Re: [libreoffice-users] Conditional formatting question

2015-07-04 Thread Tom Davies
Hi :)
The dynamic methods are more scalable (or just extend a little) and easier
to replicate. Also the original question looked like it required a less
static approach. With the static approach you need to remember to do 2
actions and try to remember what the reason/rule was for the different
back-grounds. Each approach has pros/cons.

Anyway, congrats on solving the problem in the way that suits your own
use-case the best :))
Regards from
Tom :)

Thomas, my experience with downloading newer versions of LibreOffice on
Linux Mint accords with yours, i e, the new version is installed *alongside*
the older one. The latter is easy to remove, both via Synaptic and from the
menu. As others have mentioned, installing the LibreOffice PPA is one way
of making certain that one always has the latest stable version ; I use it
myself. Why you can't get extensions to work on the new version is,
however, beyond me ; perhaps someone else who frequents our forum knows

Here it might be worth noting that the latest version of Linux Mint, 17.2
Rafael, has now been released with a mechanism that allows for an upgrade
to be done directly from the Update Manager ; I did this last night and it
took all of 2-3 minutes. The version of LibreOffice that comes with LM 17.2
is 4.4.3

How did you do that?

If you'd added the PPA deb
http://ppa.launchpad.net/libreoffice/ppa/ubuntu trusty main all you
would have had to do is an upgrade.

In a terminal do
sudo apt-get purge libreoffice*

That should remove all your versions of LO.
Then see here for how to install via PPA:
http://linuxpitstop.com/upgrade-libreoffice-4-4-4-on-ubuntu/

As you will have removed ALL your versions of LO then you will have to
edit the final command to

sudo apt-get install libreoffice

To have the latest version I recommend remove installed versions, add
PPA repositories and install from there.

[libreoffice-users] remove older version

2015-07-04 Thread Thomas Blasejewicz
Good evening

I made a fresh install of Mint 17.1, 64-bit on a Dell Optiplex 745 machine.
Mint comes with LibreOffice 4.2.6.3.
Since there is a newer version (4.4.4.3) available, I downloaded and
installed it.
However, I now have under (Mint) Menu -> Office TWO Libreoffice items
each (Writer, Calc etc.).
In the newer version I am not able to modify / install an extensions.
I get errors like:

"Error while installing extension Alternative searching. The error
message is: an error occurred during file opening
The extension will not be installed."

"Error reading data from the Internet.
Server error message: Could not read status line: Connection reset by peer."

"General Internet error has occurred."

Somehow I suspect, the old package gets in the way (this kind of trouble
with extensions has NEVER happened
on any computer with ANY OS before) and I would like to remove it ...
but don't know how.
Software Manager and Synaptic Package Manger show only ONE version of
LibreOffice: 4.4.4.3.

Is there a trick to do this?
What are the chances this will solve the extension problem?
I am also wondering why the newer version did not replace the older one.

Thank you.

OK, in stead of an dynamic setting I reverted to manual setting (makes the
sheet faster too).

I set autofilter on the column, selected all rows not empty, and set the
background color...
Simple and fast.

Why do something dynamic if the data is not that dynamic.

Yes. I am aware of that AND totally agree with you. However, translation
agencies keep sending me Excel files for translation or
editing all the time. I have been trying to convince them for 20 years,

So far with no success at all. That is why I have to cope with these

I don't know, but I am pretty sure you can make a macro that does that

A macro. OK, I will try that.

[libreoffice-users] customize keyboard (font color)

2015-07-04 Thread Thomas
Good evening
I working with Calc, checking translations made by someone else.
I would like to mark certain words within the text in red or any color.
For Writer I used:
Tools -> Customize -> Keyboard -> Format -> "Font color fill" and
assigned a shortcut key.

In Calc however, there is no "Font color fill"and ANY shortcut I assign
to "Font color"
brings up the "Cell Format" dialog box.

Is it not possible to assign a shortcut key that will change the font
color of the particular word/text
I am working on in a particular cell?
If there is, how do I achieve that?

Thank you.
