[libreoffice-users] Re: Windows 7 64 bit Home Premium - Libreoffice 4.1.1.2 General Error. General input/output error

2013-09-28 Thread Jonathon Waterman
Because of needing to have this problem resolved ASAP - :-) , I decided to
delete Libreoffice 4.1.1.2 and go back to Libreoffice 4.0.5.2.

This appears to have fixed the problem.

Heaven knows why version 4.1.1.2 was getting a *General input/output
error* and
refusing to open my .doc files.

[libreoffice-users] Windows 7 64 bit Home Premium - Libreoffice 4.1.1.2 General Error. General input/output error

2013-09-27 Thread Jonathon Waterman
Recently in trying to open some previously created documents, I now
get a *General
Error.*
*General input/output error *in Libreoffice 4.1.1.2.

However, if I attempt to open my .doc files using a copy of Libreoffice
3.4.6 - my files open up okay - no error messages.

I tried re-installing 4.1.1.2 and that did not resolve the problem. Also,
the drive recently passed a through check to make sure there isn't any
errors or problems with it.

Why would Libreoffice 4.1.1.2 be having a problem?

You may also want to consider installing the After The Deadline
extension. It does well with both spelling and grammar checking.

Thanks for the response, Tom.

I was able to find a copy of 3.5.1 at
http://www.oldapps.com/libreoffice.php?old_libreoffice=7404.

After installing it, the .doc corruption problem disappeared. It seems like
3.5.2 might have a problem with dealing with .doc files.

Thanks for the suggestion,Tom. Changing user profiles did not help.

Unfortunately when using the hyperlink you provided - I see where it gives
me a choice of operating systems and languages - but after selecting U.S.
english - the only version of LO it's offering is 3.5.2.

[libreoffice-users] LibreOffice 3.5.2 corrupting .doc files

2012-04-09 Thread Jonathon Waterman
I have a number of files that I use in both LO and MS Word 2007 on a
Windows 7 64 bit Home system.

While before now - there hasn't been a problem. However, as soon as I
upgraded LO 3.5.1 -> 3.5.2 - in every single existing .doc file I open in
3.5.2 - the top part of each line is cut off, and if I "saved" the doc and
re-open it in MS Word - the documents shows file corruption.

Two questions - 1. What might be causing this problem? 2. What is the best
way to downgrade back to LO 3.5.1?

unlike 3.4.5 - in writer, there is no boundary line around the area where

Is there a way to get the text boundary line back?

Good advice, Tom. Unfortunately, I am having to uninstall 3.5 as we speak
and locate the 3.4.5 installation files. It seems LO 3.5 has trouble even
with some .odt files.

Hmm. That's strange you are having this problem. I run Windows 7 Home 64
bit and just created a docx file in MS Word 2007 - then modified it in LO
3.5. Afterwords, I was able to open it in Word with no problems.

Could this be a problem possible unique to MS Word 2010?

Though I hate to recommend a competitor's services, and may take a little
flack for doing so. For those who do have a individual question and want an
answer and nothing more, perhaps they should consider asking their question
at http://user.services.openoffice.org/ . The community forum does
support OpenOffice, LibreOffice, StarOffice, NeoOffice and more.

I personally have done so on occasion and have received satisfactory
results.

Re: [libreoffice-users] Cannot get LibreOffice to install

2011-11-11 Thread Jonathon Waterman
Greetings. I thought I would let you know I am running L.O. 3.4.4. on
Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 - 64 bit with no problems. Thus it can be done.

Most likely the problem is being caused by some hardware or software
setting on the computer.

You may want to reboot Windows and bring it up in SAFE Mode - you do this
by hitting the F8 key during startup.

Then once you are up in Safe Mode - Install L.O.

Good Luck!

In the process of trying resolve a different problem - I uninstalled L.O. -
deleted the Libreoffice directory from Program files and removed the
Libreoffice folder out of my app/data folder. Thus doing what your article
references, and more. :-)

This seems to have resolved the problem.

Re: [libreoffice-users] Re: Dropped Caps - Sharing a .doc file created in LO 3.4.3 and MS Word 2007

2011-11-10 Thread Jonathon Waterman
Thanks for sharing the info. Pedro.

Fortunately I have found the cause of this problem and it could be listed
as a user error.

Needless to say after using MS Word for roughly 17 years I know it better
than L.O. - which I recently have started to use as my full time word
processor.

Anyhow - in MS Word - You can create a drop cap at the beginning of a one
line, short sentence. Tonight, I discovered that does not hold true to
either OpenOffice or LibreOffice.

