Virgil,

Thanks for the reply. I checked my spam folder, no LO there. My expectation
was that when I sen a note to the list for support, I would get a copy back.
That didn't happen so I kept posting. My apologies to anyone offended!

AutoInput only works for cells in the same column. As I tried to explain, the
lists of inputs are in another sheet to keep the input form cleaner looking.

So it looks like a very long scroll bar is the only option for now.

Thanks,
Dave

[libreoffice-users] Libreoffice Calc

2024-05-30 Thread dboland9
For some reason my questions are not getting posted. Hopefully the fourth
attempt works.

Software: LO, Version 7.3.7.2, Linux (Mint)

Problem: I was asked about autocomplete for cells in Calc. My response was to
use a list of cells in Validity. Unfortunately, only a vertical scroll bar is
available, which works fine for short lists, but not so great when the list is
over 1000 cells in another sheet (same file though). I thought that LO Calc
would let one start typing c, o, l and get coliflour. Is there some way to do
this,or is it a feature request?

Thanks,
Dave

[libreoffice-users] Calc auto complete from a list of cells

2024-05-29 Thread dboland9
I was asked how to make an auto complete from a list of cells in another sheet
in the same file. I thought the validation would work, but it only supports a
scroll bar. That is fine for short lists, but not for hundreds of lines. Any
suggestions on how to do this? I have seen it in some apps. I played with
VLOOKUP, but it doesn't return a list. If there is no good way to do this, can
it be a feature request?

Thanks,
Dave

[libreoffice-users] Writer input fiels for form letter?

2023-07-03 Thread dboland9
How can fields be added to a Writer document so that the field prompts for the
data? For example, imagine a business letter like this:

(when cursor over field, it says "Enter the desired date")
(When cursor over field, it says "Enter the name of the
recipient")
Re: (When cursor over field, it says "Enter the subject of the
letter")
Encl: (When the cursor over field, it says "Enter the number of
enclosures")

Thanks,
Dave

Re: [libreoffice-users] Fw: Potential bug printing blank Writer tables

2023-05-05 Thread dboland9
The version is 7.5.2.

Normally, when I post a question, get a copy of my post. That did not happen,
so I assumed something went wrong.

[libreoffice-users] Potential bug printing blank Writer tables

2023-05-05 Thread dboland9
A form was created using Writer tables, double spaced. Printing of the borders
was very inconsistent - some too light to even see, a few ok, with most in
between. Could I ask others to create a page in Writer with a table covering
most of the page. Hit the Enter key twice in each line, then print it.

Tables printed with content in them seem to work fine.

Re: [libreoffice-users] blood pressure readings template

2023-04-18 Thread dboland9
A template really isn't needed. All you need are:
- A title in one of the cells on the first row. For example "My Blood Pressure
Readings".
- Leave a row space for readability.
- On row three, add these column headings starting with column 1:
"Date", "Time", "Systolic", "Diastolic", "Pulse", "Notes"
- You may want to make the column headings bold for readability.
- Start recording the readings in the spreadsheet.

Once you have a few readings, you can highlight the range and create a chart
that will show you how the blood pressure is varying by day or time, and any
other special situation noted in Notes column.

Very easy actually.

[libreoffice-users] LO data wizzard

2022-11-29 Thread dboland9
I was trying to use mail merge in LO. The documentation (7.1, but I have 7.4)
has some errors/omissions.

- Step 6. The text says to click Finish once the connection is tested.
Actually, you need to select the correct sheet prior to Finish. Sometimes there
will be more than one sheet with addresses.
- Step 10. "Click Finish. The data source is now registered." I get an error
that says the file already exists - overwrite it? Clicking Help gets another
error saying the page does not exist. So, what do I do here???

[libreoffice-users] Frame auto-resize image

2022-10-09 Thread dboland9
How does on place a frame in a Writer document so that the image is
automatically resized to fit the size of the frame? The most important
dimension is width, so the height can be sacrificed to keep the W/H ratio. I
know how to resize the frame for the image, but the application has a fixed
location, thus size.

Thanks,
Dave

[libreoffice-users] Connect to .accdb files

2021-07-23 Thread dboland9
I read that LO Base can open the Access 2007/2010 files. The instructions say
to select the Access 2007 connection. Well, there are no Access connections.
Only JDBC, Thunderbird, spreadsheet, dBase, Firebird, Text, MySQL, ODBC,
PostgreSQL, and Writer. Any ideas?

[libreoffice-users] Smart pdf forms with calculations

2021-04-21 Thread dboland9
Has anyone tried to use LO to create a smart form that does calculations? I'm
thinking of an order form that calculates sales tax based on the location and
shipping cost based on the destination. Some areas have no sales tax, others a
little, etc.

Thanks,
Dave
