Re: Sending Vcards through SMS
Elvis Lam wrote: Dear all, I have managed to send Vcards to Nokia phones using UDH %06%05%04%23%F4%00%00, but the whole contents in the Vcard would just show as normal SMS messages if they are sent to Sony Ericsson mobiles (T68). Is the UDH for sending Vcards to Sony Ericsson mobiles different from %06%05%04%23%F4%00%00? Thanks for your help. Elvison To send to Ericsson phones just send it as a regular text message with no UDH. Arne

If Kannel is asked to send a message, it will remove this prefix from the sender number so that the SMSC will add it again. If the prefix was not present, Kannel will log a warning and will not send the sender number. If sender-prefix is not set, or is set to never, then Kannel will not send the sender number to the SMSC at all. If you want Kannel to pass all sender numbers to the SMSC unchanged, then just set sender-prefix to the empty string . Regards, Arne If your short code is 1234 and you want to append 99 then setset from=123499 in the URL to sendsms. You might have to set sender-prefix=1234 in the config file. Arne

Navjot Singh wrote: Hi, We have installed and configured kannel 1.2.0 on Linux 7.3 system and will use Ericsson T68i as SMSC. We are also pretty much aware of what kannel can do and what should we do with kannel. But the problem with us is to decide which of PERL and JAVA will do good for our apps? I am not aware of the helping tools/ apis/help available for either of the langauge. So, It would be very helpful if you can share your experiences (good n bad) on development using JAVA, PERL or even Python. and what would you recommend i should go with? Use the language you know. I use Perl and PHP, but any language will do. Arne

Re: Delete SMS from storage after read
Scott Houseman wrote: Hi all. we have a nokia devicereceiving sms messages and kannel running a sms service. All seems fine, but I have a question re storing these received messages. The Nokia 22 seems to be storing the received messages on the sim card after having sent the request to kannel. I tried turning on sim-buffering, but then the messages get received by kannel twice. When it is received by the nokia and then once again when kannel polls the sim card.Is this a bug? Can anyone suggest a way of configuring this sms center so that SMS messages receives are NOT stored on the SIM card or Mobile Equipment ie they are deleted after reading. If you set mclass=1 when calling sendsms the message will be sent directly to the display. It will not automatically be stored. Arne

The only thing is that I would like to change the originating address based on the sms-service. Is this possible? In Norway, the smsc providers are using the originating address (field 23) for billing codes. You could do it in Kannel, but the operators will still use your shortcode. Arne -- Arne K. Re: sms.coding choice in smsbox (SMPP smsc)
On Tuesday 18 June 2002 14:40, Oded Arbel wrote: SMPP v3.4 support many character set delivery types but SMPP v3.3 doesn't, and the way the SMPP driver in kannel is written, it supports only the v3.3 style of character coding which limits us to GSM 03.38 (7bit), iso-8859-1 (8bit) or UCS-2 (unicode). Changing the SMPP implementation to support the v3.4 supported charsets is on my todo list, but it wouldn't help any as Kannel does not currently have an infrastructure to support arbitary chracter sets (or just anything besides the 3 coding styles). Currently to send anything other the ISO-8859-1 on SMPP you need to either deliver everything in unicode (UCS-2) or to hack the driver to support your specific charset. In 1.1.4 you could put pdu-u.submit_sm.data_coding = 0xf5; in smsc_smpp.c I am no C guru, but I tried putting this in the version from the latest snapshot (which has changed a bit..). It does'nt seem to work, as I get no messages through. Any ideas on where I should hardcode the driver to use 0xf5 as the coding? Regards, Arne -- Arne K.
