sensitive,

upload them somewhere so that others on this list and I can examine and
experiment with the files to try to track the reason as to why the page

You will have to use something like Sendspace

I hope this helps!

Re: [libreoffice-users] Printing selected rows from a spreadsheet

2014-02-12 Thread Tim Deaton
Years ago I frequently had the same problem. My first spreadsheet
(1987) was a shareware product called ExpressCalc. It had a very
convenient function called NOPRINT. If I put that function (or a
formula that evaluated to that function) in any cell on a particular
row, that row would be skipped when I printed the spreadsheet.

This function was very handy whenever I wanted to build a re-usable
table that might allow for 100 rows of data entry related
calculations, but in which not all rows are likely to be filled every
time. For instance, I might have an invoice sheet listing 30 different
possible items, but I only want the 5 that happen to have quantities
filled in to actually show up on the printout.

When I upgraded to Excel (1995), I chose Excel because (with help from
their tech support) I could do much the same thing using a couple of macros.

I've recently opened a feature request
(https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=74101) in hopes that the
folks with the programming skills would notice and add similar functions
to LibreOffice. If you think such a feature would be helpful to you,
please go to that bug and say so.

And Brian, I'd be interested in knowing that hint you gave Muriel.

[libreoffice-users] Neat Writer Feature -- Relative Font Sizes

2014-02-12 Thread Virgil Arrington
I just thought I’d share a neat feature I recently discovered in Writer.

The ability to set font sizes in styles as a percentage of the font size of a
base style.

For example, I often set documents in an 11 point font such as Palatino. My
headings are then at 14 or 16 points. But, if I decide to switch to Times New
Roman, I’ll increase my base font to 12 points. Then I have to go into my
heading styles and increase them accordingly. But...

I’ve learned I can set my heading styles as a percentage of my base style. In
the font size dialog box, rather than setting it at 14 points, I’ll set it at
125%. Then, whenever I change the size of my base font, my heading styles
automatically change based on the percentage. This technique saves a lot of
effort when changing font sizes in a document.

The key is to know what style is used as the base style for the heading styles.

Wouldn't you do that a different way? Create a table of items,
possibly with other data such as unit prices. Set up the invoice
separately. Enter item codes or names manually, or - better - use
Data | Validity... | Criteria | Allow | Cell range to create
drop-down menus in the invoice, where you could easily select the
five or so items you needed each time. In any case, you would then
use VLOOKUP() to harvest any associated data, such as item unit
price. This sounds much easier to me.

If you suppress rows you don't need, wouldn't the invoice end up a
different length depending on how many items you happened to
include? I think my way suggested above would keep the format of the
invoice consistent, no matter how many lines were included; unfilled
lines would be blank.

And Brian, I'd be interested in knowing that hint you gave Muriel.

She said File | Print... | Print | Selected cells wasn't working for
her. I didn't know why, so didn't have a solution, but I suggested a
number of possible workarounds:
o Copying the relevant rows to another sheet - perhaps temporarily -
and printing that sheet.
o Selecting the rows using a filter, in which case only the filtered
rows would be printed.
o Defining a print range consisting only of the required rows; then
only those rows would print.
o Using the Export as PDF function's Selection option and then simply
printing the resulting PDF.

In fact, she chose to select the required rows, copy them to a text
(Writer) document, and print that.

I trust this helps.
