Hi list,
After trying kannel at 6 different machines, I've found out that kannel is
quite messy with initializing a serial port.
[modem TC-35 Siemens].
Under Solaris this is quite a tricky to achieve, and under linux it is
little bit easier (minicom trick).
This is a known problem with the AT2 driver, and a work-around is documented
in the STATUS file of the latest CVS, as well as the 1.2 release when it
comes.
Another strange thing is that 1.1.6 is not working with at2 smsc, but
with old at it is working
I had that impression two, that the AT code opens the drivers somewhat
differently and so works around several of the AT2 problems. all the same,
the AT2 code is much more mature and stable in other aspects and contains
many improvments.
If I use old at under Solaris, then it works, but receiving messages is
not possible.
I think this is problem with init strings...
For TC-35 it needs to be first:
AT+CSMS=1 , and then this one will work...
AT+CNMI=3,2,0,0,1
otherwise I get error with AT+CNMI command, since without CSMS=1 , TC-35
does not accept anthying else than AT+CNMI=1,2,0,0,1 (not 100%, this is
from head). Anyway, after making kannel work after couple of inits and
shutdowns, problem with initializing is occuring again after rebooting
machine... Does anybody know solution for this?
I've tried even setting up a port with stty, but this is still not 100%
reliable.
It is 100% reliable for me. if its not for you, the I suggest you find out why
and fix it (or tell us and we'll try to fix it :-).
Changing the modem init lines is not possible in AT w/o recompiling the code,
but it is possible in AT2 by changing modems.conf
Second issue is unified-prefix...
I've tested kannel 1.1.6 with 4 different cards (german) and when sending
messages i need to enter diffferent numbers to be able to send SMS.
For some it is ok to write 491742x, but for some of them I need to
write 00491742
my unified-prefix look's like: unified-prefix = +491,00491;+,00
so...what I'm missing here? :-)
the translation is done from right to left, so writing 00941* will be
converted to +491* while writing 491* will not get translate to anything.

Griffin :I was just thinking what an interesting concept it is to eliminate
the
writer from the artistic process. If we could just get rid of these actors
and directors, maybe we've got something here.
