Re: Upgrade FC 16 to FC 17 problems
Hi, I have the following message "The root for the previously installed system was not found". Due to space issues I have made a few links into a larger partition, these were /tmp and /var/lib/yum/plugins/local. I changed /tmp to be in the root file system and made the link to local a link "../../../../export/home/var-lib-yum-plugins-local/". Now I get the above message. Can anyone suggest what I should do now please? XFCE Weather app can't find me - FC18
I think I have the extra apps loaded for xfce, but the weather app searching for something near Schenectady NY just says "Searching" and does nothing visible. FC17 found a station on Libarty St, three blocks from me, which updates frequently. What did I forget to install? Since I have never been able to get it to add either fc17 (separate boot and root) or XP in a partition, I couldn't investigate what it was changing, but it does get rebuilt, which is what I based my statement on, I actually looked. If having it change doesn't meet you criteria from being rebuilt I think that's splitting hairs. If someone could tell me how to get it to boot any of the preinstalled OS on the drive, I could do better testing. Better yet I could upgrade and move on. until now after kernel updates grubby is adding the new one to grub config and taking any chnage you made in the previous one to the new entry only "grub2-mkconfig" is creating a complete new config with all this submenu crap and so on for kernel params "/etc/default/grub" is your friend here I am not a guru on grub2, when I did this with fc16 along with fc14, both appeared, I was asked (my notes don't say if it was a question or menu) if I wanted to boot fc14. That was good, the current "ignore the other stuff" doesn't seem like an optimal install interface, Fedora users tend to be technical, but having to hack grub2 is a hard learning curve. On Sat, 26 Jan 2013, Jeff Lake wrote: They probably have been packaged as RPM's yet if that is the case, You will need to compile from source Sorry, but that isn't what the message says. They have been packaged into RPMs and placed into a testing repository. The question is which testing repository, since a standard yum command can't retrieve these RPMs. This is particularly frustrating, since F18 was released with Postgresql 9.2.x, and PostGIS 1.5.x, the latter not being able to function with the former. If you had data and projects running on F17 on Postgresql 9.1.x and PostGIS 1.5.x, and accepted a default upgrade from F17 to F18, you would be seriously stuck. As it is, I have three machines, only one of which that I've migrated to F18 from F17. So, I'm not that stuck. But I would like to know where the testing RPMs are so that my data and projects are current across the three machines. When it is at the top is everything working correctly? My system is a desktop and I have no issues. I'm using, forced to use, the nVidia drivers since my GT240 card isn't supported by nouveau. > > New strange thing: I have just plugged my camcorder and obtained the > following message in a popup window: > "KDE a détecté qu'un ou plusieurs périphériques internes ont été enlevés. > Voulez-vous que KDE oublie ces périphériques de façon permanente ? > Voici la liste des périphériques que KDE pense être enlevés : > Sortie : HDA Intel PCH, ALC892 Analog (Default Audio Device)" > which I can try to translate like this: > "KDE detected that one or more internal devices have been removed. > Would you like that KDE forgets those devices for ever? > Here is the list of devices that KDE thinks are removed: > Output : HDA Intel PCH, ALC892 Analog (Default Audio Device)" > I get something like that from time to time. Don't know what triggers it and forgetting the devices has never caused my issues. New strange thing: I have just plugged my camcorder and obtained the following message in a popup window: "KDE a détecté qu'un ou plusieurs périphériques internes ont été enlevés. Voulez-vous que KDE oublie ces périphériques de façon permanente ? Voici la liste des périphériques que KDE pense être enlevés : Sortie : HDA Intel PCH, ALC892 Analog (Default Audio Device)" which I can try to translate like this: "KDE detected that one or more internal devices have been removed. Would you like that KDE forgets those devices for ever? Here is the list of devices that KDE thinks are removed: Output : HDA Intel PCH, ALC892 Analog (Default Audio Device)" Frédéric -- users mailing list users@lists.fedoraproject.org To unsubscribe or change subscription options: https://admin.fedoraproject.org/mailman/listinfo/users Guidelines: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Mailing_list_guidelines Have a question? In KDE, if you bring up "System Settings" and then go to "Multimedia-->Phonon" and then look at all the various "Audio Playback" categories you should see a number of entries. HDMI should be down in the list to give it less preferential treatment. -- Programming today is a race between software engineers striving to build bigger and better idiot-proof programs, and the Universe trying to produce bigger and better idiots.
