the number of the gsm-modem depends on the sim-card you insert.
the number of the smpp connection depends on the number you select.

Re: Expected load?

2005-12-08 Thread Wilfried Goesgens

you have a rather huge percentage of i/o wait. this could be caused by
slow disks writing the kannel log, or cheap rtl81** nics doing polling.
try to use faster disks, or intel / 3com and so on nics.

 http://smsbox.host.name:13013/cgi-bin/sendsms?username=foopassword=barto=0123456text=Hello+world
(taken from the user's guide), replacing the to= and
 text=-values everytime.

The question: Is it necessary to set a sleep between each request or will the
modem slow down the throughput automatically? Normally the request is waiting
for the Accepted for delivery before continuing - is this enough to make
sure, that the modem is not overloaded? Or is there another way to deliver
 the
SMS through the GSM modem making sure that the SMS are accepted by the GSM
 network provider?
kannel will do queueing for you.
your performance/throughput may vary from several seconds for a message up to
more than a minute,
depending on your provider.
btw, i've found the tc35 behaving rather nasty compared to simple nokia mobiles
or wavecoms.

some providers (as vodafone) don't use a usual GSM charset.
see the kannel documentation for alt-charset, you should find

Re: cant send the fake sms using kannel

at first you should increase the debug level, so you can see in
bearerbox.log the actual sending.
second if you send binary messages, some phones may forget them as a 'security
feature'
if you didn't turn it on. This caused me serious headache with a v300.

use for examples half a dozend of lines php to send the mail,
as of kannel gives you an http-request.

Rene, maybe the message is in slot 15 on just the other storage.
for that reason i fill up the simcard with trash.

But does this means that the MC35 breaks ETSI specs?
The incoming indication is clearly MT, 15. Which means that the message
can be found in MT memory at slot 15.
As opposed to all the memories that the phone possibly can have.

most modems / phones i've met don't have a proper implementation of
the flat memory model (mt) which just puts sm and me after each other.
some pretent to, many don't even try. allso the mc35 has some very
weirdo behaviour if it gets cr/lf's / ^Z's in the wrong sort of order to the
rest of the arguments.

as Jan suggested I switched on the access.log. It seems as the modem receives
the SMS several times from the provider and
that's why serves every SMS as a new one (correctly). In my opinion the
reason for this is that the Wavecom does not
answer to the mobile network correctly that the SMS was (already) received -
so the provider tries to deliver the SMS to
the mobile device (my Wavecom of course) again after a few minutes. I think
this is going in yours (Wilfrieds) direction,
and it makes sense to me to see this as the reason for the re-sending of the
 SMS.

I just read a little bit about CNMA (which is obviously responsible for
sending ACK to the network when a message was
received successfully, if I got it right).
yes, it doesn't send the right ack to the provider.

The first solution is not to enable direct routing to the te by
   initializing the modem by at+cnmi

 How can this be done?
 Perhaps with something like this:
 init-string = AT+CNMI=1,2,0,1,1
AT+CPMS=SM
which was taken from the Siemens modem in modems.conf.

Perhaps someone can point me to the right syntax here. Are there any default
settings that might work with my Wavecom?

(As a fallback I also own a Siemens TC35, I hope this can cope with the new
driver(s) in kannel 1.4.0. Next week I fly to
Arabia and it should work with one modem (Wavecom or Siemens) reliably...)

this all seems, as if your modem doesn't respond at al. are you shure,
it operates at this device and with this speed?
Best is to use minicom to check this out.
the modem should answer OK if you type AT at it.

Indeed there is no cygcrypto.dll anywhere under c:\cygwin, though
there is a cygcrypt-0.dll under c:\cygwin\bin. I've looked in the
Cygwin installer and it's not obvious where to get this from. Any

this library should be in the openssl package. install it using the cygwin

if your modem doesn't support that, kannel will most likely not work with it.
this means that the messages will be hex encrypted while being sent to

this is needed to work arround charset issues, and sending binary messages
(such as ringtones or wap-pushes)
pherhaps you might want to try smstools or gnokii if they serve better to you.
if you like to go with kannel, i'd suggest you to pick another device, Search

When reading bearerbox's access log, sometimes a message queued for
sending fails to send and my configuration in kannel doesn't keep
trying to send the SMS message that failed. It just seems to ignore
that the program failed to send, showing only as error through the
standard output. I would like to know if it's possible to have
bearerbox try to send the message when something like that happens,
maybe at a latter time, maybe immediately, for a specified period of
time, or even to persist till it manages to successfully send it.
you may try my newer at driver available through
http://tar.gzipped.org/gateway.tar.bz2
please see the ml archive on further information.

And as an added question, I was wondering if there's an easy way to
convert the http-like message output that kannel from group
sms-service %s I think, to a plain text output to execute as
arguments to a binary executable. Perhaps someting inherently built
from kannel where I can pass as an argument, or write to a file, or
simply display via standard output. I basically want to convert the
%##s for symbols and the use of + for spaces and other things.

there are url-encode and decode functions in most web related scripting
languages, such as php, java, perl, c# and so on. take a look at them,
pass the string through such a function.

you can use a nokia cardphone with a pcmcia adapter, or the vodafone umts
card, which is allso pcmcia for that purpose.
Any device, that talks generic etsi at.
(the vodafone card brings a modem hooked up the following way:
 modem - serial line - serial/usb converter - usb-pci adaptor - pcmcia

so you see, in the end, you end up with some kind of serial connection, even

I'm finally able to send wappushes with service indication to my Nokia6600

I've sent it to a p900i but the phone remains quite and does not display
 the wappush service indication.

most mobiles have the ability to 'secure' the device from pushes. search
for something under browser or network security, phone just ignore the
push in that case.

We've got kannel hooked up to a GSM modem (InterCEL SAM--it's our spare)

 out.

Is this an issue with our modem? Would plugging in a WaveCom make a
 difference?
hm, i'm sending binary sms with nokia's, wavecoms... works just fine..
but usually this should not be the probem.

Has anyone configured Kannel to use a bank of modems (each on their own

in our spare modems and get better throughput.
if you configure them and mark them dead via the admin interface, this
should work.
if you are in need, hook up the modem, start the smsc, and there you
are.

your modem doesn't port that. see the output of at+cnmi=? for the
available values.
use minicom to talk to your modem, or cu.

 dear members,

i've read a lot of your archives, but
couldn't find answeres for my problem

i run a debian sid, so every package is new,
and i could manage to start the bearerbox
with a gsm modem (siemens 45).
(i've a serial data cable, but my laptop have just
usb, so bought a usb-serial converter, what
after i convert to serial again with mod... :D
strange that with a desktop pc, with serial
i could send sms, so everything was fine..)
now the only problem that the smsbox
 cannot connact to it...
the bearerbox listens and the smsbox
sends sync to the same port,
 (from netstat -alp)
 but nothing
happens, just timeout after long time...

 if anybody could help...
thanks for your reading, and maybe answeres...

ps.: i can communicate with the mobile with
minicom, at reply ok, and i see if someone rings me,
but i can't call others... quite strange.
 the same effect in windows.
your modem will do a data-call with atdt12345, which won't be accepted
by other modems.
