There is a way to define which font substitutes for which fonts.
ToolOptionsLibreOfficeFonts has a substitute table option to define
the substitutions.

As for which font is automatically used if you do not have a document
font installed, I have not seen where it will show which one is used. I
am told that there is some system that will look for the best font that
is installed, which looks most like the one needed. If you have a free
substitute font, like the one that is defined for replacing Calibri
and other proprietary MS fonts.

It is nice to have MS Core fonts available for Linux, but some of the
newer ones are being work on for very similar free version. There are a
lot of online sources for free fonts and lists for which free fonts
looks like which paid/proprietary fonts. I have seen some version
update notes stating that LibreOffice has various new fonts being
installed with these new versions. I know that there is a lot of
interest to make sure LO has the best free fonts available to make
viewing/editing MS Office documents with less and less font substitution
issues. For those that LO does not have as part of their install, you
can always find the best free substitute fonts, for Linux and Windows,
from online sources. I have over 100,000 fonts in my font folders, most
specialty fonts though. I found that there are a lot of great fonts out
there that are so similar to paid fonts, that you will not have any
document issues. You just have to look for them. Googling for the
substitute font is really the best way to start your search though.

PPA installs are fine, if you want to run the one that is currently on the
 PPA list.

Personally, I have not changed over to the 4.4.0.x package. I usually
wait for the .2 or .3 version before I switch.

Because of an extended illness, I have not started testing 4.4.0.x on
one of my systems. I do this before I install the new line onto my

It might be helpful to have someone to post the PPA script here so those

Thanks, Tom ! Now it's incumbent upon us to attempt to help the OP,

required for certain of the programmes in the LO package to be installed in
Windows. Pranzar tells us that he has a version of Java 8

installed ; I wonder if the installed version is the 64 or the 32-bit
version. I have seen claims to the effect that LO - and for that matter OO
- require a 32-bit version of Java to function in Windows ; however, on my
own Windows machine, I currently have a 64-bit Java 8 Update 31 installed
and, as noted previously, all the LO programs work well there. In any event
this is a parameter with which Pranzer might wish to play - if he currently
has a 32-bit version installed he might wish to install a 64-bit version
and *vice versa*

I wish him the best of luck !

So while folks wait for the Docear project to get a move on, the Zotero

Personally, I still think Thompson-Reuters is missing the boat by not
resuming CWYW development support for ODF (LO 4, AOO 4 and kin)--and

Congrats!! Nicely done! :)

Yeh, that surprised me too. I had assumed it would work the same way as
the Windows installer 'should' do.
Congrats and regards from

Hi :)
Ahh, i thought it wasn't possible to deselect any of the components in a

particular advantage - except that it makes it more like MS Office bundles

Please do mind that Calibri is a Microsoft proprietary font strictly
connected to a Windows/MS Office license, which cannot be used if you do
not have such a license. This is clearly stated in the Windows/MS Office
EULA. LibreOffice offers a Calibri replacement, Carlito, which has a
free font license and can therefore be downloaded and installed on every
operating system without infringing the license.

Correct. I added the ppa, did a refresh, and was offered the new versions
in synaptic.

(Irrelevant probably, but synaptic then refused to actually do the upgrade
- but this has happened lately for various packages, not just LO. Using apt
(or was it apt-get?) directly performed all the upgrades correctly.)

Mike, I use the LO PPA to install all the upgrades to my 64-bit Linux Mint
box (currently 17.1)
, which means that they are installed automatically via the Update Manager
- i e, I don't have to look for them in Synaptic or use «apt-get» in a
terminal to install them. Very convenient, but as I recently mentioned on
another thread, Base seems to be missing from the latest version (4.4.0.3)
installed on this computer - in any event, when I click the Base icon in
LibreOffice nothing at all happens, and when I enter «soffice --base» in a
terminal, LibreOffice opens not to Base, but to Writer !...

I'm not a frequent user of Base, but I can't recall encountering this
problem with previous versions of LO on Mint. I note that all LO services,
including Base, work just fine on my Windows 64-bit 8.1 box. Any
suggestions as to what may be wrong and how to fix it would be greatly
appreciated !...

Henri

PPA installs are fine, if you want to run the one that is currently on
the PPA list.

Personally, I have not changed over to the 4.4.0.x package. I usually
wait for the .2 or .3 version before I switch.

Because of an extended illness, I have not started testing 4.4.0.x on
one of my systems. I do this before I install the new line onto my
main/default system.

It might be helpful to have someone to post the PPA script here so
those who want to try it can get the correct install procedure.
