Re: Browsing SMB network????

2010-01-24 Thread Allann Jones
The link was only to show in your mode, I use it too sometimes, and a
quick explanation about about nmb... I give your ace of spades...
But I only expose what was needed for me to view the entire Windows
network on Nautilus without sniffing for shares.

Regards.

Shouldn't that be classified as a bug with presto/deltarpm?

Don't do it if you need to print web pages. There's an unfixed bug in
the rawhide which causes firefox to crash whenever you try to print a
web page.

Hallo Group Members

after Yesterdays system update, I experience X restarts. After
login/password is put to KDM, logging process starts but finally does
not log me in. Instead it reinits to KDM login streen.

/var/log/messages shows that the problem is with /usr/bin/Xorg.

No. It's a kernel packaging bug. See
http://www.codemonkey.org.uk/2009/12/10/annoying-kernel-packaging-bug
and https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=544901.

That indeed is true. However, in the connection information is the ip
address of the AP your connected to.
Then : arp -a ip-address
will give you its MAC address

Critical temperature reached, shutting down

2010-01-24 Thread Steve Malenfant
I have an ECS board which triggers these Critical temperature alarm and them
my system shuts down. This happens only in "yum update" but doesn't on video
playback for hours.

Jan 14 14:06:19 localhost kernel: Critical temperature reached (127 C),
shutting down.
Jan 14 14:06:19 localhost kernel: Critical temperature reached (127 C),
shutting down.

The problem I have is that the CPU temp stays about 40C when this happens
(using sensors) and can't find any temperature that goes higher in the
sensors data.

Seems like a ACPI problem but the kernel log message has no details on which
sensors is at 127 C.

Is there a way to tell the kernel to be a bit more verbose on these?

Thanks.

Actually, mailman 2 makes it straightforward for any list
administrator to customise/improve the appearance of the info page of
their list if they choose to.

For example, see this page:
http://watch.id.au/mailman/listinfo/chat_watch.id.au
The *bottom half* of this page directly addresses the issue raised
earlier, namely it is cleaner and much less confusing (than the
default page) particularly for subscribers who want to access their
list config.

If it's useful to anyone, my html that mailman uses to generate the
lower part of that page can be downloaded from:
http://watch.id.au/share/30day/mailman-watch-chat-listinfo.html

It contains some text specific to the target audience of that
particular list, but that could easily be removed to produce a
template that could readily be adapted to any mailman 2 list.

This html block is simply pasted by the list admin in the mailman
admin menu under "edit public html pages" - "general list info page".
I found much of the default html there to be ugly and unnecessary, and
removed it. For example, the password prompts are unnecessary, because
a default password is auto generated and emailed. Also, the admins can
access the subscribers list via the admin page so there is no need to
clutter this page with it. The radio buttons are available on the
config page.

The above two URLs content difference is due to the "info" field which
must be specified as plaintext elsewhere by the list admin, and the
footer and other mailman macros.

Sure. Though to be honest, I don't see it as a big problem.

(As far as packaging, I mostly meant that it's not something we should
be changing in our packages as it would be a decent deviation from
upstream, something user-visible too, unlike changes to the default
binary paths that are only visible to site-admins.)

Thanks for the templates though. Removing the "visit subscriber list"
might help make the "To unsubscribe from users, get a password
reminder, or change your subscription options" text below it more
obvious. I'm not sure if any of the other list admins use that or
not, but that view of the subscriber list isn't available via the main
admin pages.

In years past, I sent a patch¹ upstream to add such a link to the
default admin pages, but it wasn't picked up. I know it's been
discussed on the mailman-users list a few times.

At last, I managed to make it work.
Contrary to my previous belief,
I had not managed to right click on the task bar.
Apparently I'd always picked a spot covered by something else.
Somehow I produced a blank space on
the task bar and right clicked there.

(very very new). Does Fedora 12 come with one? In Windows i used to write
programs using borlands dos console compiler and Dev-C++. It would great to
get a recommendation for a good one in Linux and how to install it.

I use yum to get version info when I can't get it otherwise.

yum info xorg*

will print out all xorg modules and their versions. I think you probably are
looking for the xorg-x11-server-common version.

