This sounds like data on your hard disk got corrupted. You can try and
remove the folder

   C:\Users\Taang\AppData\Roaminig\LibreOffice\4\user\uno_package\cache

with all its content, and it should get resurrected on the next start of

(To be more precise, removing that folder loses all the extensions that
are "Installed for current user" and requires you to re-install them.
Another option should be to only remove the sub-folder

C:\Users\Taang\AppData\Roaminig\LibreOffice\4\user\uno_package\cache\registry

and then manually in "Tools - Extension Manager..." re-enable all the
extensions that are "Installed for current user" and which will have
become disabled due to removing that sub-folder.)

It works also with a range selection or even with multiple selected
ranges as long as you are aware that the dialog shows the conditional
format of _one_ cell which is the currently active cell within the
current range selection. All relative references are relative to this
single cell and adjust to the other cells when you finish the dialog.

The relative references in a c.f. behave exactly like in a cell formula
which is entered into a range of cells using Alt+Enter.
Test: Select a column of cells, say X1:X5, type =Y1 and hit Alt+Enter.
The c.f. dialog behaves in the same way in respect to the active input
cell and the other selected cells.

Hi :)
Stephan Bergman's answer is a more precise and elegant version of the
re-name/reset the entire User Profile answers. The Uno Cache is a
sub-sub-folder within the User Profile.

So, if you have already tried renaming/resetting the User Profile then you
have already done this. If you haven't already tried renaming the entire
User Profile then Stephan's answer is a far more elegant answer and
therefore worth trying first.

Hi Tom,
I've not had a good experience with AndrOffice - however the LO Viewer
(from the Document Foundation) seems to work very well. There's also a
developers option to enable simple editing, although I've not yet used it.
The LO Viewer downloads to the device, so you don't need to be online
whereas AFAIK all the others need internet access...

YMMV.

My opinion is that renaming a folder (directory) is much safer than removing
(deleting) it until a problem is fully resolved. That way you have the option
to recover personal data (options, plugins, etc.) from the uncorrupted portion
of the old before it's gone or to perform a post mortem analysis of the problem
after you recover from it by comparing the old folder and the new to see what
was corrupted.

I'm a Linux geek and a former mainframe systems programmer which might
influence my opinion so YMMV. Don't let this paragraph derail the discussion of
the problem.

Re: [libreoffice-documentation] Re: [libreoffice-users] Need help To convert Excel Sheet to Libre sheet

2015-09-14 Thread Tom Davies
Hi :)
As you probably know the Indian Government is making a strong push to free
themselves from the vendor lock-ins created by using non-OpenSource
products.

So, it is possible there may even be funding to help with this sort of
thing or there may well be some organisation, or conglomeration of
organisations to help with this sort of work.

Almost certainly you may well be able to find someone local who can do the
re-programming either as a one-off for just this Excel-Calc migration or as
a part-time employee/consultant to help with similar jobs in the future or
to help as 2nd/3rd tier in-house IT Support for any issues that may "crop
up" in the whole migration away from all the Microsoft and other
proprietary products.

One of the advantages of OpenSource is that you don't have to wait until
some profit-making organisation decides on the value to them of the help
you need. With an OpenSource program you can pay someone to do it for you,
on your priorities, or even have a go yourself. If your code is of good
enough quality then it might well be added to the main program. Many
organisations find that paying for a dev to work on their own issues is
still cheaper than paying licensing fees as well as giving them more
control. Quite a lot of the development of LibreOffice is due to many
organisations co-operating with each other in this way through The Document
Foundation.

Tom :)

AndrOffice is a port of OpenOffice but the interface was not redesigned so
it's unusable in a mobile phone (maybe on a 10" tablet it could work)

LibreOffice Viewer is... a viewer (and absurdly slow). I realize that at
some point it will have editing functions but at the moment it is a huge
download just to view files. The main advantage is that is supports ODF

I use WPS Office (formerly Kingston Office) but it is not Open Source. It is
a reverse-code software from an unknown company, so use at your own risk...
The usability is quite good even on a mobile phone. IMO it is currently the
best option. It doesn't support ODF, only MS formats (old binary and XHTML)

All of these are installed on the phone and work with files on the phone (no
need to connect to the "cloud")

Finally there is Microsoft Office... The interface is not bad (but inferior
to WPS) and it works with local files but requires an account to synchronize
at some point to the "cloud". I was not very impressed. I can't remember if
it worked with ODF...

Hope this helps (and looking forward to read other opinions :) )
Pedro

Hi :)
Thanks all :) So it sounds like AndrOffice and Kingsoft are worth trying.

I had thought about making my exchange-rate spreadsheet into a database.
I'm sure it would be far better, and would allow a purpose-built UI
front-end but the spreadsheet route is plenty good enough for this trip.

The main thing is having the functionality off-line, and from
recommendations from people i trust so i am really glad to have had good
responses so quickly from so many people here so quickly. I'm going to
look-up some 3rd party articles too but i don't trust them as much as i
trust everyone here.
Many thanks and regards from

AndrOpenffice is a huge download, but is usable offline. It is also
rather clunky, and not really optimized for use with a touch screen, as
it basically just draws the whole OOo interface, which is far too fiddly
for fingers and touch screens. If your tablet has a keyboard and mouse
pointer, well it actually works pretty well most of the time (except for
Base, which is even more unstable than usual).

