Thanks to the Harfbuzz font renderer added about LO 5.3 or early 5.4, a
lot of special characters like ligatures, small caps and nut fractions
should be added automatically if the font includes them.

You can also set up software keyboard locales to use advanced
typographical features.

You can also set up a software keyboard locale that uses international
characters, so you can type

Thanks,

Charles,

Do you have a specific style of font in mind?  Or a specific font name?

I use both Arial Unicode and Code2000 for my first font choice, if I do
not have a specific style of font needed for the document. I also have
others for specific needs, but those are the ones I deal with.

   yes, Thank You so much for verifying what I was attempting to
express.

   What you're able to do on your machine is what I was able to do, but
for some reason am no longer able to so do.

   I don't know why this no longer works, & am still hoping that
someone on this list can explain where it went or if it somehow was removed
for some reason.

I'm confused as to the flow of the discussion, and I'm not at all sure I
know what the issue is, but I have no problem inserting an entire
Impress presentation into another Impress presentation.

Here's how I do it with LO 5.1.6 on my Linux Mint machine:

First, I open one Impress presentation file. I then make sure that the
"Slide Panel" is visible by clicking on the menu "View", "Slide Panel"

I then click on the slide in the Slide Panel where I want to insert
another Impress presentation, keeping in mind that the inserted
presentation will appear *after* the slide I click on in the Slide
Panel. From my experience, inserting a second presentation only works if
my cursor focus is in the Slide Panel.

Then, on the menu, I click "Insert", "File...", which on my machine is
down toward the bottom of the Insert menu list. From the resulting
dialog box, I select the Impress presentation I want to insert and then
I am presented with another dialog box from which I can select certain
slides from the inserting file. If I want the entire presentation, I
simply click on "Ok," and the file is inserted into the original
presentation file after the slide I had selected in my Slide Panel.

Yes, it is implemented at least since 5.4. The command is "Toggle
Unicode Notation" and it has the shortcut key Alt+X. It toggles the
character left from the cursor to U+number and back.

And in LO 6 a new special character dialog is implemented. It has a
search field, where you can enter fragments of the Unicode name.

Entering the code point directly in the dialog does not work
correctly, but you can enter U+number in the text and toggle it. If
you have at least one font on your system, that has a glyph for it,
you will get it, at least via font replacement.

If you only know the glyph, then you should use a tool, where you can
draw the glyph and get the character. Such is not implemented in LO,
but e.g. http://shapecatcher.com/ can help.

Kind regards
Regina

If you do not remember the "U+number" code, this is a good place to start.

http://unicode.org/charts/

This is my default site to search for Unicode characters via. its place
in the standard placement. There are several Unicode fonts that I have
used, but each have their own set of which characters are included.
Since I do not use many Unicode characters/glyphs, I have to tried
find/replace for these characters very often.

There are several free Unicode fonts that have a large percent of the
Unicode character/glyph set. I tend look for good fonts every so often.
I hope you get your needs met for this issue.

[libreoffice-users] Base: opening from with macro requires delay?

2018-04-05 Thread Albrecht Dreß

Hi all,

I run LibreOffice 6.0.2.1.0+ (Build-ID: 1:6.0.2-1~bpo9+1) on Debian stretch.
In a base document, connected to a PostgreSQL data base, I ran into a really
confusing behaviour of forms.

The task: I have two forms. In the first, when the user clicks a button, the
second form (managing a list of contacts) shall be opened for entering a new
item. Following the manual, I wrote this macro and connected it to the
“Execute action” of the button in the first form:

---8<
Sub newContact
oDstForm = thisDatabaseDocument.FormDocuments.getByName("Kontakte
verwalten")
oDstForm.open()
oMainForm = oDstForm.component.getDrawPage.getForms.getByName("ContactForm")
oMainForm.load()
oMainForm.afterLast()
oMainForm.moveToInsertRow()
End Sub
---8<

This opens the form, but still displays the first entry, which should not
happen.

Now for the /really/ puzzling part: In the macro editor add a breakpoint at
any statement in the macro. Now step (shift-F8) through the remaining
statements until “End Sub” is reached, and the form jumps to a new entry with
all fields empty, i.e. does what I expect it to do.

When I place a ”wait 100” statement after “oDstForm.open()”, the form /also/
behaves properly, but I think this is not the correct solution. Any idea what
goes wrong at this point, and what would be the correct approach?

Thanks in advance,
Albrecht.

This isn't the standard "Reveal Codes" request.
So the rational for the usual flamewar isn't present.
