CUPS still seems to be alive and well; in fact, I'm not sure how we could

It is listed in the Ubuntu repository, although has always been installed by
default on any installation I've done (admittedly, not a whole lot though).
If you use the Software Center, make sure to check any other additions you

If you need to install it separately, you can download it from

I hope this helps ...

[libreoffice-users] Typography Toolbar

2015-01-22 Thread CVAlkan
Is there any way to remove individual items from the typography toolbar? The
normal Customize Toolbars command doesn't list it. I'm using LibreOffice
4.3.3.2 on 64 bit Ubuntu 14.04 by the way.

There are two reasons I would like to trim it down.

The first, and most important, is that the Graphite implementation of
LibreOffice is incomplete - in itself not a big problem, but will cause a
system lockup if a feature like name is inadvertantly clicked.

The second is simply that I don't anticipate ever using some of the features
and would like to reclaim the space.

The Alternative Search toolbar is also missing from the Customize Toolbars
menu, but since that only has one item, isn't a big issue, although it would
be nice to just move that item on to the regular tool bar where the normal
search and replace are located.

Is this code I can hack myself? If so, where is it located?

Any help would be appreciated.

No, you had to rename the user profile /Library/Application Support/Foo
accordingly before restarting LO - this was the advice we were giving

We are talking past each other here. What I meant is whether a
LibreOffice.app renamed to Foo.app would have expected the user

the data at ~/Library/Application Data/Foo/ if you had also renamed

Hi :)
Brilliant! Thanks :) I use Nabble and can hardly ever find anything
from the archives. So, that's another win for the news-groups vs
pretty gui styles.

Suddenly got a lot of other printers giving me a bit of grief but they
should be quick fixes - Such as i didn't realise the foam rollers
(about 1-3cm long) need occasional dusting to help avoid paper-jams.
1 at the front and 2 hidden up inside where the paper-tray goes. So
this is already on a back-burner for now and it might even be a week
before i can try to tackle it again!

Anyway, so many thanks to everyone who has answered, incl Tim Lloyd

Paul,

  Yes.

I don't know much about your problem, but Googling shows there may be
a relationship.

See https://www.sqlite.org/c3ref/open.html

According to that web page, UTF-8 is the default for sqlite3_open() and
sqlite3_open_v2(). In that case, having LANG=en_US.UTF-8 should not be a
reason why Base cannot establish the connection.
Well, yes and no, much to my chagrin, when using the copy command on
Ubuntu, I discovered files that would not copy as they used a different
encoding in the file name.
They displayed normally do to naturalization, but when copied to a
NTFS formatted disk, refused.

I eventually resolved the problem using convmv command.
convmv - converts filenames from one encoding to another.

The nice thing about this command is it does have a test mode and will
not change anything until you tell it to.

Hence, a command that runs properly, but cannot recognize a file name.

Another shot in the dark.

Thanks,

Rich

I do not know if you can multi-boot two different versions of Ubuntu

Be nice to have 13.10 for my photo printing on my default photo printer
and 14.04LTS or newer for the rest of the work.

As someone told me - off list - CUPS should be installed with the

so until you need it for a dependency for a printer driver.

Errr, i think the drivers and apps and such are still called CUPS but
i think the forums and websites retired didn't they? Is there
somewhere such as LinuxPrinting.Org? I might have to have more of a

I do not know what is the replacement to CUPS, since every drive I use for
Ubuntu and Mint needs CUPS. SO, I install in manually via the standard
package manager for the distro. My default printer is the CUPS PDF
system. That way I have not accidental printing to any specialized
printer that I have on my network, which saves paper and ink.

At last my work-place has a couple of machines entirely using just
Kubuntu/Ubuntu and no Windows at all.

With Kubuntu LibreOffice couldn't open files on the file-server but i
fudged it by installing the whole Ubuntu DE (Unity DE and tweaks) and
now people have no problems using Kubuntu. Printing to the
photocopier or the BW laser printer is fine.

The only problem is trying to print to the colour printer, an Oki
C810, for which there seem to be hundreds of linux drivers but none of
them seem to work. Actually i have only tried about a dozen drivers
but it's tricky to test them especially if my boss is around.

Which version are you using for Ubuntu-based OS? I have some Canon printers
no longer work properly when Ubuntu 14.04 came out. Needed dependencies not
longer we supported by 14.04, but was supported by 13.10.

Also although the Kubuntu machines have no trouble printing to the BW
photocopier but Ubuntu ones can't cope. I have no idea how to find
the drivers on the Kubuntu machines and copy them onto the Ubuntu
ones.

amazing things and seem to have a lot of experience doing exactly this

don't have.

Actually your email seem to simplify the instructions rather well! :)

please let us know and don't worry about questions seeming stupid to

learning here too.

First thing I loaded LO 4.4.0.2, and then 4.3.6.2 and the current
 (2015-01-21) 4.5.0 master.

Steps couldn't be simpler. In fact parallel install is done almost the same
as with the Windows .msi packages

Put which ever of the installs into /Applications just like any package
install. Drag and drop there once the .dmg is downloaded and mounted.
Launch by double clicking the folder in /Applications.

For the additional installs, they could go into /Applications as well just
 with different names.

But they can go anywhere. For example onto user's Desktop, Documents,
Downloads etc... just mount the downloaded .dmg package and drag the
LibreOffice or LibreOfficeDev .app directory object to where you want it to
reside. It does not need to go into /Applications.