The LibreOffice Viewer for Android is just that - a viewer. You can't
edit documents with it (unlike AndropenOffice), and it is pretty
hopeless at displaying all the files in a given directory on the tablet
or phone. For some reason, someone thought that it would be useful to
cripple the built-in file finder, so as to list only those files which
are ODF.

So, if you have an Android tablet with a keyboard, AndrOpenOffice is
currently still the winner with regard to ODF import and editing.

Re: [libreoffice-users] Android version

2015-09-14 Thread jorge
Hi Tom and all:

I've used AndrOffice in my tablet. It has improved step by step. Now I
think it is, in general, stable for general perfomance that I've used
it. It has digital mouse and other special things.

Another program that I've used is WPS (Kingsoft Office) but I think it
isn't free software like LibreOffice but it is free an usually is
stable.

My experience with my tablet (10 inch) is that the screen is to small
to work seriusly (For example to the job) or using digital keybord. To
modify something fast is ok and so usefull and help a lot, or to review
a file already finished.

I hope this words help you and your friend,

Regards,

Jorge Rodríguez

Re: [libreoffice-users] Android version

2015-09-14 Thread Oogie McGuire
Why not take one of the free or inexpensive purpose built exchange rate apps
for Android? Some of them will download updated exchange rate data when
connections are available and all the ones I looked at briefly allow you to run
the conversions offline.

I think that would be a much better option than trying to force that into a
spreadsheet type app.

The app (WPS) is also designed to be as similar to MS office as possible. WPS
stands for Writer, Presentation, Spreadsheet.

Going off topic, do NOT try installing the Windows version of WPS on the same
Windows computer with LO. It does not play well with LO.

[libreoffice-users] LO Writer 5 loses recent documents list

2015-09-14 Thread MR ZenWiz
Since I upgraded to LO 5.0.1, I've noticed that the Writer seems to
lose the recent documents list at random.

This morning I edited a document and it had all the ones I've worked
on recently in the list. An hour later, it had only three, none of
which were the one I'd worked on and most of the ones I have worked on
were gone.

What's up with that?

Thanks.

No, it's very easy. The security properties of the PDF manuals say
"Commenting: Allowed" and a suitable viewer (even my freeware Adobe
Reader) will allow addition of notes, comments, sticky notes, stamps,
even audio, as well as formatting such as highlighting. Just what you need.

Yes, Thank you Brian. I knew where I wanted to go, but took a wrong turn
and got lost. I now have no idea why I missed the obvious.
Also, thanks for reminding me about the "+STYLE(IF" alternative.
Guess I was having a brain deadlock day. :(

[libreoffice-users] LO 5 Documentation

2015-09-14 Thread dave boland
All,

Does anyone know when the LO 5 documentation will be available? If not,
or if it may be awhile, would it be worth going to the bother of
printing the 4.2 docs for Calc and Base? I know there are changes to
Calc, but my guess is that the 4.2 docs may still be worth printing if
it will be a while. Don't know about Base.

Thanks,
Dave

AndrOffice works off line. However, your friend should test it before
he goes. Also, while it works on a tablet, I'd hate to use it on a phone.

There are currency converters, on Google Play, that might be more
appropriate, though I haven't used any of them.

Soft felt tip pens are not so damaging :-))

Seriously, grab the ODT editions from
https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Documentation/Publications
then you can add all the notes you want. Maybe you could even finish up
contributing your edits to the doc project. :) Yes?

The number of changes vary from module to module. Unfortunately, it's
not just a case of "plonking" new bits of text into revisions of the
existing documents. There are a number of other aspects that slow down
the editing/reviewing process, such as screen captures for interface
changes and revised instructions for default menu/toolbar items that
have been moved, added and removed. Compared to previous documentation
revisions there have been massive changes in these areas and there are
more to come in the next releases.

In addition to the above, the main reason for the delay in docs for
version 5 is the tiny number of (overworked) people working on them. We
have been very fortunate to have the "Base Handbook" for 5 near
completion, thanks to the German language project (mainly Robert
Großkopf), who not only created the original, but also did most of the
"heavy lifting" translating it into English.

The short answer to your question is that the 5 docs are not much more
that a dot on the horizon, so go with the 4.2 docs for now.

Why print them? Do you have access to a computer? If so, you can
search the documentation and read it on your display!

Brian,

Well, I tried that. The problem was all the marks and words I made on
the monitor (crib notes) - they ruined my monitor :-)) .

Actually, that is the point. I tend to write things in the margins to
clarify a point, or an example, etc. Tough to do that with the PDF
version.

In any event, the Ver. 5 docs. are not out yet, so we come back to my
question - how close are the 4.2 docs? I looked at the change log, but
I never get a good feel for the changes until I start using something.
In the case of Calc, the changes to areas I need seem to be minor.
