[libreoffice-users] Impress: Default color for text is white

2012-06-03 Thread Agustin Lobo
When I insert a text box, the default color for text is white, which
is quite inconvenient.
How can i change this default? Could not find it in options.
Using LibreOffice LibreOffice 3.5.3.2
Build ID: 350m1(Build:2)
Ubuntu 11:10

Thanks

Agus

Normally the default color is "automatic". Right click the object and
click on the item "Edit style". In that style dialog look at the dialog
page "Font Effects". What entry is in "Font color"?

Do you use a template for that presentation? What text do you see in the
field left from the zoom slider in the status bar?

Do you see the white text in a presentation object like title, subtitle,
outline too or do you see the white text only in the text box?

Do you have set a background color?

It is much easier to help you, when you provide the file for download.

Kind regards
Regina

Regina,

many thanks for your help.
Just found that this problem happens only if a recycle a given ppt, not if
I start a new presentation from scratch. Nevertheless, as this
recycling is actually
important, I provide a short example here:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/3180464/test.ppt

Note that the same text is in the slide with white background than in
the one with the
colored background. I would appreciate knowing how to change the
default color for the text,
as it is very inconvenient having white as default and having to
change the color for
every new text field.

Are you using styles to do what you want? Are the
slide shows you mention created using PowerPoint? Impress is
designed to work with styles; MS Office for years has not.
(Recent version seem to have changed this.)
My suggestion is to apply styles to the slide show.
The Impress Guide has instructions on how to do this and
many more things as well.

Dan,
Thanks for your answer, but, frankly, it's not useful at all. I'm
asking a very specific
question, thus answering with such a general advise is like telling
"learn how to use a gps"
to somebody who is asking you the directions to the closest hospital.
I can't believe changing the default color is so difficult in
Libreoffice. Back to Powerpoint.

Agus

I had this problem in powerpoint; the highlighted default colour was the
same colour as my background, which meant I couldn't see what I was
typing, but once typed I could see my text.

I don't remember if I found a fix for this.

However, the reply you have been given (change your styles) should work
- you will be creating your own "default" style

Hi :)
The main part of Dan's post was to ask for further info.

Surely it's good policy to give people links into documentation and/or maybe
give hints or a possible answer at the same time as asking for info in case
that does turn out to help the user to solve the problem?
Regards from
Tom :)

Hi Agus,

That good. So not LibO is broken, but you only need to change the
setting in this special presentation.

 Nevertheless, as this

recycling is actually
important,

"Recycling" is not the only method to use old presentations. You should
learn how to use/generate document templates and how to import single
slides.

I provide a short example here:

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/3180464/test.ppt

I've got it.

Note that the same text is in the slide with white background than in
the one with the colored background.I would appreciate knowing how to
change the default color for the text, as it is very inconvenient
having white as default and having to change the color for every new
text field.

Impress has two kind of objects: Presentation objects (e.g. Title,
Subtitle, Outline) and Graphic objects (e.g. text box, circle, call
out). If you open the "Style and Formatting" window (key F11) you notice
this two groups.

Your texts are of the kind "shape" (see right side of the status bar)
and therefore belong to the group "Graphic style". Select this group. In
this window select "hierarchical" from the bottom drop down list. The
top most Graphic style is "default". If a graphic object has not its own
style, then the settings of the "default" style are used.

To change this style, right click style "Default" in the "Style and
Formatting" window and select the item "Modify". Go to the dialog page
"Font Effect". Notice that the font color is set to "White". You can
alter this and change it to "Black" or to "Automatic". In the latter
case the color is black on a light background and white on a dark
background.

If a shape does not follow the change, it might have a direct font color
setting. In that case you can remove the direct setting by Format >
Default Formatting. Then, while object is still selected, double click
the style "Text" from the "Style and Formatting" window to remove
background and border.

Kind regards
Regina