Then use Spotlight to find the bootstraprc file and edit it in TextEdit.
Just as with Windows or Linux builds, edit the
 UserInstallation=$SYSUSERCONFIG/LibreOffice/4 to be
 UserInstallation=$ORIGIN/../Data/settings

The $ORIGIN variable is parsed internally by LibreOffice and then creates
the entire user profile within the app package, in the example
Data/settings but the directory names for the user profile can actually be
anything you like. They are fully structured profiles and are portable.

When ready to launch the build, open the .app folder with Finder and locate
the soffice executable and Control Open it. You can create an app launcher
for it if you don't want to dig down into the folder every time.

Easy as pie... I had all three flavors running simultaneously and could do
 side-by-side comparisons of the UI.

Re: [libreoffice-users] LibreOffice Viewer (Beta) Android

2015-01-22 Thread Tim---Kracked_P_P---webmaster

There is a font issue for me.

The sample .doc file text [created on the tablet] was in some non-latin
format, such as used in India or an Asian country.

Since I use English as the language for the tablet, that is a problem.

I downloaded it to a tablet running Android 4.4.2 - KitKat.

Subject: [tdf-announce] LibreOffice Viewer (Beta) now available for Android
Berlin, January 21, 2015 - The Document Foundation (TDF) is happy to see
the LibreOffice Viewer (Beta) for Android released in the Google Play
Store, allowing mobile users to access Open Document Format (ODF) files
from devices such as tablets and smartphones.

The application, created by Collabora, is available from the following
link:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.collabora.libreoffice

The first release of LibreOffice Viewer handles text documents and basic
presentations. Support for spreadsheets have been included in an early
form, while support for more complex presentations is planned for a
future release. Users are invited to download and test the application,
although care is advised for production environments.

Support for Android is the result of cooperation between organizations
as well as individual contributors, said Michael Meeks, VP of
Productivity at Collabora, LibreOffice's open ecosystem has again
proved its ability to bring diverse groups together to produce great
software without restrictions”.

The mobile app fulfils the wishes of many users who access ODF files on
the go, and is also able to read proprietary document formats from other
suites including Microsoft Office.

“This release is the first of a new series of mobile applications” said
Björn Michaelsen, a Director of The Document Foundation. “Individuals,
companies and organizations are encouraged to participate in the open
development process by joining the LibreOffice community.

The LibreOffice Viewer (Beta) has been created by Collabora with the
support of SMOOSE. It is built on foundational work by the LibreOffice
community, SUSE, and the Mozilla Corporation, with additional
development by Jacobo Pérez of Igalia, and Andrzej Hunt and Ian Billet
as part of Google Summer of Code.

I do not know if you can multi-boot two different versions of Ubuntu

I'm pretty sure I have done so in the past, but not doing so now.

Wouldn't it be more convenient to install 13.10 in a VirtualBox? Then
you could just open it when you need it instead of having to boot to a
particular Ubuntu.

Reagrds, Jim

Be nice to have 13.10 for my photo printing on my default photo printer
and 14.04LTS or newer for the rest of the work.

As someone told me - off list - CUPS should be installed with the
distro, but in my experience not all of the versions I have installed do
so until you need it for a dependency for a printer driver.

Hi :)
Ahh, mostly the Ubuntu's at work are 14.04. So i might have a try at
a LiveUsb or multi-boot with an earlier version alongside the existing
set-ups or something.

Thanks Tim ! :)

Errr, i think the drivers and apps and such are still called CUPS but
i think the forums and websites retired didn't they? Is there
somewhere such as LinuxPrinting.Org? I might have to have more of a
look tomorrow or sometime.
Thanks so far and regards from
Tom :)

I am just hoping some kind person will signpost me to the proper
forums so that they can help me with a couple of printing issues. I
gather that CUPS is no longer used but i'm not sure and i don't know
what has replaced it.

I do not know what is the replacement to CUPS, since every drive I
use for
Ubuntu and Mint needs CUPS. SO, I install in manually via the
standard
package manager for the distro.

I have some Canon
printers
no longer work properly when Ubuntu 14.04 came out. Needed
dependencies not
longer we supported by 14.04, but was supported by 13.10.

Also although the Kubuntu machines have no trouble printing to the BW
photocopier but Ubuntu ones can't cope. I have no idea how to find
the drivers on the Kubuntu machines and copy them onto the Ubuntu
ones.

Tom :)

Re: [libreoffice-users] Re: Printing from Linux, Kubuntu/Ubuntu

2015-01-22 Thread Tim---Kracked_P_P---webmaster

Yes, I agree with you, BUT. . .
When I upgrade to a newer version of Ubuntu via the Update Manager
system, I get a message about CUPS being depreciated and no longer
used. So it is Removed from the upgraded system. That is when I have
to reinstall it, along with my CUPS-PDF package. Of course that package
gives the depreciated message as well, but I know of no other PDF file
printer for Ubuntu either.

CUPS still seems to be alive and well; in fact, I'm not sure how we could
get along without it.

It is listed in the Ubuntu repository, although has always been installed by
default on any installation I've done (admittedly, not a whole lot though).
If you use the Software Center, make sure to check any other additions you
might require (I have everything but OpenPrinting installed).

If you need to install it separately, you can download it from
http://www.cups.org/software.php.

I hope this helps ...
