Re: [libreoffice-users] Re: Some content in ODP slide appears only in slide show view of Impress, not in normal view or PDF output

2013-07-19 Thread Dan
IIRC, the equations were originally copied and pasted into Impress from a pptx
presentation that I had open in PowerPoint 2010.  I have a vague memory that,
immediately after pasting them, they looked right in Normal view until the
first time that Impress was closed and restarted.

Are the equations created in "Math" and then copied into the
Impress slide?  or are the equations done straight into the text-box?

2013-07-19 Thread Tom Davies
Hi :)
Ahhh, they might have pulled some bad formatting with them.  I often find it's
good to make a fresh start in LibreOffice at some point.

For normal text doing
Ctrl Shift v
to "Paste Special" and then choose "unformatted text" gets rid of a lot of
messy formatting.  Then apply and modify styles to get things the way i like.

For the equations it might be best to re-write them in Math and then copy them
into the slide.

Regina or someone else here might have some really clever way of sorting the
problem in some far more elegant way but often it's quickest to just do my
painful way once and as you do that you'll probably figure out something a bit
more elegant.

Apols and regards from
Tom :)

2013-07-19 Thread Tom Davies
Hi :)
It might be worth posting a bug report about this issue and mention that
https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/BugReport

Obviously just reinstall the 3.6.6 or the slightly newer 3.6.7.  Within a
branch the updates are just bug-fixes, a little better compatibility with the
latest versions of the MS formats and not much more.  Going up a branch adds
new features and a fairly large improvement in compatibility with the latest
versions of the MS formats.  So, the newer 4.0.x branch probably added
something that interferes with showing the slide.  The 3.6.7 doesn't add new
features it just fixes a few things.
Regards from
Tom :)

I merely meant going through the various tabs-menu ;-)
[insert tab -> scrolling down to whichever option desired ->
'browsing' to that item on the computer -> choosing that item -> LO places
it into the document ... ... ... ]

Thanks Tom. This is my attempt at a Nabble upload of the file. As I said,
it looks as it should in the [F5] slide show view, but some content is
missing in the Normal view and in exported PDF.

I'll look into 4.0.x.

Anne - please can you expand on what you mean by "the proper LO way"?

This might be an important clue... Upgrading to 4.0.4.2 (from 3.6.6.2) has made
things worse: in 4.0.4.2, the "missing"
content appears to be missing even in the slide show view.

"Get help" - Nabble - then look for the same subject-line that you wrote

Start posting a reply and notice that above where you are typing-in there
are some buttons such as "More". The "More" one has "Upload a file" as
it's top option. Then it's just the same as adding an attachment to an
email. It has the same sort of "browse" thing. Once done all you see is
a line of html code added into your reply. You can move that link around

Btw have you tried upgrading to 4.0.something? Have you had time to try
the 3.6.7 that has just been released?

Slide_with_vanishing_content.odp

The document has damaged content. The error is not in LO but already in
the file.

In detail: The document contains a lot of objects which has got an
attribute svg:viewbox="0 0 0 0". Having a viewbox with width and height
zero means, that the object is not displayed. When you try to edit the
objects, you will notice, that they vanish in edit view too. If I set a
proper width and height manually in the file souce, the upper drawings
are shown.

The question is, how was the file generated? Most of the objects are of
draw:type="ooxml-rect". That suggests, that the original file was a
.pptx. Which application was used to convert it to .odp?

Kind regards
Regina

2013-07-22 Thread Tom Davies
Hi :)
In this sort of situation is it possible to go into the file as a though it's a
zip-file and fix it by just editing a couple of easy things in there?

ie
filename.odp
to
filename.zip

and then edit the xml file in there?

Would that be an easier approach to fixing a LOT of files in a big batch run?

Tom :)
