Hi Marc,
I think that the main question is : want you help someone in this
list or not? In Italy we say that No one is born master... I' a
software developer but I don't know all languages that are available in
the world. Each person expresses their thoughts to the best of their
abilities... and if you are a master you need to understand that. A
master that is an island is not useful... you can tell me about your
knowledge, maybe I can tell you about my patience :)
If you hate messages that need long scroll down... simply ignore them,
but remember that user mailing lists are used worldwide by juveniles
(if I'm an advanced user, I don't need a mailing list) ;-)

Il 23/02/2012 16.40, Marc Grober ha scritto:

One reason I am not more involved in this community is the incessant whining

as my comment would not be really benefitted by a long scroll down a thread of
shame, lol Chin up, Tom, and hope that some may find Apache a snugger fit
;-) I rarely take much notice of those focused on puffing themselves up; lack
of O2 usually brings them to their senses.

When you create a new XML Form, and put a text box on it, there is a
grey line

around it. When choosing control on either a rightclick menu, or the
toolbarbutton, the session crashes, not allowing you to change any of the
properties.
This might be the same with other types as well.
A workaround to remove the border is to create a Label field first,
and replace

it with a text box.

Hi.
I am a visually impaired user of Libreoffice. I am able to use it with the
free open source screen reader NVDA, available from
www.nvda-project.orghttp://www.nvda-project.org.
It has always been necessary that the Java Access Bridge be installed in order
to ensure that NVDA can speak things such as menus, dialog boxes and even the
text of the documents. However, i notice that I'm unable to get any output
with the new 3.5 release using the latest NVDA beta 2012.1. I'm running
Windows 7, 32-bit edition. Enabling assistive technology support makes no
difference.
I've reported this as a bug in Libreoffice's bug tracker but I'm wondering if
anyone else can duplicate this and if there is a workaround which is not
obvious to me.

thanks so much for any help you can provide.

Besides, I can't see why the lack of full e-mail functionality in OOo

Perhaps the question is how can I have all the features that MS
Outlook offers with free/libre programs ?.
Just as an example, Mozilla Thunderbird + Lightning gives you e-mail,

One notable downside of installing .debs (other than the long commands)
is missing the automatic fixes and updates being published to the Ubuntu

to know if you have 32-bit or 64-bit, and be precise in the order of
package installation. This is not necessary anymore for Ubuntu users.

A third-party repository (Personal Package archive or PPA) has been
available for a few weeks now, which should be the recommended way for
end-users (as opposed to developpers) to install LibO under Ubuntu
(10.04 LTS and 10.10). In order to use the PPA:

1) Open a terminal window under Applications Accessories Terminal
2) Type the following command to add the Ubuntu LibreOffice repository
(remember to type ENTER at the end):
*sudo add-apt-repository ppa:libreoffice/ppa
(you will need to enter your user password)
3) Type the following command to install Libre Office:
**sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install libreoffice
libre-office-gnome *
4) To exit the terminal type use CTRL-D or type exit (without quotes)
followed by Enter.

All LibreOffice applications will be in the Applications Office
directory. From there on you will get notifications as usual when new
versions are out.

If you wonder what a PPA is and want to know more about that, see:

Re: [libreoffice-users] Linux Distros using LO?

Hi,

I write a weekly Linux News piece in a UK magazine (MicroMart) and I wondered
if anyone knew of any Linux distros already including LO in their
repositories? Or any firm plans to do so from their next release?
Hi, you can find LibreOffice on OpenSuse 11.4 M3, Ubuntu 11.04 Natty
Narwhal, Fedora 15... probably other distros follow :-)

Same behaviour for me, I don't know if it's normal...

I was just using draw and had to do a numbered and bulletted list and

The question could be: why there is a section break?:-)

When I open your document, it appears to be in landscape mode with a

duplicate for page 2. There is nothing in column 2 - literally - I
can't position the cursor in column 2 at all.

In experimenting with the document, it appears as though the second
column is not populated at all. When I go down from the bottom of
column 1, it goes directly to the next page. If I delete a line or
two above the table on page one, the page break does not move.

I went back and retraced your steps exactly - create a document with
your parameters (landscape, 0.39 margins all around, 2 columns), put
a 2x2 table in column 1, position it to the bottom with carriage
returns, select that column and copy it to column 2. Save as MS Word
97-2000 .doc, re-open, select column 1, copy to column 2, save again,
reopen.

I get the same results as you.

My file is online at http://tinyurl.com/28o924a as test2.doc.

Same problem... with Lib0 image is missing. Steps:
* created new file with 1 line of text and 1 png image
* saved document as nome.docx
* opened nome.docx in Word 2000 (content is ok)
* opened nome.docx in Lib0 (text line is ok, image is missing)

Re: [libreoffice-users] Re: MS Office - LibreOffice (compatibility problem)

2010-11-03 Thread Stefano Fraccaro

Hi Marc, I have found a strange behaviour. Steps:

1. In Word 2000 create a document with 1 line of text and 1 little bmp
image.

2. save the document as nome.docx
3. open the document in Lib0 (image is missing,
http://monteldvd.sf.net/_lib0.jpg ).

4. add from Lib0 the same image and save (overwriting the file)
5. open the file in Word2000 and... you find the text, the first image
(missing in Lib0) and a shape??? (http://monteldvd.sf.net/_word2k.jpg )

Re: [libreoffice-users] MS Office - LibreOffice (compatibility problem)

2010-11-03 Thread Stefano Fraccaro
You are right Michel, but is simpler for other people to send pdf files
(using PdfCreator for example) than installing other software like
LibreOffice. In many cases company policy prevent users to install
software not approved from the IT office...
If there are some difficult with many collegues... with suppliers or
customers is a mission impossible ;-)
Doc (and other proprietary file format) is the evil... because if your
sender use Word 2007 and you have Word 2000... you need to upgrade your
software or you are unable to read the document. It's obvious... but not
for all the people. Require odf files from your senders is very very
difficult... but it would be the best solution

Il 03/11/2010 15.26, Michel Gagnon ha scritto:

I see this recommendation send sources as .pdf files very often.
Quite frankly, I really don't consider it a solution, except for legal
and archival purposes. Why ?
1. It is another private format. Not as closed as it used to be, but
still relevant on the good will of Adobe. I have yet to find a pdf
file reader for Windows that does an equivalent job with font hinting
and the like.
2. It screems look but don't touch. Except for minor modifications
using clunky techniques, the document cannot be modified and is much
harder to annotate than a .doc or .odf document.
