Might this be a problem with the font you are using?

[libreoffice-users] Re: Ancient Greek Extension Problem

2016-08-17 Thread CVAlkan
Hi Jonathon:

I'm primarily interested in Attic Greek, as my current concentration is on
the works of Aristotle, and even more particularly in his Organon collection
(probably the best relational database design book ever written, once you
figure out what he's getting at with that in mind). Unfortunately, I'm
installing many, many bits of software on a new installation piece by piece,
so likely won't be able to test it for real until perhaps next weekend as,
surprise, it's not the major thing I need to get working.

One of my (other and many) gripes related to Attic Greek is that the same
distinctions aren't very consistent in the font glyphs I have - I prefer the
ancient form of the circumflex rather than the modern form which looks to me
like a misplaced tilde. I guess I'm just too old to be satisfied anymore.

I'll try to remember to post back on how well this all works when I get a
chance. As I said earlier, it never occurred to me that anyone else had any
interest in this stuff.

This is impossible tho. If I deleted these sections I would have had to have
deleted them separately as they were not together. And also if I had of
deleted them, the footnotes would have disappeared also? I would have had to
have highlighted each paragraph and deleted them and made sure I didn't
delete the citation... I remember perfectly saving my paper, exiting Libre
Office Writer and then going to bed. There's just no way.

I also don't appear to have any backups and I wrote that in one day so I
don't have another format saved.

The last time I looked at the extension, it didn't include Katharevousa,

how those three are segregated from each other, and Attic Greek.

[libreoffice-users] setting default save directory?

2016-08-17 Thread pfyre
I've learned to live with this quirk. But I would love to know if there
is a way to stop LibreOffice from automatically wanting to save files to
'OneDrive>Documents>'?

I've set the default directory to 'This PC>Documents>' and have done a
search on help for this issue but no help there. Each and every time I
try to save the first document after first opening LibreOffice - it
wants to save the file to 'OneDrive>Documents>'. Once I change to
directory to 'This PC>Documents>' it saves where I want it to and
continues save to the directory I want. Until the next time I first open
LibreOffice.

I tried to save one of my own documents as MS 2003 XML, and it also contains

is severely broken, and it should be repaired, or at least be disabled as long

Given the popularity of Ancient Greek (really?), I expected some
half-hearted response sometime six months from now, but FOUR useful

as well.

I mainly wanted the spell checker, as I already use iBus for easy typing in
several scripts, but thanks much to all in the LibreOffice chorus - it now
seems to be working just as I'd hoped.

3000+ words in the word count and 6 pages in the properties but I
can only see headers, some footnotes and two small paragraphs.

If I rename this as a .docx it also opens in OpenOffice as well as
the Microsoft Word Viewer showing only those two pages. Examining the
XML itself in Internet Explorer or a plain text viewer confirms that
the small amount of text that you are seeing is all there is in the file.

you can see in this image that there is 3362 words however only
showing two pages of around 300-400 words. This second picture shows
the 6 pages that it says it has.

Examining the raw XML again shows that the figures of 6 pages, 3362
words, 20511 characters, and 55 paragraphs are coded in the file
itself, and evidently LibreOffice is repeating those without
calculating values itself. If you save a copy as .odt (but beware:
see below and look for back-up copies first), I think you will see
that you stimulate LibreOffice to recalculate the figures and come up
with 30 paragraphs, 499 words, and 2974 characters.

So the material you have lost is simply not in this file.

o As someone has already said, if this was the first time you saved
the document in a new format, you should still have the previously
saved version in the older format, which will not have been
overwritten. Look in your own folders for Dissertation.odt (or whatever).

o Look in Tools | Options.. for the path to Backups. Navigate there
and look for Dissertation.bak. If you find it, *make a copy in your
own document folders*, change the extension to .odt (or whatever it
might have been), and hope that it contains your lost work.

o Go back to your most recent external back-up copy of the document
and continue working from there.

I trust this helps.

I looked into the file, and when I open it in LO (5.2), it indeed says 3362
words, 20511 characters. But that is just a number stored in the file. As soon
as you do something (like add a space), it has to recalculate the number of
words and it comes down to 292 words, 2980 characters. I looked inside the xml
file, and that really is all there is. There is no other hidden or invisible
text. So if this xml file is all you have, I am afraid the rest is lost.

I saved it as ODT in the folder but I don't know if that will reach you also or
if it is just a local copy for myself.

Yes, I see the same thing. But if you follow the links back you get to :

http://members.hellug.gr/sng/ancientgreekoxt/index.html

from where you can download the latest beta version, 1.6.beta4.1.

This installs ok in LO Writer 5.1.4.2 but I have no use for it so can't
comment on how it works.

Possible worth giving it a go while waiting for LO website to correct
their links.

monday and I'm having a nightmare right now.

if i open the document in anything other than Libre Office Writer, it only
appears in formula or code.

I am going to attach the document now.

[libreoffice-users] Ancient Greek Extension Problem

2016-08-17 Thread CVAlkan
Hi:

I attempted to add the "AncientGreek 1.5.5 (Apr 17, 2016)" extension, and
received nothing but 404 errors.

I suspect the problem is that the extension (as well as the link URLs) is
now labeled "AncinetGreek-1.5.5" (note the swap of i and e in the name). I
attempted to "correct" the URL in the browser, but gave up after a few
tries.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks.

Hi Tom:

The e-mail users@global.libreoffice.org not accept attachment. To share
your document with us you can upload it to other sites like Dropbox, and
then send an email to this list with the link of the document on that
site and we can download to analize.

Regards,

Jorge

[libreoffice-users] XML document

2016-08-17 Thread Tom Morton
Hello,

I was writing my dissertation yesterday using Libre Office Writer. I
accidentally saved it as 2003 XML document.

I had written 3000+ words and now I can not get the words back.

However, when I open the document in Libre Office Writer, It comes up
saying that there is 3000+ words in the word count and 6 pages in the
properties but I can only see headers, some footnotes and two small
paragraphs. My hand in is on monday and I'm having a nightmare right now.

you can see in this image that there is 3362 words however only showing two
pages of around 300-400 words.

This second picture shows the 6 pages that it says it has.

if i open the document in anything other than Libre Office Writer, it only
appears in formula or code.

I am going to attach the document now.

Thanks for your help in advance.

Tom