You need the gcc package:

[r...@pici ~]# yum info gcc
Available Packages
Name : gcc
Arch : i686
Version: 4.4.2
Release: 20.fc12
Size : 8.1 M
Repo : updates
Summary: Various compilers (C, C++, Objective-C, Java, ...)
URL: http://gcc.gnu.org
License: GPLv3+ and GPLv3+ with exceptions and GPLv2+ with exceptions
Description: The gcc package contains the GNU Compiler Collection version 4.4.
: You'll need this package in order to compile C code.

To install it, say
yum install gcc
as root.

Note that this is exactly what you asked for, a C++ compiler. If
actually want a development environment there are several, e.g. Kdevelop
under KDE.

Yeah, thats why any 3rd party that says that is unclear...
ask them what the real requirement is? Is it a x server version?
Development packages? what?

Type "info g++" at a console window. Take the time to learn how to use
"info" as you'll find it useful, especially for Gnu software.

how to setup repro to load 32 bit version of firefox

2010-01-24 Thread Ralph Blach

I need to load the 32 bit version on firefox on my x86_64 machine.

This is because I need to use the cisco tool webex and it downloads a 32 bit
linux dll, and this will not run on a
x86_64 bit machine.

How would the run repro be setup.

Any assistance would be appreciatedl

Thanks

Right.

No, but I do now. Thanks, Ed!

I further notice that the behavior is somewhat different depending on
whether I"m using wireless or wired network. via wired, i have no trouble
connecting to windows shares, but wireless it's a bit more stubborn. I
think I need to go review wireless router settings, perhaps it has applied
someo restrictions on wirless access to network shares.

Thanks again, Ed!

Ok, I admit it . I am missing the point. My bad.

First of all I have no wlan0 on my machine. The OP wanted the MAC for
the AP. This gives him that. He also wanted the MAC address for other
APs with the same SSID. That he does not get using my approach.

And in future you might wish for more than just a c++ compiler. The easiest
way to install all the "stuff" related to software development is to do a

yum groupinstall "Development Tools"

Hi Matt,

You missed(/ignored?) part of the command that Peter gave you. The
complete command is:

g++ -o executable program.cc

You use the -o option to tell it what to call the program file.
Otherwise, you get a file "a.out", as you discovered. You could of
course always rename the a.out file to what ever you like. Best of luck!

What do you mean by "locked"? It should be an executable file.

Type this to run it:

./a.out

If you want an executable file named something other than a.out, either
rename it after the compiler creates it, or use the -o option that Peter
Langfelder pointed out to you (and that you quoted back in your reply).

> where do i go from here?

Anywhere you wish to. Your compiler is apparently working and creating
an executable file. What do you want to do next?

The "-o" option gives the name to the executable that is generated. If you
omit it, the executable will get the default name, "a.out". To execute it,
type

./a.out

Note the dot-slash notation before the filename --- it forces bash to execute
the a.out command residing in the current directory. Otherwise bash will look
for a.out in your default $PATH and typically won't be able to find any a.out
executable.

HTH, :-)

It might not be. Do you mean by this that Windows users experience the
same problem?

I first asked here and only Ed Greshko answered but he had no
solution. I didn't have a single answer on the NVIDIA forums. So, yes,
it's a rant.

I sent the NVIDIA bug report, but the Fedora list system doesn't
accept it because it's too long, I suppose. It doesn't appear here:

http://lists.fedoraproject.org/pipermail/users/2010-January/thread.html#start

So, here are error messages when I start nvidia-settings:

No idea. OEM package.

I checked Asus for my Twinview problem and there was only one message
relating to Twinview and it had to do with DVI-D:

ASUSTeK Computer Inc.-Forum- DVI-D doesn't work
DVI-D works for me on my Sony Wega HDTV, with and without TwinView.
Windows XP with VGA as primary CRT, DVI as secondary DFP. ...
vip.asus.com/forum/view.aspx?SLanguage=en-us... - Cached

I don't believe I'll fidn much on Asus' site. It's apparently not the
forum where people go when they have problems.

I wonder how much Asus modifies the card and if it's not only
relabeling for tax purposes.

Nope.
I'd imagine that it's a broken xorg.conf configuration.

Your xorg.conf looks far too complex in my view. (You didn't post which
nVidia binary driver version are you using?)
It seems to be mixing xinerama and TwinView.
Plus, you have multiple concurrent configurations in the device and
monitor sections that more-or-less contradict each other...