Its seems for either OO or LO - you have to have a paragraph with a minimal
of three lines of text in order for Drop Cap to work properly.

I really with L.O. had a LibreOffice 3.4 Manual for Dummies available so
extreme novices to the program could easily learn each program/feature
within L.O.

The only manual I have seen so far is for L.O. 3.3 and it is definitely not
written in a simplistic manner.

Thanks again for your help.

Re: [libreoffice-users] Re: Dropped Caps - Sharing a .doc file created in LO 3.4.3 and MS Word 2007

2011-11-10 Thread Jonathon Waterman
In doing further testing - I have also discovered if you install OpenOffice
3.3.0 - the problem exists there, as well. Ironically, whatever is causing
this does not affect MS Word 2007.

Apparently, LO 3.4.4. has shut off some Drop Cap setting which affects all
versions of L.O and OO.

Weird!

2011-11-10 Thread Jonathon Waterman
Great. Unfortunately not only is it now working under Windows 7 64 bit Home
Premium - if you uninstall 3.44 and reinstall 3.43 - you still have the
problem. Needless to say, before now - Dropcaps did work properly within LO
itself.

Note: Deleting the LO directory under Program Files (396) and the Appdata
for LO does not resolve the problem - then installing 3.4.3 or 3.44 does
not resolve the problem.

Re: [libreoffice-users] Dropped Caps - Sharing a .doc file created in LO 3.4.3 and MS Word 2007

2011-11-10 Thread Jonathon Waterman
Thanks for your suggestion. Unfortunately, this problem has escalated into
a much larger one.

After installing, 3.4.4 - now I cannot get L.O. to even create a Dropcap. I
highlight the first letter of the paragraph, select format -> paragraph ->
dropcaps - show dropcaps and use the default of 3 lines - yet the only
thing occuring is the letter I selected gets a gray background.

I have tried uninstalling L.O. - deleting my profile in userapps etc - and
deleting L.O in Program files - then reinstalled. It still not work.

Re: [libreoffice-users] Re: Dropped Caps - Sharing a .doc file created in LO 3.4.3 and MS Word 2007

2011-11-10 Thread Jonathon Waterman
Thanks for the suggestions,Tom.

The file is definitely being saved in .doc format - and it uses Garamond 11
font in both MS Word and LO.

I recently installed 3.4.4 - yet have not had time to see if the
incompatibility problem still exists with this latest version.

I've also noticed a graphics problem whereas I would anchor a jpg in LO to
a paragraph, yet when opened in MS Word - it changes position and shows it
in Word as being anchored to a character.
Strange.

Unfortunately, I cannot save in PDF format since additional editing will be
done.

Thanks for your help. I'll submit the problem to MS and see if they might
have an insight into what's going on.

[libreoffice-users] Dropped Caps - Sharing a .doc file created in LO 3.4.3 and MS Word 2007

2011-11-06 Thread Jonathon Waterman
I have a lengthy .doc file which uses Drop Caps that I created in LO 3.4.3
that I need to share between LO and MS Word.

However, while everything looks good in L.O., the drop cap set for 1
character and 3 lines - when the .doc file is opened in MS Word - there are
two blank lines directly underneath the drop cap.

How can I get a consistency between the two programs?

Thanks for the info. I'm familiar with Hagar's assistance from back in the
days I used to experiment with OpenOffice.

Fortunately, whenever I get a new extension I keep a copy of it on my
harddrive - so reinstalling them wasn't a problem.

Thanks for again for your assistance.

[libreoffice-users] LibreOffice Document Recovery error message

2011-10-24 Thread Jonathon Waterman
Recently, ever type I exit out of LibreOffice 3.4.3 I get a box with the
following error message.

LibreOffice Document Recovery

Due to an unexpected error, LibreOffice crashed. All the files you were
working on will now be saved. The next time LibreOffice is lunched , you
files with be recovered automatically.

HOWEVER, the box below the line that states: The following files will be
recovered - is blank. Then I select the OK button and the error box
disappears.

While this isn't a major error - it is annoying to see it every time I exit
out of LO.

Does anyone what would cause this and/or how to resolve this problem?

[libreoffice-users] LibreOffice auto resizing jpg files and adding borders

2011-10-01 Thread Jonathon Waterman
I have a .doc file that I am editing using both MS Word 2007 and LO Writer
3.4.3. Why? - because LO does not handle Section breaks and a few other
things the same way MS Word does.

Anyhow

My problem is, after doing what needs to be done in MS Word, and then saving
the file and opening it using LO Writer, for some unknown reason - Writer is
automatically resizing the pictures (jpg files) in the document - reducing
their size, and is also adding a border around them.

