[libreoffice-users] Calc a formula conundrum
Hello A Calc conundrum I’m wondering if there is a simpler way of doing this Cell I5 contains a line of text from a bank statement the content will include or not a key word, key words are Lidl, SE Gas, Water etc etc The formula below (in C5) looks at content in cell I5 if the cell contains one of the key words then a corresponding name is produced in cell C5 ie. Lidl = Lidl, Water = Water etc etc. The formula does work, however it is long and is laborious to add new key words and I’m hoping someone might know a better way of doing it. New key words would be ‘HOLLAND & BARRETT’ and ‘PAYPAL’ and more as needed. I’m wondering if its possible to have a list of key words ? I’ve attached an example – which will make my explanation more clear ? I hope =IF(ISNUMBER(FIND("LIDL",I5)),"LIDL",IF(ISNUMBER(FIND("SE GAS",I5)),"GAS",IF(ISNUMBER(FIND("WATER",I5)),"WATER ",IF(ISNUMBER(FIND("LEGAL & GENERAL",I5)),"LEGAL & GENERAL ",IF(ISNUMBER(FIND("SOUTHERN",I5)),"ELECTRIC",IF(ISNUMBER(FIND("TALKTALK",I5)),"TalkTalk",IF(ISNUMBER(FIND("MORRISON",I5)),"MORRISON",IF(ISNUMBER(FIND("ALDI",I5)),"ALDI",IF(ISNUMBER(FIND("HERON",I5)),"HERO BANK_STATEMENT.ods <http://nabble.documentfoundation.org/file/n4199203/BANK_STATEMENT.ods> N","NO" - IGraham W764 LibreOffice 4.4.2.2 -- View this message in context: http://nabble.documentfoundation.org/Calc-a-formula-conundrum-tp4199203.html Sent from the Users mailing list archive at Nabble.com. -- To unsubscribe e-mail to: users+unsubscr...@global.libreoffice.org Problems? http://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/mailing-lists/how-to-unsubscribe/ Posting guidelines + more: http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Netiquette List archive: http://listarchives.libreoffice.org/global/users/ All messages sent to this list will be publicly archived and cannot be deleted

[libreoffice-users] Re: Base, connect to map/grid ?
Hello and thanks for the replies Should have replied a bit sooner but things kept getting in the way I already do the name tag in the ground to an extent, but they are unsightly, go missing and are the bare minimum. Latin names are useful, not all plants have a common name, common names tend do be non specific. I'll also be recording things like date purchased, where from, price, life, propagation. I looked at the mysql possible way and was left a bit bamboozled, couldn't find an example that did what I wanted and didn’t want to go down that path unless I knew it would do what I want and be double by me – i've failed with sql before, just a bit beyond me. Thanks for suggesting though. A database I can do though – to an extent. Looks like for me the way to do it is draw out the area in a spreadsheet (calc) and use the cell reference in a separate database. Would have been nice to have something integrated but such is life. At some point I'll be wandering around the garden see a plant and have no idea what it is. I'd like to create a map of my garden and record where a plant is and its name (common and Latin) etc in a database. Possibly such an application already exists (free) if it does I haven’t found it. [libreoffice-users] Calc, =left not working as expected
Hello Could someone tell me whats going on in the spreadsheet i uploaded This is a small part (to demonstrate) of a couple of legacy (by year) spreadsheets Column C contains a 7 cell drop down list with a range to select. these rangers did originally contain a graphic face (seemed like a good idea at the time) but that corrupted during subsequent Libreoffice updates. Now most of the faces or just dots The spreadsheet i use now just contains a range of just numbers - works ok. But i need to get some of the info from these old sheets into a combination sheet Altering the original sheets as little as possible i used =LEFT(cell ref,1) This seemed to work, except the values returned aren't seen by vlookup and can not be summed (but can be added) and dont work in a graph Maybe its something to do with text rather than number values ? Hi Nice try Paul I've never used pivit tables so didn't know they could produce that, which as you say may be a sufficient workaround, I could use it and it gives the closest result to what I want I've tried. But really the more I think about it the more I know a simple text file will be the easiest to maintain and for the users to use. [libreoffice-users] Re: Calc - sort in to columns
Hello and thanks to Alan & Brian (who replied private) Yes my choice of words to describe the problem wasn't great, 'sort' was the first thing I tried so was probably the first to swim up from the murk. The mock sheet shows a problem from a larger sheet saved as a .xls, stored within Dropbox and accessed and added to by other people - all of whom have limited spreadsheet knowledge. Anything I add to the sheet has to add minimum chance of giving a user the possibility of screwing things up. Which was why I was keen to present the member type emails in separate columns to just be used. So the first thing I tried was 'Auto filter', that worked but the user still had to select the relevant from up to 60 rows (not a big problem I suppose). However if a user sorted the sheet and subsequently saved the sheet then the next user would be presented with a sheet they hadn't seen before, do a bit of a panic and possibly try to add data in the wrong place. I understand filters, they 'might' but best not to wear rose tinted glasses. I also tried 'If' statements. Consternation (include a 'index column + member type = unique) and VLOOKUP. Neither of which gave good result. I was trying to set something up that wouldn't mean extra and ongoing work for me, but maybe just maintaining a simple text file is a way to go. Possibly this whole 'member details' sheet would now be better served by a database. But I'm not great at database stuff and I don't know what my users would make of it. If you have any other solutions/thoughts I'd be grateful (theres shed loads of spreadsheet stuff (I know) I don't know) - IGraham W764 LibreOffice 4.2.0.4 -- View this message in context: http://nabble.documentfoundation.org/Calc-sort-in-to-columns-tp4098035p4098086.html Sent from the Users mailing list archive at Nabble.com.

[libreoffice-users] Re: Writer: remove/merge pages
Hello Thanks for the replys I'm running W764 ultimate with 4gb memory Libreoffice 3.6.2.2 - slightly old version because the newer version breaks one of my spreadsheets Conditional formatting, I've reported this as a bug and its being looked into (I think) I'm hoping version 4 will be ok Mirosław I would have thought 4gb memory should be ok, I 'll try closing other programs, see if that helps I'm just sorting out for a PC rebuild with 8gb - that must be enough The profile, I 'll try that. The Universal Panacea, rebuild the profile, done that with a few programs - even works occasionally :) Tom No other programs giving problems and no new hardware or system changers lately I've now turned of Java for Libreoffice (was version 1.7.0_09) And increased memory use to 25 (was 20) Your last post as to Master document and creating web-pages, I'll have a look, who knows In the past I've had documents where I couldn't get rid of the pages, my fix then was to copy each page content over to a new document thinking 'there's got to be a better way'. [libreoffice-users] Re: calc column headers
Thanks for the response - and to Brian who emailed me After a bit more investigation I'm (fingers crossed) convinced its to do with a corrupted spreadsheet rather than a failure within Libreoffice. The broken up column header was only happening with one spreadsheet, the spreadsheet was saved as xls, stored in dropbox and shared with MS Office users, I'm presuming that the constant opening and saving between the two office programs eventually managed to corrupt it and Libreoffice was struggling to handle it. Have recreated the spreadsheet and its working ok - gave me a chance to bit of needed tweaking and tidying it up.