Here's a copy of a work TwinView configuration from one of my
workstations. (22" LCD on DVI, 17" LCD on VGA)
Try using it as a reference (Its most likely full of garbage... I've
been dragging this xorg.conf since ~F5 [with minor modifications]...)
Notice that the MetaModes are disabled - as at least in my case,
TwinView seems to be configuring the displays more-or-less out of the
box.

You're missing the output filename:

$ gcc source_filename.cc -o output_filename

Where output_filename is name of the resulting executable. (Equivalent
to .exe file in Windows/DOS)

If you want to execute the resulting executable, type:
$ ./output_filename

If you want to be able to debug the resulting executable, try:
(Quick and dirty solution)

First, install DDD (simple but effective debugger):
$ su -c 'yum install ddd'

Compile the file with debug information.
$ gcc source_filename.cc -ggdb3 -o output_filename

Start the debugger.
$ ddd ./output_filename

Ach, did not think of goggle. That sounds about right, the package that
calls for it has it's last version as F 11. Guess I will have to roll
back to keep the Boss happy!

No way I will be able to convince him to wait for the new version.

If it is a discrete card, can you remove it and really check? I've had
Asus cards and the number was embossed on the card. If it is embedded
on the motherboard then what is the model number of the motherboard.

What is the output of "lspci -v"?

You said that you got it working by putting some settings in the
Device instead of the screen section but the documentation is adamant
Sreen Or Device is the same. That's not the problem. I left it where
nvidia-settings puts it. If NVIDIA is wrong and they provide no
support, they'll feel the shit hit the fan.

Maybe you should try to realize your tour de force once more if it's
so little problem to you. I mean no getting some kind of something on
the TV,

5x4 background images not streched on the TV, but 4x3 stretched,

mplayer not quite filling the screen

and so on.

I mean something that looks clean and not as a quick hack.

I use NVIDIA proprietary drivers and nvidia-settings to set up
xorg.conf. The community doesn't have the code and I cannot ask the
community to fix teh problem. It's for NVIDIA to fix the problem. If
Asus fucked things up, NVIDIA shouldn't license them to use their
hardware. I won't run around between the two.

Nvidia CEO, Jen-Hsun Huang, makes his publicity for being very helpful:

"And it was there that he first showed signs of leadership. Sharing
quarters with an illiterate 17-year-old covered in tattoos and knife
scars, Huang taught his roommate how to read."

http://www.wired.com/wired/archive/10.07/Nvidia.html

I don't find the guy helpful at all, offering no support whatsoever.

What concerned sound has been reposted to the sound thread. You missed nothing.

What broke my xorg.conf?  nvidia-settings. Do you believe nvsvc32.exe
breaks Windows settings? Possible.

You know what? The first message I posted on NVIDIA forums was a rant.
It's not that I'm just fed up with them giving no support at all. So,
I thank you very much for your advice.

> Hope it helps,

It doesn't. I won't try the billion combinations possible between your
file and mine. If you know how to get a clean set up -- not something
that looks like a quick hack, like I was telling Ed -- from the xorg
file nvidia-settings has created, please tell me. Otherwise, I've been
through enough: Why don't you try this and that.

At minimum wage, I've spent more then 10 times the price of the card
to try to get it working. This is not normal. If you have a precise
solution, I'll try it. But there are too many people on the net losing
way too much time trying to get NVIDIA cards working, either with
Linux or Windows. When you offer a product, you must provide support.

NVIDIA's attitude is unacceptable.

Re: need howto for SELinux config--ssh on non-standard port

John

ausearch -m avc -ts today

Should show you all of the AVC messages that you received today. If you are
using auditing.

ausearch -m avc

Will show you all avc's that your system has logged

ausearch -m avc | audit2allow

Will give you the audit rules.

If you have been in permissive mode for a while, the log messages might have
disappeared.

setenforce 1
setenforce 0

Will cause avc messages to show up again.

The root of the problem seems to be that there are no AVC messages. All
of our previous discussion has centered around creating a new policy for
them so it appears I need a different fix?

I'm attaching my sshd config file if you want to try this out. As the
config file shows, I'm using a preshared public key and password use is
disabled as is root login. Run it by:

If I disable selinux with setenforce 0, login works fine.

Security and bug maintenance ending next summer is not good enough
reason for upgrading? Of course you still have a few months of support
in F11 available, but eventually you will probably need to upgrade it.
Fedora is not very good a distro for long term use unless you have the
upgrades planned into your usage.