I have tried changing file format - saving the file in MS Word using the odt
format - and this did not resolve the problem.

Any ideas?

[libreoffice-users] LO Writer 3.4.3 resizing jpg files and automatically adding a border

Any ideas?

[libreoffice-users] LO Navigator and MS .doc files containing Section Breaks

2011-09-20 Thread Jonathon Waterman
Hi all,

I need to review a .doc document that was created in MS Word 2007.

This document contains both Page breaks and Section breaks.

While I can get the Navigator in LO to GOTO the next page - how can I get it
to GOTO where section breaks were used? I want to be able to jump from one
section to the next - in this case, each section is a different chapter.

So far, and maybe I'm not doing it wrong - but LO Navigator does not seem to
recognized the MS Word created Section Breaks.

What I have tried was, I clicked on Navigator - then the icon to browse
Sections, and then hit the down arrow.

Re: [libreoffice-users] comparison of LO and m$ bugs

2011-09-19 Thread Jonathon Waterman
Boy, you got that right - Tom.

Recently I ran across a Drop Cap-related bug in their Word program and via
their support forum discovered that is was a well known problem that was
reported as a bug back in 2003. Apparently MS didn't deem it necessary to
fix. Also, thank goodness I was able to work around it via LO.

Re: [libreoffice-users] Re: Problems while trying to reinstall LO 3.4.3

*That's it!* The freeware version of the Revo Uninstaller program was the
solution. After installing and running it, I re-downloaded LibreOffice 3.4.3
and was able to successfully install it.

Thanks all - for your help. :-)

Re: [libreoffice-users] Re: Problems while trying to reinstall LO 3.4.3

2011-09-15 Thread Jonathon Waterman
I just once again verified that the User profile, all folders, and
everything else that could be identified as possibly connected to
Libreoffice has been deleted. Yet, the installation still thinks a version
of LO 3.4.3 is installed.

I am starting to think that I may have to wait until LO 3.4.4 comes
out.inorder to resolve the problem.

:-)

Actually, in my original message - and I do not know why that part no longer
shows - I clearly state this is Windows 7 - 64 bit - Home edition.

This problem originated way before OpenOffice was installed. - Openoffice
was installed only as a temporary workaround. Thus closing OO and shutting
off the Quick starter program has no effect. In regards to "rename a certain
directory" - I have no idea what directory you are referencing.

Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately, that did not help either.

I have also checked the /Program Files(x86), the appdata folder, Windows
Registry Editor, etc and have no found any trace of the previous
installation. Yet, If I try to install either LO 3.4.3 or 3.3.4 - they think
the old installation is there.

Re: [libreoffice-users] Problems while trying to reinstall LO 3.4.3

2011-09-15 Thread Jonathon Waterman
Unfortunately, after deleting the C:\Users\\AppData\Roaming\libreoffice\3\user the problem still exists.

For some unknown reason, LO3.4.3 still thinks there is a version of the
program still installed on my desktop - even though there isn't. I also
noticed that apparently when I previously uninstalled LO3.4.3 - it did not
do it properly since the program is still listed in my Control Panel.
However, if I try to uninstall via the Control Panel, it tells me
LibreOffice34.msi does not exist - therefore will not uninstall the program.

[libreoffice-users] Problems while trying to reinstall LO 3.4.3

2011-09-15 Thread Jonathon Waterman
Operating system: Windows 7 64 bit Home edition

Previously I had LibreOffice 3.4.3 installed on my computer, but uninstalled
it when I was not able to get the Synonyms in Write to work the way in did
in version 3.4.2.

I wanted to go back and re-install version 3.4.2 - but have not been able to
locate the installation files.

So I concluded I would have to re-install 3.4.3. However, now when I try to
install either version 3.4.3 I get the error "The feature you are trying to
use is on a network resource that is unavailable, /click OK to try again, or
enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package
"libreoffice34.msi" in the box below.

The box below - does contain the specific path to this file and even if do
an installation from a different drive/folder - I get the same error.

If I hit OK - I then get the following error:

The file "the installation drive/folder" is not a valid installation package
for the product LibreOffice 3.4. Try to find the installation package
"libreoffice34.msi" in a folder from which you can install LibreOffice 3.4.

The file and folder being used is on my "C" drive and this is not problem
accessing files on the drive or folder.

Note: If I cancel the installation - I get: Error 1714. The older version of
libreOffice 3.4 cannot be removed. Contact your technical support group.

Because of this problem - I have had to use OpenOffice, but would prefer to
use LibreOffice.

Why would I be getting this error and how can it be fixed?
